FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2017 - THE WRAP UP!

On Saturday, May 6, 2017, I joined an impressive group of comic creators like Francesco Francavilla, Julie Barclay, Shane Berryhill, Drew Geraci, Joe Pruett, Jorge Santiago Jr., and Marcel Vann for Free Comic Book Day at Dr. No's Comics and Games Superstore in Marietta, GA. Creators began signing around noon until 2 p.m., although several stayed much later.

Free Comic Book Day is one of my favorite events of the year. Not only do publishers create special content for the day, but the local comic book stores really go all out to make it a fun-filled event for comic fans. FCBD events have almost becoming mini conventions in their own right.

As usual, I was doing free sketches for the kids and the kids at heart. I love drawing, but it's not something I get to do often. Below are photos and sketches from the event. A big thank you to all who came out to say hello and to Cliff Biggers and the staff at Dr. No's for putting on such an amazing event and taking good care of us. I had hoped to get all of the creators together for a group photo, but we were all so busy there wasn't time.

What is Free Comic Book Day, you ask? Find out here.

EARTH STATION ONE EPISODE 205 – LGBT COMMUNITY IN GEEK CULTURE

This week, the ESO crew takes a look at geekdom from a different perspective. Mike Faber, Mike Gordon, and the award-winning Bobby Nash are joined by Darren Nowell, Sabrina Pandora, and Philip Bonneau for an overall discussion boldly exploring a community that supposedly encourages diversity and inclusiveness. We also celebrate the newest member of the ESO Network, The Oncoming Storm, by introducing listeners to the cast and making Josh Wilson face the whirlwind that is The Geek Seat. WARNER ROBBINS COMIC CON WRAP UP (with photos)

My table at the con.

I attended the Warner Robbins Comic Con on Sunday, September 29th. It was my first time visiting Warner Robbins, but not my first time at one of the Atlanta South Comic Cons run by Mario Russo so I knew it would be a fun event.

I rode down and shared space with my Strong Will co-writer and ESO podcast co-host, Mike Gordon, which made the three hour drive easier. The gorgeous weather was also great for traveling. Once we arrived, set up, then geeked out over the Batmobile, the show opened to a rather large crowd of comic fans. There were two rooms and both were packed all day. There were several great costumes on hand for the costume contest, which was a lot of fun. I was especially happy to see so many kids on hand who love comic book characters. That is wonderful.

Of course, a big part of attending a convention is being able to catch up with talented friends who are also at the con. It is always great chatting with cool people like Michael Gordon, Chris Hamer, Jason Flowers, Joe Pruett, June Brigman, Roy Richardson, Mark Wright, Lisa Wright, J.R. Mounts, Christopher Collins, and more.

I sold a few books and had a nice, fun day in the company of friends, fans, and creative people, which is always a great way to spend a day. It was a long day and I was completely exhausted by the time I got home (left at 6:30 a.m. and home at 9:30 p.m.), but I had a blast. Looking forward to returning to Warner Robbins next year.

You can learn more about the various Atlanta South Comic Conventions here and here.

Here are a few photos from the event.

ATLANTA COMIC CONVENTION WRAP UP

I was a guest at the Atlanta Comic Convention today, July 7th. Always a fun show, ACC happens 4 times a year. Although it is primarily a shopping show  with some great deals on old comics, toys, and other merchandise, the artist/creator alley continues to grow as well. Just a few of the folks in attendance: THE WALKING DEAD'S Daniel Thomas May (Allen) and Madison Lintz (Sophia), Joe Pruett (glad to see you back, sir), Chris Hamer, Mark Wright, Jason Flowers, James Burns, my ESO cohorts Mike Faber and Mike Gordon, J.R. Mounts, Chris Collins, Lysa Shin, Jer alford, Lee Jiles, Eric Dotson, Solomon Mars, Allan Kemp, and more. My apologies to anyone I forgot to mention. Here are a few photos. Please click for a larger view.

I had a wonderful time. Thanks to everyone who came to the show, both old friends and new. There's far too many to mention, but I appreciate everyone who came by to say hello. As always, thanks to Wes and Dave for having me and for taking such good care of me at the show.

Hopefully, we'll see you at the next ACC in September.
