LOOK EVIL IN THE EYE AND NEVER BACK DOWN!

   “What do you think, Harold?”
“I think we should be anywhere but here,” Harold deadpanned.
   “Funny.”
“I think you should get out of here, Carter.”
   “We’ve got a minute.”
Harold pointed to the timer with red numbers counting down. “Fifty-two seconds, actually,” Harold said as he knelt down in front of the bomb. “I don’t think either of us can run that fast anymore.”
   “Can you diffuse it?”
“Diffuse it?” Harold snorted. “Hell, I shouldn’t even touch it. There’s enough C-4 here to level the building, the parking lot, and about a mile stretch of the highway in either direction.”
   “Okay. That’s bad,” Carter said.

That's how EVIL WAYS begins. Things only get more suspenseful from there. Don't believe it? Click Read More to see what reader reviews say:

"This book keeps you wanting to turn the pages as it grips you with suspense and excitement the whole way."

"I didn't want to put the book down."

"A good, taut thriller."

"Bobby Nash delivers an electrifying thriller that never lets up."

EVIL WAYS GETS A NEW COVER FOR ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY!

Old cover design.
My novel, EVIL WAYS has a new cover and I couldn't be happier to share the news. The new cover is now available on the paperback edition of the novel. A new hardcover edition of Evil Ways will be available this month. While there is nothing wrong with the old cover, which I do like quite a bit, I felt that it needed a cover that really screamed "NOVEL" and sometimes I think the red cover didn't do that as well as I would like. The new cover is in effect now at the BEN Books store and will roll out to Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and all other retailers this week.

A big thank you to award-winning artist Mark Maddox for helping me with the cover graphic for this new and improved cover. We’re already hard at work on ideas for the EVIL INTENT cover. Stay tuned.

WHOSE EVIL WAYS WAS IT AGAIN?

Maybe Coca Cola was on to something, eh? :)

The original cover
People are going gaga over these Coke's with their names on them. Maybe I should just start putting random names on the covers of my BEN Books novels. Think that would convince people buy them? I don't know.

AN EVIL INTENT EXCERPT...

Author Jeremy Hicks tagged me in a status and now i have to post 7 lines after the 7th line on page 7 from my current work in progress "Evil Intent" Okay, I'll play. Here's mine:

The brave men and women Donnie Lehmann had fought shoulder to shoulder with in the hot desert sands of countries that he wished he couldn’t find on a map had died for freedom and liberty and here they were just handing it away to evil men with evil agendas. Donnie Lehmann saw all of it happening and wanted to help. He loved his country and wanted to keep it safe.

There was a quote he had learned once. “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” He couldn’t remember who had said it, especially in his current state, but the words rang true.

Donnie Lehmann saw the evil happening to the country he loved.

And he would do something about it.

###

And the rules that got us here:

Go to page 7 or 77 in your current WIP.
Go to line 7
Post on your facebook page/blog the next 7 sentences or 7 lines—as they are!
Tag 7 people to do the same.

This was a fun little experiment.
I hope you enjoyed the excerpt.

Of course, I can't let you get out of here without reminding you that Evil Ways is still on sale. Get yours today!

THE FOLLOWING PILOT ONE OF 2013'S BEST EPISODES...

Bobby as Agent Edwards
I found out today that FOX's The Following's Pilot is one of Give Me My Remote's Top 13 TV Episodes of 2013! This was a fun pilot to work on. I played an FBI Agent in this one.

You can read the full article here.

CATCHING A KILLER!

It's blurry, but it's me standing behind Kevin Bacon.
Bobby as Agent Edwards
I hope everyone caught my brief, but blurry moment on FOX's The Following last night. No worries, if you missed it, FOX is re-airing the pilot on Friday, January 25th. Plus, I'm posting the photos here. I also saw my car in the parking lot of the command center, which was cool. Plus, I was on set for many of the scenes in the pilot, even if you don't see me.

Created and written by Kevin Williamson (Scream, The Vampire Diaries), The Following stars Kevin Bacon (he of 6 degrees of... fame) in his first starring role in a TV series, along with James Purefoy as serial killer/cult leader, Joe Carroll (Rome). Also part of the cast are Natalie Zea (Justified), Jeananne Goossen (Alcatraz), and Billy Brown (Sons of Anarchy), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), and Maggie Grace (Taken).

In The Following, I played FBI Special Agent Robert Edwards (I got to come up with my characters name for the FBI badge and ID. I'm pretty sure I'll have him show up  in one of the Harold Palmer thriller novels down the road. Not sure if there's space for him in Evil Intent as it's well into its story, but you never know. Characters have a strange way of showing up where we least expect them. Just ask Sheriff Tom Myers, who appears in three novels I've written (one, the aforementioned Evil Intent, is still in process) and I've got an idea for a solo story for him as well. Not bad for a character that, when originally created, was never going to be used more than once. The mark of a good character, when he won't let you forget him.

Meanwhile, I'm into day two of my new day job. I feel very lucky to work with some very friendly people and so far so good. Still a bit to learn and took the plant tour today, which was nice. The company bottles perfumes and aerosol products so I spend my days talking about perfume, which is a new experience for me.

And here's my desk, which I'm getting set up.

Well, it's been a long day and I'm beat. Going to catch up with some TV shows on the DVR and veg.

Later.

TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT. ARE YOU READY FOR THE FOLLOWING?

Bobby Nash as Special Agent Robert Edwards on The Following
I am very excited for the premiere of The Following starring Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy on FOX tonight. I was on set for three days playing an FBI Agent and got hooked on the story so I'm excited to see how it plays out.

The photo above is me as FBI Special Agent Robert Edwards (a character I created and named so he might just show up in one of the Harold Palmer novels) backstage of the command center set.

