NOW AVAILABLE: WRITERS FOR RELIEF VOL. 3

The Writers for Relief anthology series feature collections of short fiction by top talents in the realms of fantasy and science fiction writing. The first and second volumes have brought help to Hurricane Katrina survivors through the Red Cross and Bay Area Food Bank, respectively. This third volume turns the focus to those who suffered in Oklahoma and features some of today's best known speculative fiction authors including Kevin J. Anderson, Ben Bova, Stephen Euin Cobb, Jason Sandford, Bobby Nash, Todd McCaffrey, A.H. Sturgis, John Hartness, Edmund Schubert, Mike Resnick, Danny Birt, Jaym Gates, Gray Reinhart, Janinie Spendlove, and Eugie Foster.

Writers for Relief Vol. 3 is edited by Davey Beauchamp and Stuart Jaffe.

All proceeds benefit the Oklahoma Tornado Survivors via the American Red Cross.

Learn more about Writers for Relief Vol. 3 and ordering information here.

Bobby’s story in this anthology is called Magnus: The Apprentice. It tells the tale of young Andrew Kenny when he moves to a new town and discovers that not only was his grandfather a powerful sorcerer and protector of the planet Earth from demonic invasion, but that he shares those same gifts. When the villainous Lord Lucius Malfor threatens, Kenny has to learn how to use his powers to fight off a new invasion.

BOBBY VS. THE BIG BAD DEADLINE

Tonight, I finished up my story for the upcoming The Big Bad Anthology Vol. 2 and sent it off to the editor. I'm actually a couple days ahead of my deadline, which is always nice when that happens. And just in time for Halloween too. Time for a short break to catch up on some TV. I have another story due Friday so it’ll have to be a short break.

The Big Bad Anthology Vol. 1 is still on sale, by the way. Learn more here.

Dark Oak Press’s The Big Bad: An Anthology of Evil is now available as a hardcover, paperback, and ebook (Kindle and Nook) at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Created and edited by authors John G Hartness and Emily Lavin Leverett, The Big Bad Anthology features stories from a host of authors and is suggested for mature readers.

Bobby's story in this volume is called “Lowlife.”
When Jack Sebastian walked out of prison there was nothing waiting for him but a long stretch of empty road and a long walk in triple digit temps under a blazing sun. When the old man offered him a ride he dared not refuse. That decision was the start of the longest ride of Jack Sebastian’s life.

PRESS RELEASE:

The Big Bad: An Anthology of Evil

Everybody loves bad guys, and these are some of the baddest of them all. Forget the rules. There aren't any heroes. No one is going to save you from the wickedness in the darkness. Monster hunters can easily become the hunted. Twisted perverts can find themselves on the receiving end of their own deviant desires. No matter how big and bad someone or something may be, there is always something bigger and badder just waiting. Even the classics like a dragon, werewolf, or supernatural being can fall victim to something even more evil. Take a peek, if you dare, inside the malevolent world of super-villains, monsters, demons and just plain evil folk. Be careful, what you see there might be disturbingly familiar ...

The Big Bad: An Anthology of Evil is now available in hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats at the following:

Amazon (hardcover) $22.82
Barnes and Noble (paperback) $13.02

WOULD YOU CARE TO STEP OUTSIDE?

It's such a beautiful day that I took the ol' laptop outside for some writing today.
Sitting on the porch, working. It's a simple set up, but the view is gorgeous.
Thought I'd share.

Bobby
The set up is simple. Plastic table, swing, laptop.

The view is worth it though. Very peaceful.

WHEN THE LIGHT BULB BURSTS!

You ever start writing a scene that you aren't really sure of how it impacts the overall plot, but it's what the character wants to do, so you follow and it turns into a very important scene? I just did that. Ah, the magic of writing. I love it when that happens.

I just wish these light bulb writing moments didn’t wait until 4:30 a.m. to burst wide open.

Oh well, sleep is overrated, I suppose.

Here's a sample from tonight's work. I'm working on an ebook novella called Snow Falls. This is all firsdt draft so it might change before it reaches readers. I'll have more on this project soon.

In this scene, Abraham Snow and Owen Salizar, a suspect terrorist sympathizer and all around bad guy, run into one another hours after Snow saved Salizar and his entourage from an assassin's bullet.

#####

“Is it not amazing how easily we humans are able to push past tragedy and continue on about our lives, Agent Snow? I mean, a man lost his life on this very spot and yet they…” Salizar pointed toward the men and women sipping their drinks, laughing, and telling stories. “They move about as though nothing out of the ordinary has happened.”

“As you said, it’s human nature. We have this uncanny ability to move beyond tragedy and get on with our lives. It'’ kind of heroic when you think about it.”

“Have you had any luck tracking down the person who tried to kill me?” Salizar asked.

“Not yet. I have my people working on it.”

“I’m sure you do.”

Snow finally turned to look at the suspected terrorist. “So, knowing that the person who wants you dead is still at large, you thought it would be a good idea to take a little stroll? That doesn’t seem very smart.”

“I refuse to live my life in fear, Agent Snow. I will not become a prisoner in my room because a coward is unhappy with me.”

“I cannot guarantee your safety down here.”

“And I have not asked you to do so,” Salizar said. “My security has been taken care of already. There is no need for you to worry about me.”

“Oh, I can’t help but worry about you, Salizar,” Snow said. He grimaced the second the words passed his lips. He did not want to let this man push his buttons. “It’s my job,” he added.

“So you say. It is strange you phrased it like that.”

“Oh? Why is that?”

“I am a man of resource. I had my people run a security check on you, Agent Snow.”

“Very thorough of you. I take it you found something you’d care to discuss.”

Salizar laughed. “Something like that, yes. It seems that there is no record of you working for Homeland Security prior to today. How can that be?”

“Clerical error, maybe?” Snow smiled.

“Yes. I’m sure that must be it. Good night, Mr. Snow.”

“Good night.”

#####

'night.
