"Not bad with one absolute gem. I received a review copy for free, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.I really enjoy the re-imagining of fairy tales so was pleased when this popped up on Book Sirens. As with most anthologies, there are some stories that appeal more than others but on the whole the writing is competent or better than that. The "origin" story is obvious in some but more subtle in others and in a couple of cases I couldn't identify it at all…. Which is where the bonus material at the end comes in. Here the writers give some explanation of their work which I appreciated for those I could not pin down and found the thought/creative process used interesting to know in others. It's something I would like to see in far more stories/books.A enjoyed a handful of stories more than the others and I will be looking for more by their authors but the one stand out was the final story, "The Tao of Feeblecorn" by Paul Goat Allen. (Not sure if that middle name is a joke). For some reason this story doesn't have an insight at the end which actually makes it more thought provoking. It's a gem of a tale that resonated with me and I hope to find more work by the writer. For me, most of the stories are middle of the road fare hence the three stars, but I think this collection might appeal to many readers nonetheless."
