A NEW 5 STAR REVIEW FOR THE JOY OF JOE!

We love reader reviews! A big THANK YOU to B. Abraham for the 5 STAR Amazon review of The Joy of Joe: Memories of America's Movable Fighting Man from Today's Grown-Up Kids.

"If you grew up as a fan of the 1960s or 1980s versions of GI Joe this is the collection for you. A collection of reminiscences that are simultaneously personal and universal no matter your age, location, or childhood experience."

Check out this and other reviews for The Joy of Joe: Memories of America's Movable Fighting Man from Today's Grown-Up Kids HERE.

A 5 STAR SALUTE FOR THE JOY OF JOE!

A Big Thank You to Shishard for leaving a 5 STAR Amazon review for THE JOY OF JOE. It is much appreciated.

"Great read. There are only so many how to collect or books on collecting action figures a man can read. This fortunately is not one of those. Compiling essays on why someone loves a toy line was definitely what our hobby needed. We all have similar stories and most in this book will trigger the 'back in the day' thoughts of lessons learned and friends remembered. I will definitely look for other books by Jim Beard."

Happy Reading!

THE JOY OF JOE RELEASED. NOW YOU KNOW.

YO, JOE! The Joy of Joe: Memories of America's Movable Fighting Man from Today's Grown-Up Kids is now the #1 book in its genre on Amazon. The Joy of Joe is available in paperback and Kindle.
I may have talked a lot about
these guys as part of my essay.

PURE JOY FOR A TOY For well over fifty years the joy that kids feel for G.I. Joe, Hasbro’s toy phenomenon, stands as nothing short of amazing. Few other creations can boast of such an enduring love from fans of all ages across the globe. Fall in with thirty such fans as they tell tales of childhoods marching alongside Joe through action and adventure, creating memories that have lasted lifetimes. THE JOY OF JOE will amuse you and touch your heart!

Now you know.

And knowing is half the battle.

And while I'm thinking of G.I. Joe, enjoy this clip. It is still my favorite piece of animation.

And here are the various G.I. Joe animated intros.

THE WRAP UP-- COLUMBUS COMIC AND TOY CON!

I had a great time at the Columbus Comic and Toy Con at the Coca-Cola Space Science Center in Columbus, GA on Sunday, February 25th. Guests for the event included Chris Garrett, Paul Maitland Art, Doug DeTar, and Bobby Nash. My carpool buddy, Michael Gordon also joined me at my table with copies of Earth Station One's Tales of the Station anthologies.

I would like to thank Dutch Cummings for putting on a fun con, my fellow guests and dealers with stuff I spend way too much money on, and everyone who stopped by my table for making today a fun day. To those who stopped by to say hello, it was a pleasure to meet you. To those who bought books, a BIG THANK YOU! I also met a few first time con-goers and it's always nice welcoming them into the fold. I'd also like to thank Molly Simkins for the dragon sketch card she drew for me (photo attached).

It was great being back in Columbus. If you've never been, they hold this convention two times a year and the space science center is also fun to visit.

I had such a fun time joining the guys for an all new Needless Things Podcast episode that was recorded LIVE! at Toylanta 2017 a few weeks back! Listen in as Phantom Troublemaker, Bobby Nash, Sean R Reid, Ryan Cadaver, and Gary Mitchel talk about how we played with our toys as kids! (SPOILER: Bobby
These guys play a big part
in my play time discussion.
may have started demand for a new buddy-cop book series.)

Also in this episode, learn why Phantom Troublemaker started the hashtag #bobbynashisamonster

Listen to Needless Things' Toy Stories: How We Play HERE!

LIVE from Toylanta 2017 (formerly Joelanta and the Great Atlanta Toy Convention), Phantom Troublemaker hosts an all-new Toy Stories panel!

Everyone has a toy story.

Join Phantom Troublemaker and a selection of special guests as they share reminiscences about the playthings they grew up with. The topic this year was “How We Play” - the panelists discussed how they played with the toys of their youth. Did we follow the cartoons and comics or create our own stories? Outside or inside? Did we mix toy lines or keep them separate? Our panelists tell you how they mixed brands, told stories, and waged miniature wars!

YO, JOELANTA!!!!

I won't have a table, but look for me wandering around at Joelanta and The Great Atlanta Toy Convention on Saturday, March 12th.

It'll be my first time visiting this con and I'm really looking forward to meeting Larry Hama, a fantastic writer (G.I. Joe, Wolverine, Avengers), but he'll be the second person I've met who appeared on M*A*S*H (the first being Jaime Farr at a convention years ago).

If you see me there, please say hello.

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO GO BACK IN THE TOY STORE...

"Smile, you sonuva... BOOM!!!"
I'm not a big toy collector, but I just could not pass these up, not when they're based on my favorite movie... JAWS.

Simply amazing.

If you'd like to hear me wax philosophical... okay, geek out... over this amazing movie, check out the JAWS 40th Anniversary episode of the Earth Station One podcast where we do just that. Give it a listen here.
