On this episode, the station is filled to the brim with folks celebrating the life and career of “The Father of Speculative Fiction,” “The Patron Saint of Steampunk,” “The Shaper of Things to Come,” “History’s Awesome Outliner,” and “That Strange Gent from Kent,” Herbert George Wells. Showing the Wellsian love along with Mike Faber, Mike Gordon, Jennifer Hartshorn, and the award-winning author Bobby Nash are Mark Maddox and Sean Taylor (two award-winners in their own right), Doctor Q (soon to win an award in something), and Drew Meyer (who should get an award for suffering through The Geek Seat). FREE COMIC BOOK DAY STRIKES BACK!

I love my job.
How's that for mixing Free Comic Book Day and Star Wars Day?  :)

For Free Comic Book Day 2013 I visted The Rock Shop and Galactic Quest in Buford, GA. I also stopped by A World of Heroes, but sadly don't have any photos from my stop there.

I had an absolute blast meeting some truly amazing people today. I had a great time, as I'm sure you'll see from the photos below. How did you spend Free Comic Book day this year?

First up, my visit to The Rock Shop.
Chatting with the cosplayers

Artist Mark Wright and Supergirl Alisa

Artist Dean Trippe.

Nice, busy store.

Take 2. He's still behind me, isn't he?

Take 3. I like this one the best.

Captain Cold suddenly regrets his decision to crossover to the Marvel Universe.

A cool shot.
And then I moved on over to Galactic Quest's Buford store.
Finally caught Will's good side.  :)

Lysa Shin, Will Beerman, and Jim Ritchey

Playing a rousing game of "Where's Sean?" with Sean Taylor

Rick Ruby creators Bobby and Sean show off their Pulp Ark Awards.

Yeah. We're proud of 'em.

Thanks to all who helped with these, and other, Free Comic Book Day events around the world.

Words and Art: Finding the Right Blend in Comic Book Scriptwriting

This week's roundtable at Sean Taylor’s Bad Girls, Good Guys, and Two-Fisted Action Blog focuses specifically on comic book scriptwriting. Sean posted the top three questions he hears often at conventions or from those wanting to start writing comics or looking to turn an indie movie or small press novel into a graphic novel.

Sean assembled a collection of comic book writers together to find out what they had to say. The writers include:
Jim Beard (Ghostbusters Con-Volution, Star Wars Tales, Hawkman Secret Files)
Mike Bullock (Lions, Tigers, and Bears, The Phantom)
Erik Burnham (Ghostbusters, TMNT Splinter, A-Team)
Percival Constantine (Femforce, Kagemono, All-Star Pulp Comics)
Ron Fortier (The Green Hornet, Popeye, Street Fighter)
Dan Jurgens (Superman, Booster Gold, Teen Titans, Captain America)
Roland Mann (Cat and Mouse, Ex-Mutants, Switchblade)
John Jackson Miller (Star Wars Knight Errant, Iron Man, Mass Effect)
Michael Avon Oeming (The Victories, Powers, Thor, Red Sonja)
Bobby Nash (Lance Star: Sky Ranger, Fuzzy Bunnies from Hell, Domino Lady vs. The Mummy)
Jenny Reed (Around the World in 80 Days, Charles Darwin)
Janet Stone Wade (Jetta: Tales of the Toshigawa)

An Issue Too Long? How Long Should a "Typical" Comic Book Arc Be?

Bobby joins the discussion at Sean Taylor’s Bad Girls, Good Guys, and Two-Fisted Action blog along with writers Chuck Dixon, Erik Burnham, John Morgan Neal, Ken Janssens, Lee Houston Jr., Martheus Wade, and Sean Taylor. This week, the roundtable discussion looks at plotting comic book stories, length of an arc, and just how important it is to have a beginning, middle, and end to each story.

You can read all about it at http://seanhtaylor.blogspot.com/2012/02/issue-too-long-how-long-should-typical.html

This week's roundtable discussion comes from a reader who wrote in with the following:

If I can suggest a question for your question of the day -- How long should a 'typical' comic book story arc be? I ask for various reasons but the main one is that it used to take an issue or two to tell an origin story and I've read several new titles that are on issue 6 and not sure if they've finished any origin story arcs yet.

You can read the panel’s answers at http://seanhtaylor.blogspot.com/2012/02/issue-too-long-how-long-should-typical.html
