CONCAROLINAS DAY 1

Day 1 of ConCarolinas 2018 is in the books. I capped the day with a fun panel at 9 pm called "Super-heroes in the Modern Age" along with an amazing group of writers, Samantha Bryant, Nicholas Olivo, Drew Hayes (our moderator who kept us on topic, a super-power unto itself), and me. Now back in the hotel room to get in a little work before crashing as I get ready for ConCarolinas Day 2. If you're in the Charlotte, NC area, please stop by and say hello.

SUPERHEROES AND SUPERSTARS

Captain Nash: Hero for Hire
I took a road trip to Greenville,SC with my buddy, Mike Gordon today. We visited a couple of cool comic shops and then made a stop at the Superheroes and Superstars: The Works of Alex Ross exhibit at Forman University's Upcountry History Museum. Sadly, photos of the original art was prohibited so here's the sign and me at the photo backdrop and a few odds and ends outside of the exhibit.

The exhibit runs through June 3, 2018.

Love the look of these doors.

I thought I was being Hawkeye until I noticed the Bat-symbol.

While in Greenville, we popped into Borderlands Comics for their annual big sale. Nice crowds on a drizzly Saturday.

It's also always great visiting with Richard's Comics when I'm in Greenville.

PATREON EXCLUSIVE FREE EBOOK-- FANTASTIX: CODE RED!

ONLY AVAILABLE ON PATREON! Today, Patrons who pledge $5 or more received their monthly free ebook. This month's free book was the most rare Bobby Nash work in existence-- my 2nd published novel, FANTASTIX: CODE RED. Fantastix was published in 2006 and went out of print a few weeks later. This is the first time in 11 years anyone has been able to read this story in novel form and my Patreons received a FREE ebook copy. Want to get in on the free ebook a month club? Join us at www.patreon.com/BobbyNash. Unfortunately, this out of print novel is not available anywhere else.

FANTASTIX: CODE RED. This was my second published novel, following on the heels of EVIL WAYS, which came out in 2005. Fantastix: Code Red premiered in March of 2006.

By a purely coincidental happenstance, Bibliorati recently ran an old Pulp Fiction Reviews about Fantastix. This is only Nash's second book and it is wonderfully executed. He has matured considerably as a writer since that first offering and the control with which he spins this yarn is both deft and entertaining. I really enjoyed reading this book and came to love these characters. If superheroes are your cup of tea, do not pass up FANTASTIX. It has a lot to say. From Ron Fortier's Bibliorati review of the now out-of-print Fantastix novel, which can be read here.

A little Fantastix history.

The graphic novel cover.
I originally wrote this story as a comic book, which also eventually came out, though after the novel, Sadly, both are out of print and unavailable. I wrote the comic book story for Albino Alligator Studios, who owns the characters. While art was being worked on for the comics, the publisher asked if I would be willing to adapt it into novel form. Being young and hungry for work, I said yes and wrote this novel in 3 months. Yep, I wrote it in 90 days.

Using the comic book script as a guide, I wrote the novel telling the story of these super-powered characters on the run from a mysterious organization called Haven. I also expanded on the comic story. In the comic, the police detective appears in 1 panel, where it is mentioned he is on the case. In the novel, we see him actually working the case. The back story is also fleshed out

considerably.

Sadly, the publisher pulled the print on demand book after a few short weeks due to low sales and Fantastix faded into obscurity. I do not expect it will ever be re-released. I am proud of this novel and wish more readers had been given the chance to find it. It is my honor to present to my Patrons, for the first time in 11 years, this month's free Patreon ebook-- FANTASTIX: CODE RED! Want the chance to check this novel out? Join us at www.patreon.com/BobbyNash today! You will also gain access to the previous month's free ebooks as well. That's a great deal.

BOBBY JOINS VIEWS FROM THE LONGBOX FOR SUPERHERO ANNIVERSARIES 2015!

Flashback to last year's Dragon Con! Join host Michael Bailey, Joe Crowe, Bobby Nash and Philip Schweier as we talk about the birthdays of some very special heroes on the latest Views From The Longbox podcast.

Give it a listen here.

This time out I am presenting the audio from the panel I moderated at DragonCon back in September of 2015.  For the second year in a row Joe Crowe and Gary Mitchel (the directors for the American Sci-Fi Classics track at DragonCon) invited me to not only be on some panels but moderate one that was all about the 75th anniversaries of a handful of DC characters.  Joining me on this panel were Joe Crowe (he of the RevCast and the RevolutionsSF website), Bobby Nash (award winning author) and Philip Schweier (of ComicBookBin.com).  For a little over an hour we talked about the heroes hitting the big 7-5 in 2015 including Robin The Boy Wonder, Captain Marvel, the Jay Garrick Flash, the Alan Scott Green Lantern, the Spectre, the Al Pratt Atom, the Joker and...someone else.  After going through the presentation I put together the audience got involved and some great conversations about the characters broke out.

This panel was a lot of fun to moderate an I had a ball putting together the PowerPoint presentation which you can view in PDF form by clicking on this link.

I'd like to take a moment to thank Joe Crowe and Gary Mitchel for having me be a part of the American Sci-Fi Classics family.  They have made DragonCon fun for me again and I appreciate them letting me play in their sandbox.

Be sure to check out the links associated with the people on this panel too.  Because they're awesome.
