THE DUMBEST WRITING ADVICE I'VE HEARD IN A LONG TIME!

Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it!

I'm always amazed how often I am told what things I HAVE TO DO to be a writer. The only thing required to be a writer is to WRITE. Right? :)

On a writing group today, it was stated that EVERY writer had to smoke weed to be successful. Really? Every writer? So, I guess if I want to be successful, I now have to smoke weed, drink excessive amounts of coffee, stay drunk all the time, smoke cigarettes (when I'm not smoking weed, apparently), not sleep, live in solitude, and have a shitty relationship with pretty much everyone. These are all bits of advice over the years I've been told that EVERY writer must do.

This sort of thing makes my head hurt.
