Repost ESO:
Stan Lee is know as the father of the Marvel Universe, but Roy Thomas is the 'kid' who took it to the next level. For over 50 years Roy has been creating characters that are now mainstays of the MCU, then going to work for the direct competition and exploring the golden age heroes of the DC Universe. As always we want to hear from you at earthstationone@esonetwork.com. If you enjoy our show please tell your friends about us. Also, please subscribe, rate and leave feedback wherever fine podcasts are found.

What attracted you to comics?

The question was asked on a Facebook group: What attracted you to comics? What was the appeal and what kept you there?

The '66 Spider-man cartoon used to play in reruns after school when I was a kid in the 70's. I was enamored of the character and eventually convinced my mom to buy me some Spider-man comics (a 3 pack with Amazing Spider-man issues 192, 193, and 194 were my first) and I was hooked. I loved the adventure and the escapism. I'm still looking for adventure and escapism. Spider-man was my gateway to comics and I am ever so grateful.

SOMETHING SKETCHY...

I did a commission recently featuring headshots of The Avengers for the client's sister. He wanted to give it to her for her birthday. Here's the birthday girl, Shounda, with the finished commission. I'm glad she liked it.

Oh, and Chewie was the envelope art.

I am open for commissions. Just shoot me an email if you're interested. Soon, I will have it so commissions can be ordered through my store.

Bobby's Book Review: Hawkeye 'Anchor Points'

Kelly Thompson, Leonardo Romero, and Michael Walsh are an amazing creative team. Great story and art. Hawkeye: Kate Bishop vol. 1 'Anchor Points' from Marvel Comics is an amazing read and a great new direction for West Coast Hawkeye as she becomes a p.i. in a new city. Highly recommended.

Bobby's Book Review: Jessica Jones "Blind Spot"

Book review. I read and enjoyed the new Jessica Jones trade collection titled "Blind Spot" from Marvel. The creative team of Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis gave us a good Jessica Jones story, an intriguing mystery, and some surprises along the way. Most importantly, they did their own thing and did not try to copy the Bendis/Gaydos team who had spearheaded the series since its inception. I give this one 4 Stars.

My one complaint is that the trade ends with "to be continued..." My fear is for those who pick up the next Jessica Jones trade without knowing it's part 2. Nothing on the cover or spine of "Blind Spot" mentions a volume number or anything. That minor quibble does bug me quite a bit, but that doesn't distract from the story.

Now available at your favorite comic book retailer.

DAREDEVIL SEASON 3 REVIEW!

Marvel's Daredevil season 3 was absolutely phenomenal. This is, hands down, my favorite season of all the Marvel Netflix shows based on bits and pieces from 'Born Again' and 'Guardian Devil' among other notable DD stories. Strong writing, engaging cast, and powerhouse performances from Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio. I'm ready to go back and rewatch from season 1. Great stuff. Highly recommended. #Daredevil

Anyone else watch? What are your thoughts?

THE RETURN OF... ENVELOPE ART!

Mailing out some books and commissions this so you know what that means... that's right, it's Envelope Art Time! I love to sketch so these are a lot of fun.

Envelope Art #1: The Joker

Envelope Art #2: The Human Torch
The lady at the Post Office asked if they had ever burned a package before so I had to explain to her who the character is and the joke.

Want some one of a kind envelope art of your own? All you have to do is order some books or a sketch commission direct from me and it's a good bet there will be some scribbles on the envelope.

IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER INSTALLMENT OF BOBBY'S BOX ART!

I worked on a couple of commissions for customers who purchased Bobby's Big Box O' Books or ordered autographed copies of books direct from me.

The first commission has Dave Stevens' The Rocketeer ready to take flight. The gun didn't quite come out right.

The second commission featured my buddy, Randy Bishop's The Hawk of New York from his comic book of the same name..

And since I mailed out some packages of books today so you know what that means... it's time for Bobby's Box Art! Of the 4 pieces I sketched today, I think Spider-Man came out the best. Deadpool is okay. The markers we're a bit too dark on Captain America and The Hulk though. Always a concern when drawing against a brown background. #amdrawing #amwriting #BobbysBigBoxOBooks

These are fun. I enjoy drawing them.

BIRTHDAY BLUES AND REDS...

I had a nice lunch out at Your Pie with my dad and brother. We stopped off for a DQ dessert after. Not a bad birthday even though it's my first without mom here to join us, which bummed me out more than a little bit this morning.

I capped the lunch off by buying myself a present. I picked up Avengers: Infinity War on Blu Ray and plan to enjoy it tonight after I get some writing done.

NEW ART!

I've added a few new commission pieces to the Art folder. I wanted to share them here as well.

Domino Lady ain't taking no gruff today. "BANG!" The title says it all, doesn't it?

On the image below, the customer asked me to do a self portrait so I did a writing play on Rockwell's artist self portrait. The mirror image is the dream: Best Selling Author of the Year (and minus 100 lbs or so). And then there's working toward the dream.I hope they like it.

Also, I mailed some packages today so you know what that means... it's box art time!

Here's the first of two: The Mighty (and worthy) Thor! "By Odin's Beard! Do Not Bend Yon Package!"

Here's the second of two: this package is under Loki's protection. Bend at the own risk.

I love doing these art pieces. If you like them and want some of your own, hit me up at a con and we'll see what I can do for you. Or, you can commission one directly through this site. Just email me at bobby@bobbynash.com and we'll work out the details. It's generally $10 + a couple $$$ for shipping.

Phantom Troublemaker, Ryan Cadaver, and the Award-Winning Bobby Nash once again gather in the Phantom Zone, this time to discuss Spider-Man: Homecoming!

The newest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one that for years seemed impossible – a movie starring Peter Parker, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! Thanks to fan demand and probably more than a little corporate greed, Sony and Disney got on the same page and decided to share Marvel Comics' best-known and most profitable character. Did they pull it off? Is the MCU Spidey the best Spidey? Where does this new film fit in to the grand scheme of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Listen in as Phantom, Bobby, and Ryan discuss the history of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in comics, TV, and movies on Needless Things podcast episode 169: Spider-Man: Homecoming HERE!

If you like this episode, please check out Needless Things episode 168 where Phantom Troublemaker, Ryan Cadaver, and I talk all things Spider-Man leading up to the new movie.

Spider-Man has been everywhere and done everything as Marvel Comics' highest profile and most consistently profitable character.
