SAMARITAN GETS 4 STAR SMASHWORDS REVIEW!

We love reader reviews! Big thanks to Helen Druett for leaving a 4 Star Smashwords review of my short novella, SAMARITAN, published by BEN Books. This is one of my earliest published shorts, originally appearing in Startling Stories #3 in 2006 or 2007. You can find it HERE. Grab your own personal copy for only $0.99 today!

"Different, yet not so. Well written. Some proof reading and editing problems that need to be looked at and detracted from the overall experience. . Otherwise a good story with an unexpected ending."

Thanks, Helen.

ARE BOOK REVIEWS REALLY HELPFUL?

Proof positive that leaving reviews works.

I received an email from Amazon that reads: "Bobby Nash, a customer just told us your review was helpful to them while shopping on Amazon."

This demonstrates how important reviews are to not only the authors of the books, but also the publishers, designers, artists, editors, publishers, and anyone else who had a hand in getting the book out there to be read. Same goes for movies, TV shows, anything you can purchase at amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.

If you've read and enjoyed, or maybe didn't enjoy (we appreciate honest feedback) any of the Lance star: Sky Ranger titles, please do the creative teams a favor and leave a review.

Thanks.

Bobby

MAY 1ST UPDATE!!!

I'll just rest right here a... mo... ment... ZZZ... ZZZ...ZZZ...
This Saturday!
Wait? May 1st already?

Where has the year gone?

Today, I finished up a graphic novel adaptation and sent it off for edits, put together some photos and signs to print out for cons and appearances, and worked on a short story. Yeah. I'd call that productive so I think I'm calling it a night early. I'm beat.

Looking forward to seeing some of you at Free Comic Book Day this Saturday. I'll be at The Rock Shop starting at 10 a.m.

IT'S A KNOCK OUT!

Saw this on-line and loved it. There is a lot of truth to this.

Not Actual Cover
Thought I would pop in with a quick writing update.

Today, I finished up my Fight Card novella Barefoot Bones and sent it off to the publisher for edits. If all goes as planned (does that ever happen?) Barefoot Bones will be winging its way to booksellers in October.

Now, I'm moving on to Snow, a novel for another publisher. While working on that I will also be juggling ten short stories for another publisher, two audio stories for another publisher, and a screenplay for a movie producer. Can't say much more about them yet as they haven't been officially announced, but there's some cool stuff in the works. I'm exhausted, but having a blast.

Whew. No rest for the weary yet.
To Do: July - September

Below you can see the To Do List hanging near my desk. It is intentionally blurry because some of the titles written there have not been announced by the publisher/producer as yet. I added another item to it after I took the photo because I realized I had forgotten it. Whoops.

I also have another Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff entry coming this week. Just have to get it all put together.

Well, I guess I should get back to work.

We'll chat soon.

UPDATED - ANOTHER BLAST FROM THE PAST: LITTLE LAMB AND BLACK SHEEP THE COMIC BOOK

Little Lamb makes an entrance - Story: Bobby Nash. Art: Jeff Austin
Last week, I shared the Little Lamb and Black Sheep prose story I wrote with illustrations by Jeff Austin. You can read it here.

I mentioned that Jeff and I had worked the characters up originally as a comic book story. I didn’t have copies of the art handy, but Jeff did and he shared his pencils and his thoughts on his blog. Jeff’s a talented artist. If you aren’t already following his blog, you should.

Enjoy Little Lamb and Black Sheep.

ARE YOU READY FOR LITTLE LAMB AND BLACK SHEEP?

Not your typical crime fighters.
I was talking on the phone with my friend, Jeff Austin earlier today. I mentioned how much I’m enjoying the older art Jeff has been digging out of mothballs and posting on his blog and that got us talking about some of our old projects together.

That brought me back to Little Lamb and Black Sheep.

Little Lamb and Black Sheep were comic book characters that Jeff and I created way back when (some time in the early 90's I’d guess) with the dream of taking them to series. Little Lamb and Black Sheep was an interesting experiment. The characters in the stories, both good guys and bad guys were taken out of Jeff’s various sketchbooks. We found images we liked and gave those characters life. It worked pretty well for us too. It also allowed us to create characters that were a little different from the types of characters we might create on our own.

My favorite panel from the 1st comic script. Sad this never got finished.
I actually wrote several all-ages comic book scripts featuring the duo, but sadly only part of the first one was drawn before other projects pulled Jeff away from this project and we never seemed to get back to it. I probably have copies of those pages in a box somewhere. Maybe I’ll run across them one day. Anyway, I later wrote this short story to appear in Odyssey Magazine and Jeff added some spot illustrations to it. I miss Little Lamb and Black Sheep. They were a lot of fun to write.

