NEEDLESS THINGS PODCAST 170 – MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE NEEDLESS COMMENTARY

Who will possess the Power of Greyskull?

I was thrilled to join Phantom Troublemaker and his Needless Things Irregulars (Beau Brown, Arian Gulick, and Ryan Cadaver) in the Phantom Zone for this episode as we re-watch and discuss 1987's Masters of the Universe movie. Does it hold up? Is it better than we remember? How awesome is Frank Langella as Skeletor? Is that Star Trek Voyager's Tom Paris Living In A Box? All these questions and more are answered in this thrilling episode of the Needless Things podcast. Good journey.

THE WRAP UP! TIMEGATE GOES OUT ON A HIGH NOTE!

My Timegate 2016 author table!
Timegate 2016 program book
Last weekend I was a guest at Timegate 2016! I've been a guest at TimeGate a number of times in the past and I always have a great time. Timegate is a small show compared to beasts like DragonCon and San Diego Comicon, but that's a big part of its charm. It's a relaxicon where you can sit back and enjoy spending time with fans and guests alike. Little did I know that this year's con would be the final TimeGate. Yes. As with all good things, this too has come to an end, but this is science fiction so nothing stays gone forever.

Next year, TimeGate regenerates (see what I did there?) into WHOLANTA!

TimeGate (and next year, WHOLANTA) is an annual Doctor Who
WHOLANTA begins 2017!
and British media and culture convention in Atlanta, GA. Attendees come from all over the Southeast, all over the nation and even from as far away as England to take part in the festivities. Launched in 2005, the convention hits its 10 year anniversary in 2015 with special guest Katy Manning and Michelle Gomez. Past Doctor Who guests have included actors Colin Baker, Sophie Aldred, Mary Tamm, John Levene, Colin Spaull and Caitlin Blackwood, script editors Terrance Dicks and Andrew Cartmel, composer Dominic Glynn, film editor Louis Robinson, and more.

Ma and my...
TAAA-AAR-RDIS!
For 2016, we celebrated 20 years of the 8th Doctor with special guest, the 8th Doctor himself, Paul McGann. I was fortunate to meet Mr. McGann, who was easily accessible and such a nice guy. A great guest. I'm kicking myself for not grabbing a photo with him. I also got to spend time with some amazing guests like Louise Robinson (one of the nicest people you'll ever meet) Nicholas Briggs, Terry Malloy, Jason Haigh-Ellery from Big Finish, my pals from the ESO Network, who were out in full force-- Mike Faber, Mike Gordon, Jennifer Hartshorn, Judy Faber, William Faber, Dr. Scott Viguie, Debbie Viguie, Jason De La Torre, Rita De La Torre, and quite a few friends of the station. Also on hand were artist Dimitri Walker, authors Jonathan French, A.R. Cook, and Lee Martindale, Monsterama's Anthony Taylor, Lt. Moxie Magnus, and more.

I had a table set up with my books, including the new Sherlock Holmes/Domino Lady trade collection, which was my biggest seller of the weekend. I also did 3 panels and Gallifrey Game Night, which was more laughs than I ever thought it would be.

I'd also like to say special thanks to Rebecca Perry for helping me with my table during the con while I ran off to do panels. Much appreciated.

I will have a table set up with my books, including the new Sherlock Holmes/Domino Lady trade collection, a good fit for this convention, I think. I'll also be going panels throughout the weekend.

TIMEGATE 2016 PANEL SCHEDULE RELEASED!

The panel schedule is live!
Ready to start planning your TimeGate weekend?

The only way to travel.
Well, now you can!

The TimeGate 2016 Programming Schedule is here! This is a full list of everything we have planned for you for this year's convention. Keep in mind that there may still be an edit or two over the coming week, as we finalize panelists and make final tweaks (there are a couple of panelist conflicts we have to resolve). Once the schedule is completely finished, the app will be loaded with all the event information and released. You'll be hearing more about some exciting changes with the app very soon. For now, though, you can consider the schedule to be about 95% complete. (Like battle, no con schedule survives contact with the enemy. Ha!)

You can find the full Google Doc schedule here on on Timegate's website.

Here's my panel schedule for TimeGate 2016.

My 2015 TimeGate table

I will also have a table at the convention where I will have books for sale or if you just want to stop by and say hello or chat.

If you're there Saturday night, please come out to Gallifrey Game Night. I have no idea what I'm in for so I can use all the cheering, friendly faces I can get. I'm a little nervous.

See you there.

And just like the Geek Seat, we’re looking at the flip side of the coin as well and discuss shows that have grown Riker’s Beard and started off slowly, but improved in a later season. It’s sure to be a fantastic discussion and we’ll have some special guests join us in the conversation.

Earth Station One Episode 122: Blockbuster – The Summer Movies of 1982

Mike, Mike, Bobby, and guests Derrick Ferguson, Dr. Scott Viguie, and award-winning artist Mark Maddox try to name them all, but one name keeps rising to the top of the list – KHAAAAAAANNNN!!!
