BOBBY JOINS THE EARTH STATION DCU PODCAST TO TALK FAVORITE DC COMICS STORIES!

I'm a little late posting this one. I missed the announcement when it went live. Sorry about that, guys.

I was honored to guest on the 56th episode of The Earth Station DCU podcast to talk about our favorite DC Comics stories. It was so hard to pick just one, and I won't spoil my pick here - you'll have to listen, but I think you'll enjoy my pick as well as the picks of guest Mike Gordon and ESDCU hosts Drew Leiter and Cletus Jacobs. There are some good reading recommendations in this episode. Don't miss it.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2017 - THE WRAP UP!

On Saturday, May 6, 2017, I joined an impressive group of comic creators like Francesco Francavilla, Julie Barclay, Shane Berryhill, Drew Geraci, Joe Pruett, Jorge Santiago Jr., and Marcel Vann for Free Comic Book Day at Dr. No's Comics and Games Superstore in Marietta, GA. Creators began signing around noon until 2 p.m., although several stayed much later.

Free Comic Book Day is one of my favorite events of the year. Not only do publishers create special content for the day, but the local comic book stores really go all out to make it a fun-filled event for comic fans. FCBD events have almost becoming mini conventions in their own right.

As usual, I was doing free sketches for the kids and the kids at heart. I love drawing, but it's not something I get to do often. Below are photos and sketches from the event. A big thank you to all who came out to say hello and to Cliff Biggers and the staff at Dr. No's for putting on such an amazing event and taking good care of us. I had hoped to get all of the creators together for a group photo, but we were all so busy there wasn't time.

What is Free Comic Book Day, you ask? Find out here.

WONDER WOMAN NOVELIZATION ANNOUNCED!

Not really news about me or my books, but I am so excited for my friend, Nancy Holder. It was announced today that she is writing the novelization of the upcoming Wonder Woman movie for Titan Books. I think that's a perfect fit and am very excited for her and to read the book and watch the movie. Nancy and I have been friends for years and have worked on a few assorted Domino Lady stories together during that time. She's a great writer and friend and I hope everyone will pick this up when it hits bookstore shelves in June. Learn more about the novel here.
Congratulations, Nancy!

EARTH STATION ONE EPISODE 192 – YOU’RE A WONDER, WONDER WOMAN

Valerie Perez in The Geek Seat
This week, the ESO crew turns their attention to the last (but certainly not least) of the DC Comics Trinity-- Wonder Woman. For 72 years, the Amazon Princess has been the leading lady of the superhero genre and soon she will be featured on the big screen for the first time. Mike Faber, Mike Gordon, the award-winning author Bobby Nash, the lost Legionnaire Darren Nowell, and the wonderful but perilous Valerie Perez share their thoughts of the character’s past, present, and future. Valerie also finds herself bound by something ever more revealing than the Lasso of Truth, the Geek Seat! In the Khan Report, Bobby and Mike rave about their experience at Farragut Fest 2013 and Rob Levy reports on this year’s Chicago TARDIS. Plus, the usual Rants, Raves, and Shout Outs!

A BLAST FROM THE PAST!

Art/Colors: Jeff Austin

Pencils/Colors: Nash. Inks: Austin
Over at his blog, artist Jeff Austin shared a couple pages of art he drew from a story I wrote that featured the adventures of a super-powered character code-named Onyx. Onyx and her team would go on amazing adventures, generally with a supernatural or pulpy theme. She was part Wonder Woman, part Indiana Jones and I had a blast writing a four issue mini series for the character.

Unfortunately, only the two pages below were produced. They're pasted below.

Below is the script for these two pages. I can’t believe I had 8 panels on page 1. That’s something I would never even think about doing today. In an odd coincidence, I recently used elements of the Onyx plot as part of a story I wrote for one of Moonstone Books’ upcoming anthologies featuring pulp hero, The Spider. No good ideas are ever wasted.

Jeff and I did re-team on the character a little later for a comic strip for a local kid’s magazine (mid to late 90's, maybe?). This time I handled the writing and the pencils and Jeff served as inker, although embellisher might be a better word. My pencils were very rough. Jeff decided to leave the strip so I wrapped up the story a little faster than I had originally planned, but I think it was a fun story. I love comic strips and would love to do more. If only I was a better artist.

A total of 21 strips were created and they are pasted below. I'll also add them to the Free Stories Tab above. Click images for larger views.
