Sadly, the Indie Comic Card Set Kickstarter Campaign has been cancelled.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN AUTHOR...

Spend Sunday writing and doing laundry, which is always an interesting combination. Finished up a short story that was a little bit overdue and got it off to the publisher for edits. Thankfully, the publisher didn't give me too hard a time about being late and allowed an extension. I hate to miss a deadline, but sometimes it can't be helped. The trick is not to make a habit of it. I'm trying my darndest to get things back on schedule. Lots of writing, which is good. I actually finished up 3 projects this weekend (all were already started) so I'll call it a productive weekend.

Heck, I even managed to clean the office to boot. I wish I was this productive every weekend.

And now the Paranormal Literary Award hangs next to the Pulp Factory Awards in my office. I am so grateful for this honor that I have it displayed near the writing desk in my office.

Was asked if I could open the door where the awards are hanging. Here's the answer. That closet is overflowing with comic books. I really need to get in there and slot the last couple years of books. Not an easy task.

Have a great week.

YOU'VE GOTTA FIGHT...

After a frustrating day tied up with non-writing issues, I had a fairly productive evening. Added some words to Snow Storm and also did a little work on a comic script. I also hit the gym with my brother tonight. The buddy system seems to be working pretty well for us.

Writing a fight scene with multiple characters is equal parts fun and tricky. Not only do you have to choreograph the fight, but you have to do it without sounding repetitive. You've probably figured this out, but I wrote a fight scene for Snow Storm tonight.

Feeling a bit tired so I think I'll call it a night.

'night.

EIGHT...

Is not enough.

I just realized today that I've had 8 stories published so far this year and we're only halfway through it and there's more to come. There's no real significance to this post. It's just something I found interesting and wanted to share.

Happy Reading.

SUNDAY MUSINGS... OR... WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO THIS WEEK?

Cover Art: Jamie Chase
Another Sunday comes to a close as the clock passes midnight and Monday morning looms. I'm on a deadline that's due today so I've been spending most of my time of late working on that. Well, that and Ghost Gal promotion. You did hear that it was now available, right?

Once I finish up this project, which I can't really discuss at the moment, I'll play catch up on some items that I've fallen behind on. This week, I'll send out June's Nash News email newsletter. If you'd like to get on the mailing list, it's easy. Just drop me a line at bobby@bobbynash.com and let me know you'd like to get a copy and I'll add your email to the list. It's that easy.

My writing view when deadlines loom
Also on tap is the long overdue wrap up for Alabama Phoenix Festival. I had a great time, but there's a lot to say and photos to share. Look for that soon. Also on tap is the next installment of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff... Oh, yeah. As always, I appreciate the questions. Please keep them coming.

Somewhere in there I'll probably do some writing too.  :)

It's going to be a great week. Please check back soon.

BURNING THE MIDNIGHT OIL...

The author dreams of deadlines... and drools.
I added a few thousand words to this story today, which brings it close to the finish line. I'll give it a final polish and get it off to the publisher tomorrow. Right now, I think it's time for bed.

AND WE'RE WRITING...

Napping at the keyboard again.
I was exhausted tonight (a common state for me of late) so I took an hour nap then settled in for some writing and added a couple thousand words to my current project, a short story due 12/15. The publisher hasn't announced this one yet, but it's a prose anthology of stories based on an existing property that has appeared in comics and prose previously. I'm having fun with the story. It's more on the adult side so I've been able to write cussing, which is always entertaining and not something I get to do often.

Here's a spoiler free sample. I'm replacing some names here to keep the character's identities secret for now.

“So how’d she end up here?”

(The p.i.) leaned back against the side of (the cop)’s unmarked detective’s car. “It started the way these things so often do. A wide-eyed girl from the Midwest with dreams of super stardom, Naomi was the local prom queen, homecoming queen, and prettiest girl in her podunk town. Her parents didn’t want her to go, but they didn’t want to stand in the way of her dreams either. Like so many others before her, once she got off the bus here in La-La Land, Naomi found herself just another pretty girl in a sea of beautiful women.”

“I’ve heard this story before,” (the cop) interrupted. “Let me guess, drugs?”

“Yeah. That’s where it started. From what I’ve been able to piece together, she fell in with some unscrupulous producer types, and I use that term loosely, who gave her a little something to loosen her up. You can guess where things went from there.”

“Porn or prostitution?”

Time for a break then hopefully a little more tonight.

Have a great weekend.

A WRITING WE WILL GO...

The mighty author asleep at the keyboard.
Whoa. It's 5 a.m. I should probably go to bed. I actually made a nice dent in the rewrite on my ebook novel, Snow Falls that my editor requested. I'm reminded of the old saying, "Writing is Rewriting." It's rather true. My editor came back with some good notes that will make the finished book read a lot better. If all goes as planned (HA!) I'll finish it tomorrow because I have a short story to start that's due soon (will say more about that one after the publisher announces it) then back to Honey West/Domino Lady and Ghost Gal

Whew.

There needs to be two of me.

Sweet dreams.

BUSY IS GOOD, RIGHT?

Not a bad day at the office. Sent off two pieces to their respective editors (neither one I can say much about as yet), updated websites, and added a bit more to my Fight Card novel, "Barefoot Bones." Here's a taste of today's work:

Not Actual Cover
#####

“Are you familiar with boxing?” Father Tim asked me.

“Yes, sir,” I said without taking my eyes off the ring.

“But you’ve never seen an actual boxing ring?”

“No. The men back home did their boxing on the hardpack,” I said. “Dirt,” I added off his confused look. “They had a ring behind Mr. Jenkins’ barn.

A few of the other boys snickered, but Father Tim ignored them. “Well, you’re in luck then, Bones. This is one of the nicest square circles you’re likely to find outside of professional sports.”

“Square circle?”

He laughed. “Just an expression. I’m not sure who started it, but it’s a nickname of sorts.” He moved his fingers to draw an imaginary square in the air. “You see it’s square and we call it a ring, which are usually round. So it’s the square circle.”

It sounded silly to me, but I didn’t want to tell him that. “Makes sense,” I said instead.

#####
Writing boxing scenes is tougher than you might think.

I need to do a few thousand words tomorrow to stay on track, but as it's 3:30 a.m. it's probably a good time to go to bed.

'night all.

NO TURKEY COMA FOR ME THIS YEAR.

I actually ate two sensible meals today, careful not to overdo it. I’ve worked hard to lose some weight and didn’t want to undo that work. It wasn’t easy though, let me tell you.

Anyway, since there wasn’t much on TV tonight (although I did get sucked into a couple episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation on BBC America, which reminded me of the image above) I did some writing and made a nice dent in the novel in progress.

Calling it a night now, but back at it tomorrow.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
