THIS INSPIRES ME...

Shout out to Author Alex Kava. She offers books direct to readers. I ordered a copy of her latest, Desperate Creed at a couple of dollars below cover and free shipping. Look how it arrived. 

The Creed series follows Ryder Creed and his K9 search & rescue dogs usually teamed up with Kava's other series hero, FBI Agent Maggie O'Dell. Great reads. Highly recommended.

I have been watching Kava's store, among others, as I put my own bookstore together and I think she goes above and beyond. Not only is the novel signed and personalized, but there's a handwritten thank you card and a bookmark. The paw print wrapping paper on the book was an added bonus. She clearly puts effort into this and it pays off.

A SOBERING THOUGHT...

A sobering thought, no? Sometimes it's easy to forget how many people are watching us, a lesson I was reminded of recently.

This is one of the reasons I try to be positive and optimistic when I interact with people, especially at cons and events. You just never know. I don't want to be the reason someone abandons their dream. I've had people that I know and those that I didn't try to discourage me from following my dream, but they aren't important. The important ones are those who encouraged me, gave me the occasional wish for good luck, or an attaboy when I achieved a goal. Those people are the ones I try to remember and pass the same along to others. 

I still have a ways to go before I achieve everything I set out to achieve, but I didn't give up. Let's journey together.

WHO INSPIRES YOU?

I was asked in a thread on social media who in comics inspires me. Thought I would share my answer here as well.

George Perez inspired me as a creator, not only with his work ethic and professionalism, but with how he responds and interacts with fans and peers alike. When I became a pro, I first looked to George as an example of how to be a consummate professional. George's conduct and professionalism was something I aspired to early in my career and still do to this day.

NO WRITER IS AN ISLAND...

I would love to write on the beach.

No Writer is an island. I joined Sean Taylor's Good Girls, Bad Guys, and Two-Fisted Action Blog to talk about the mentors and influencers that helped shape me into the neurotic mess of a writer I am today. Read the full blog with my and other authors responses here.

Every writer can look back to someone who either inspired him or her to start or to stick with it. With Mother's Day all around us, and folks still in a mood to express thanks to those someones who helped make us who we are, let's keep it going this week by honoring those folks who inspired us to write and to write better.

A big thank you to all those who pushed, encouraged, supported, and kicked me int he ass when I needed it.

I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN SORTA KINDA COMES TOGETHER...

One of the great joys of writing is when things fall into place organically. I wrote some dialogue in Snow Drive last night, character stuff mostly, but also moves the plot along. This morning, as I played the scene again in my mind while I was out running errands and that dialogue sparked a plot for a future Snow story. I love it when the characters make that happen.

I even hit upon a title for that story-- SNOW JACKED! Now, like any good plan, this may or may not survive intact after contact with the enemy (that's usually me sitting down to write), but I now have 2 Snow stories in print (SNOW FALLS, SNOW STORM), 1 being written now (SNOW DRIVE), and 4 others pretty loosely plotted

Now where did I put
all those ideas?

(SNOWED IN, SNOW BIZ, SNOW JACKED, an as yet untitled entry, and the finale to Snow Vol. 1 SNOW'S BOUNTY).  That gives Vol. 1 a full 8 stories in individual ebooks and paperback digests. There is a plan to collect them in groups of 4 for trades (Vol. 1 part 1 and Vol. 1 part 2) and as an omnibus (Vol. 1) in paperback and maybe... maybe in hardcover if I can swing it.

Of course, before all that happens, I have to finish SNOW DRIVE so it cam come out June 1 as planned. Guess I'd better get back to work.