I thought you might enjoy this peek at the Little Lamb and Black Sheep short story. It will be added to the Free Stories tab above for future visitors to find and hopefully enjoy.

LITTLE LAMB & BLACK SHEEP OVERVIEW

Bethany Talbot and her uncle, Clarence (Blacky) Talbot make up the duo known as Little Lamb & Black Sheep.  Together with the brilliant inventor Herbert Talbot III, Bethany’s father and Blacky’s brother, they solve crimes.

Clarence Talbot was a top notch fighter pilot in his youth.  He was part of a select group who were experimented on for a special mission in outer space long before Sputnik was launched.  The mission was a failure, but there was an unexpected side effect.  Those involved aged very slowly and they began showing signs of blossoming super powers.  Thus, the world’s first super heroes were born.

Now, there are fewer and fewer of these heroes around as they are starting to age and find themselves tired of the constant battles and mind games.  Blacky agrees to train and watch after his niece when she devotes her life to the goal he and her father both fought for.  Although she has no super powers of her own, Herbert has created a way for Bethany to use hypnosis as a weapon.  With only the sound of her voice, Bethany can hypnotize many people.  This is how she keeps her face out of the spotlight, since she wears no mask.  The newspapers have even gone so far as to assume the vigilante called Little Lamb is a man.

There are those few who are immune, of course.

WHAT’S MY (FIRST) LINE?

I saw a couple of authors post the first lines from their stories today on Facebook and I thought it was an interesting idea so, not one to let a good idea go to waste, copied the idea with the first lines from some of my prose work. It was an interesting experiment, I must admit. I’m not sure what it tells you about my work, other than that I usually start my stories with a short sentence, but I found it an interesting peek behind my thought processes when it comes to opening lines. I’m sure my short first lines is a result of writing so many pulpy action/adventure stories, but I like it when stories hit the ground running and I think that shows in these first lines.

I kept the list to published prose. There were a lot of interesting lines that I couldn’t share yet because the books haven’t been released yet. Perhaps I’ll update this list down the road.

So, without further ado, and in no particular order (because I was too lazy to do that), here’s a list of the first lines of my prose stories. Enjoy.

EVIL WAYS
“FBI! Do! Not! Move!”

EARTHSTRIKE AGENDA
Axapta Three was little more than a barren rock.

FANTASTIX: CODE RED
Where were you when it happened?

DEADLY GAMES!
Francis Chalmers moved quickly down the corridor.

WITH EVIL INTENT
“Do we have a go?”

LANCE STAR: SKY RANGER “Where The Sea Meets The Sky”
Lance Star did not see the attack coming until it was too late.

LANCE STAR: SKY RANGER “Homefront”
This is too easy.

LANCE STAR: SKY RANGER “Open Range”
Archibald Davis ached all over.

RAVENWOOD: STEPSON OF MYSTERY “Jazz”
Even from a distance the music was mesmerizing.

THE RUBY FILES “The Case Of The Wayward Brother”
Richard Ruby was having one of those days.

DOMINO LADY “Target: Domino Lady”
Jimmy Dugan had big dreams.

SECRET AGENT X “Mountain Men Of The Lost Valley”
Alexander Lienen sidestepped a hail of bullets.

FULL THROTTLE SPACE TALES: SPACE SIRENS “Just Another Saturday On Outpost Nine”
Erin Moonshadow felt the cold shroud of apprehension when she woke Monday morning.

SAMARITAN
“Contact!”

SENTINELS: ALTERNATE VISIONS “The Road To Hell...”
Karl Koenig was having a bad day.

BLACKTHORN: THUNDER ON MARS “The Minefields Of Malador!”
It happened all at once.

A FISTFUL OF LEGENDS “Shadows on the Horizon”
Doc Brand felt the rocks bite into his knees as he hit the ground.

TALES OF THE ROOK “Where There’s Smoke...”
The Rook walked into the trap.

THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE EAGLE “Lights! Camera! Sabotage!”
He moved under cover of darkness.

GOLDEN AGE GOOD GIRLS: MOON GIRL “Blood Moon”
The fire burned brightly.

GREEN HORNET CASEFILES “A Thing of Beauty”
“Do we have an agreement?”

THE GREEN HORNET: STILL AT LARGE “The Gauntlet”
“Anyone here?”

Okay, okay, you convinced me. Here’s a sneak peek at the first line of the upcoming novel, Evil Intent. Don’t say I never did anything for you.

EVIL INTENT!
“We interrupt this program for an important announcement.”

And there you have it. If any of these first lines make you at all curious about the stories, please click on the novel or short story links above and feel free to pick up some books (if you’ll forgive the shameless self promotion).

Let’s hear from you. What do you like to see in the first line of a story or novel?

Happy reading.
