There was a nice surprise waiting in my driveway today. My Pulp Factory Award for Best Pulp Novel for Nightveil: Crisis at the Crossroads of Infinity arrived today and it is a thing of beauty. 

A big thank you to all who voted for the novel and to all who have read it and/or left a review. Your kind words have meant a lot to me. Also, a big thank you to Pro Se's Tommy Hancock for the opportunity to write this character I love and to Bill Black for the amazing cover art. This year Comic and Pop Artist Alley is proud to announce the first annual Dragon Con Kids Sketch Book program! This program allows kids (12 and under) to get free sketches and/or autographs from participating artists and creators. The sketch books will be given out at the front entrance of Comic and Pop Artist Alley. Swing by the check-in table and ask one of our friendly volunteers for one and you’re on your way! Once in hand, kids can explore Artist Alley looking for tent cards located on artists' and creators' tables that match the logo on the front of their sketch books. When your child spots the logo, they are welcome to approach the artist or creator and ask them for a free quick sketch and/or autograph. We’re really excited about the program and hope your kids will be too. So, come on over to the AmericasMart (Building 2) and look for Comic and Pop Artist Alley on the 4th floor! We look forward to seeing you!

Please note, there is a limit of one sketch book per child to ensure that the maximum number of kids can participate in the program.

A little about Earth Station One. ESO is a podcast and also a network of podcasts (20 or so shows on the ESO Network at present, I believe). For 3 years or so, I was one of the co-hosts of the Earth Station One podcast (the mothership, as some of the hosts of the other shows on the network call it). It was a fun show and I had a great time co-hosting with ESO Director Mike Faber and “Howdy” Mike Gordon each week. Unfortunately, real life got in the way, as it does and I had to give up something and my options were podcasting or writing so I stepped away as an official co-host in September of 2015 to concentrate on my writing career. I have popped on the show a few times as a guest since then and I talk to Mike and Mike on a fairly regular basis.

The Earth Station One: Tales of The Station anthology was conceived as a fundraising effort to help bring in a few dollars to help upgrade the network servers, buy new microphones, etc. All stories are written by ESO Broadcast Network hosts or personalities, including some award-winners. I was still a co-host when I wrote my story. Here’s the official synopsis:

THE WRAP UP-- HOOVER, ALABAMA LIBRARY'S SCI-FI/FANTASY FEST!

The 2nd Annual Sci-Fi and Fantasy Festival was, as advertised, a 3-day event with 3 times the geeky, nerdy fun as last year's event. This year the Hoover Library partnered with my friends from the Alabama Phoenix Festival and Kingdom Comics to bring Alabama a Festival weekend they wont soon forget. I know I won't.

Big thanks once again to all involved with the event for taking such good care of us. It was a fun weekend and I had a blast. Highlights for me include Friday night's Whose Line Is It Anyway? which was totally improved as the person running it was unable to attend. We might right playful fools of ourselves, but the audience had a good laugh so it was totally worth it. Saturday night's Match Game was amazing. Probably the biggest thrill of my weekend, The final panel of the weekend had Van Allen Plexico and I discussing crime noir and science fiction and how the two meet was enlightening and fun. Van and I have also decided that we

need to record a White Rocket Podcast episode soon talking about Harry Bosch in books and TV. Should be a lot of fun. Artist Alley included several friends including Van, my Operation: Silver Moon partner in crime, Rick Johnson, Lysa Shin, David Wright, Ali Duke, Patrick Giles, and more. Please forgive me if I forgot anyone. I also met a few authors and artists for the first time as well as some friends from the Birmingham area who stopped by to say hello.

As I understand it, there are plans to do it again next year. If you get the chance to attend, I highly recommend it. Or, if you just happen to be in the Birmingham/Hoover are, stop by the incredible Hoover Library. I wish we had one like it here.