OBSESSED?

I was actually there when they filmed the scene the attached photo is from. I'm sitting at a desk on the other side of the door (just out of sight, naturally). I was on set for three days playing an FBI Agent and got hooked on the story so I'm excited to see how it plays out.

WITH EVIL INTENT--

Despite a day filled with interruptions, I managed to add a little over 2,500 words to my Evil Intent novel, which is pretty cool. I plan to add another good chuck tomorrow.

Here's a sneak peek from the novel. Bear in mind that this is a first draft and could very well change before going to print.

###

Harold Palmer was tired.

The handful of Advil he’d taken had helped with the pounding in his head, but hadn’t completely knocked it out, which was to be expected. He’d taken a blow to the head less than a day earlier and was still reeling from that, then coupling it with very little sleep and he was surprised he was still able to stay upright, much less function.

Apparently, Carter noticed this as well. “Why don’t you go home and get some rest,” he told Harold. “I’ll call you as soon as I find out anything.”

“I’ll be okay,” Harold said, although neither of them really believed it. “Just didn’t get a lot of sleep last night.”

“Yeah, right,” Carter said.

Before he could offer a retort, Harold’s cell phone rang, his ring tone a generic funky tune that Beverly said always reminded her of a cheesy 70’s movie. He slipped the phone from its perch and saw that the call was from Ray. Normally, when he was at a crime scene, he would ignore a call from his brother and let it go to voicemail, but he didn’t feel like listening to a lecture from Carter so he answered it. “Not a great time, Ray,” he said softly. “Can I call you back?”

“Actually, I think this might be important, Harold” Franklin Ray Palmer’s voice said through the speaker.

That got his attention. Ray never called him Harold, especially if it was a private conversation. “Is something wrong?” Harold asked.

“Yeah,” Franklin said. “I’m flying solo here today. Myers and Dooley aren’t here and I really could use them.”

Harold snapped his fingers, which grabbed Carter’s attention.

Carter mouthed What’s going on?

“What’s going on, Ray?” Harold asked, making sure Carter could hear. He did and motioned for everyone in the cramped apartment to stop what they were doing and quiet down.

“Who’s there with you?”

“I’ve got an Agent Rogers from the ATF here in my office. He said he needed to get in touch with you.”

“Rogers? Brian Rogers?”

Suddenly, everyone in the room was listening to the conversation.

“Brian Rogers?” he asked, putting emphasis on the first name as he fished a sharpie from his pocket, pulled the cap off with his teeth, then spit it onto the countertop. There was no paper close at hand so he wrote directly on the pressed wood countertop.

“Yeah. That’s him,” Ray said.

Harold scribbled a note on the counter, Lehmann! At my brother’s office! Call Myers! Then he wrote a phone number down, thankful for his good memory.

Carter nodded and pulled out his own phone and dialed the number, walking across the room to talk without being overheard through Harold’s conversation.

“Is he listening in?” Harold asked.

“No,” Ray said calmly. “He’s in my office.”

“Okay. Stay calm.” He took a breath, tried to take his own advice. Panicking would not help Ray get out of this. “Listen. There’s no time to explain, but that’s not Brian Rogers."

###

Writing an action sequence tomorrow. I put the pieces in place today and finished up with gunfire being exchanged. Action is fun to write, but also tricky. You have to come up with interesting ways to explain the action and not repeat those same phrases again and again.

Oh, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Harold Palmer's first thriller, EVIL WAYS is still available in paperback and multiple ebook formats. Just click the NOVELS tab above for all the information.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope to have more excerpts soon.

A DAY IN THE LIFE. OR-- WHAT I’M DOING WHEN YOU SHOULD BE WRITING!

I’ve been doing some non-writing, yet writing related work today. Might be time to switch over and write some fiction though. Plus, we record this week's Earth Station One podcast tonight. We're talking Babylon 5, which is one of my favorites. You’ll be able to hear that later this week.

As I did with Deadly Games! last week, I created some pre-promotion banner ads for the upcoming re-release of my first published novel, Evil Ways. Click for a larger view.

What do you think? Which ones work best for you?

Original Cover
Evil Ways is currently out of print, but there may be some copies of the original print run floating around out there somewhere. While we await the new version, here’s a little about Evil Ways:

Proposed re-release cover
A string of brutal murders.

A small-town sheriff in way over his head.

An FBI agent on the mend, seeking nothing more than to reconnect with his brother.

A reporter on the trail of a killer, something he thought he’d left behind when he left
Atlanta, Georgia for the small town of Sommersville, Georgia.

A town preparing for an annual celebration.

Old friends coming together to celebrate their high school reunion.

FBI Agent Harold Palmer needed a relaxing vacation. All he wanted was to travel to Sommersville, Georgia to visit his brother, newspaper publisher and reporter, Franklin Palmer. He should have known better.

The discovery of a brutally murdered young lady with a connection to the local police, coupled with a rowdy high school reunion and the annual Autumn Festival has Sommersville Sheriff Tom Myers and his deputies overwhelmed.

FBI Agent Harold Palmer, in town on a family matter, finds himself on the trail of a killer who preys on the fears of his victims. His next targets are the unsuspecting members of the reunited class of ’95.

They should fear his EVIL WAYS.

I like the sound of this.
Oh, yeah, I’m also proud to announce that after the re-release of Evil Ways, FBI Agent Harold Palmer will return in 2013 in Evil Intent. Oh yeah. At long last, book two is moving forward. Afterward, I'm already cultivating some ideas for book three.

While you’re out surfing the ‘net, I posted several items over the past weeks at www.esopodcast.com and http://allpulp.blogspot.com. You should swing by and take a peek. There’s been some cool news posted recently.

Well, I’d best get back to work.

We’ll talk later.
