I like this one. Teasing the new thrillers coming in 2013.

Same as the one at the top of the post, but adjusted for Facebook (profile pic)

This one didn't come out like I'd hoped so I scrapped it.

Next on Earth Station One...

Next week, the Earth Station One crew straps on Riker’s Beard and Jumps The Shark. That’s right, ESO is looking at those TV show that Jumped The Shark and started off great, but then made a left turn that sent viewers running to change the channel. And just like the Geek Seat, we’re looking at the flip side of the coin as well and discuss shows that have grown Riker’s Beard and started off slowly, but improved in a later season. It’s sure to be a fantastic discussion and we’ll have some special guests join us in the conversation.

Shout Out #2

CATCHING A KILLER!

It's blurry, but it's me standing behind Kevin Bacon.
Bobby as Agent Edwards
I hope everyone caught my brief, but blurry moment on FOX's The Following last night. No worries, if you missed it, FOX is re-airing the pilot on Friday, January 25th. Plus, I'm posting the photos here. I also saw my car in the parking lot of the command center, which was cool. Plus, I was on set for many of the scenes in the pilot, even if you don't see me.

Created and written by Kevin Williamson (Scream, The Vampire Diaries), The Following stars Kevin Bacon (he of 6 degrees of... fame) in his first starring role in a TV series, along with James Purefoy as serial killer/cult leader, Joe Carroll (Rome). Also part of the cast are Natalie Zea (Justified), Jeananne Goossen (Alcatraz), and Billy Brown (Sons of Anarchy), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), and Maggie Grace (Taken).

In The Following, I played FBI Special Agent Robert Edwards (I got to come up with my characters name for the FBI badge and ID. I'm pretty sure I'll have him show up  in one of the Harold Palmer thriller novels down the road. Not sure if there's space for him in Evil Intent as it's well into its story, but you never know. Characters have a strange way of showing up where we least expect them. Just ask Sheriff Tom Myers, who appears in three novels I've written (one, the aforementioned Evil Intent, is still in process) and I've got an idea for a solo story for him as well. Not bad for a character that, when originally created, was never going to be used more than once. The mark of a good character, when he won't let you forget him.

Meanwhile, I'm into day two of my new day job. I feel very lucky to work with some very friendly people and so far so good. Still a bit to learn and took the plant tour today, which was nice. The company bottles perfumes and aerosol products so I spend my days talking about perfume, which is a new experience for me.

And here's my desk, which I'm getting set up.

Well, it's been a long day and I'm beat. Going to catch up with some TV shows on the DVR and veg.

Later.

Bobby

TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT. ARE YOU READY FOR THE FOLLOWING?

Bobby Nash as Special Agent Robert Edwards on The Following
I am very excited for the premiere of The Following starring Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy on FOX tonight. I was on set for three days playing an FBI Agent and got hooked on the story so I'm excited to see how it plays out.

The photo above is me as FBI Special Agent Robert Edwards (a character I created and named so he might just show up in one of the Harold Palmer novels) backstage of the command center set.

THE THREE P’S OF PRIVATE EYE PULP?

Spent the past couple hours writing P.I.s, prostitutes, and pulp. Made a nice dent in my story for upcoming The Ruby Files Vol. 2 anthology. Here’s a taste of the first draft (I just typed this so it's still a rough draft):

Art: Rob Moran
Reardon stopped at the front door, a hand resting on the knob. He turned back to face her. “Look, all joking aside, you be careful tomorrow.” He stepped out the open door and into the night.

“I will, mom,” she said before closing the door. “Scout’s honor.”

Once he was gone, Lacy let her forehead rest against the locked door. He was good at his job, but Agent Reardon had a habit of annoying her. She blew out a breath, but felt anything but relaxed. She was too exhausted to feel much of anything. She turned off the lights and made her way to her comfortable bed where she collapsed into it without even bothering to take off the degrading costume her cover required her to wear.

She was asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

Rick Ruby watched the man leave Raven’s apartment.

And that’s all for now. Just a taste.

What is The Ruby Files, you ask?

Created by authors Bobby Nash and Sean Taylor, the Ruby Files is a pulpy P.I. anthology featuring Rick Ruby and published by Airship 27 Productions. You can learn more about The Ruby Files Vol. 1 at http://rickruby.blogspot.com.

Look for The Ruby Files Vol. 2 coming soon.

NEEDLESS THINGS!

The Phantom Troublemaker
I was honored to participate in a discussion on comic books and graphic novels over at the Needless Things blog, hosted by my friend, and Earth Station Who co-host, The Phantom Troublemaker.

You can read "They're Comic Books, You Twat!" here.

So, what do you call them? Are the comic books, comics, pamphlets, funny books, graphic novels, books, or perhaps another term I've not heard yet. I'd love to hear from you.

Bobby

CH-CH-CH-CHANGES!!!

Writing all day is great, but the pay has been lousy so I'm heading back to corporate life. I start my new day job on Monday morning so I'll be posting less and writing nights and weekends. I'm looking forward to this new adventure.

What does that mean in terms of my posts here and my writing?

Not much.

I still plan to post news, information, and my assorted musings here fairly regularly. My writing output will slow down, but will continue. The largest impact will be to my postings at All Pulp, Earth Station One, and my various social media sites, although those are easier to post short messages from a mobile device.

I'm excited to start the new job and to continue telling stories. Speaking of which, I'd better get back to work on my Ruby Files story before my editor sends one of his boys around to kneecap me.  :)

Have a great weekend.

Bobby

RICK RUBY-- BACK ON THE CASE!

Working on my story for the upcoming The Ruby Files Vol. 2 today. Still in the early stages of the story, but here’s a taste. FYI. This is the raw first pass with no edits as yet so it could change.

-----
The manager didn’t want details. He just wanted whatever tomfoolery was going on to stop. He had actually used the word “tomfoolery,” which had made Rick laugh, although he quickly covered it when he realized that the man wasn’t kidding.

He had instructed Rick to “get the goods” and “shut them down” by any means necessary without disrupting the hotel’s clientele. Keeping things quiet was important. That was why he had come to The Ruby Agency instead of the police.

Coming 2013
The Ruby Files Vol. 2
Featuring stories by Sean Taylor, Ron Fortier, Alan J. Porter, and Bobby Nash.
Illustrations by Nik Poliwko
Look for a Cover Artist announcement soon.

MARRYING PLOT AND CHARACTER

I know pronounce you Plot and Character.

Bobby Nash joins several creators in this week’s roundtable writer’s discussion on Seean Taylor’s Bad Girls, Good Guys, and Two-Fisted Action Blog.

From Marrying Plot and Character:
Do you, Plot, take Character to be your lawfully wedded concept? We've long held that a story is that baby produced when plot and character get together and raise a family.

Think of all the great stories you remember vividly. Now think about why you remember them so well. Chances are it's because the characters and the plots are a perfect mess of (overused word alert) synergy, or as we like to think of it, a marriage.

But how does one make that marriage work? We went to a few of our favorite creators to find out.

You can read the full roundtable discussion here.
