MEET AUTHOR BOBBY NASH THIS WEEKEND AT TIMEGATE!

Photo from previous TimeGate appearance courtesy of Geek Behind The Lens Photography.
Join me this weekend for Timegate 2016!

TimeGate is an annual Doctor Who and British media and culture convention in Atlanta, GA. Attendees come from all over the Southeast, all over the nation and even from as far away as England to take part in the festivities. Launched in 2005, the convention hits its 10 year anniversary in 2015 with special guest Katy Manning and Michelle Gomez. Past Doctor Who guests have included actors Colin Baker, Sophie Aldred, Mary Tamm, John Levene, Colin Spaull and Caitlin Blackwood, script editors Terrance Dicks and Andrew Cartmel, composer Dominic Glynn, film editor Louis Robinson, and more.

For 2016, join us as we celebrate 20 years of the 8th Doctor with special guest, Paul McGann. You can see the full guest list here.

I will have a table set up with my books, including the new Sherlock Holmes/Domino Lady trade collection, a good fit for this convention, I think. I'll also be going panels throughout the weekend.

THE SPIDER: EXTREME PREJUDICE GETS A NEW AMAZON REVIEW!

A Big Thank You to The Fiddler for leaving a short, but sweet 4 star review of The Spider: Extreme Prejudice on Amazon. Much appreciated. You can read the full review here.

Reviews are like gold to authors. They help our books rise up the rankings so more eyes see them and hopefully, more readers who might want to buy a copy. Thanks again for taking the time to post your thoughts, Fiddler. It is appreciated.

My story in this volume is called “Fear The Dark.”
Marianne Nelson is afraid of the dark. Every time she closes her eyes she sees monstrous visions of herself and a strange woman being chased by a menacing creature with disturbing features and fangs. She chalks it all up to bad dreams until she meets the woman from her vision, Nita Van Sloan, and her friend, Richard Wentworth. How does The Spider figure in to her visions? Is Marianne right to Fear The Dark?

i hope you'll check it out.

DON'T TUG ON DOMINO LADY'S CAPE! DON'T MESS WITH HER BIG BAD GUN!

Art by Wendell Cavalcanti.
Art by Wendell Cavalcanti.
One of the best things about writing comic books is seeing fresh artwork hit my inbox. Today's treat came from Wendell Cavalcanti, who is doing the art for issue #2 of the upcoming Domino Lady: Threesome series for Moonstone Books. Nancy Holder and I co-wrote this issue. This panel was so cool I had to share. Domino Lady fires a big ol' Jack Kirby looking weapon at her enemies.

The image at left is another favorite. There's a lot of emotion here as Domino Lady and The Veil are reunited as Golden Amazon looks on uncomfortably. Great work by Wendell here.

Domino Lady: Threesome #2 will be in stores August 2016 and will appear in this next issue of Previews.

DOMINO LADY IS IN NO MOOD FOR GAMES!

Look for Domino Lady Threesome #1 in comic book shops this June. It's not too late to ask your local comics retailer to order a copy for you.

Issue #2 by Holder, Nash, and Wendell Cavalcanti premieres in August.

AWESOMEGANG INTERVIEWS AUTHOR BOBBY NASH!

I was interviewed by the fine folks over at Awesomegang. We talked writing habits (the good, the bad, and the ugly), Sherlock Holmes, Domino Lady. influences, upcoming projects, and what books I would want to have with me if I suddenly found myself stranded on a deserted island. I'm thinking, as long as I had a laptop, electricity, and wi-fi, I'd be okay. Ha! Ha!

You can read the full interview here.

Thanks, Awesomegang. You're awesome.
But then, you already knew that.

HAVE YOU SHARED YOUR SHERLOCK SELFIES?

Please keep sending in your Sherlock selfies!

I visited a few shops over the last several days. Some had Sherlock Holmes/Domino Lady on hand. Others did not. Here are a few shout outs I'd like to share!

I popped into Titan Comics Duluth and look what I found. I was so excited to see a copy. This was the first one I saw.

A big shout out to Domino Lady fan, Ray Riethmeier who found a copy of the Sherlock Holmes & Domino Lady trade at The Source Comics & Games! Thanks, Ray. NOTE: so far, Ray is the only person to actually send in a Sherlock Selfie so unless others send their in, Ray will be our contest winner.

A big shout out to my pal, Sean Taylor, writer and manager at Galactic Quest Buford, for stocking the Sherlock Holmes/Domino Lady trade. You rock, bro!

I grabbed lunch at My Parent's Basement with my friend, Mike on Sunday. I was excited to see a copy on their shelf as well. Too cool!

CONTEST TIME! SEND US YOUR SHERLOCK SELFIES!
Want to give your local comic shop or bookstore a shout out?

Take a photo of the Sherlock Holmes/Domino Lady trade at your local store and send it to me through social media or to bobby@bobbynash.com and I will share it on my social media pages as well as on this website with a shout out to your store. You can also be in the photo if you want and I'll happily shout out to you as well. Store owners, you can play too. If you buy a copy on-line, you can send a selfie of you holding the book. Not sure exactly what I'll send the winner yet, but trust me, it'll be kinda cool. Plus, there will at the very least be a signed novel in there.

SATURDAY AT THE WRITING DESK!

Today's office. My sinuses will hate me later.
A rocky start to the day has gotten me off to a late start, but I've moved the office outside today while I spend some time with old friends Lance Star and the Sky Rangers. There's Nazi ass that needs kickin' and we're lacing up our boots.

Why a rocky start? I woke up this morning to some very sad news. Today, the comic book industry lost one of our own. Darwyn Cooke was one of the greats. Not only was he a great artist and storyteller, but a genuinely nice man to boot. I did not know him well, but consider myself fortunate to have met and chatted with him a few times over the years at conventions. He and his talent will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans. R.I.P., Darwyn. Fuck cancer.

R.I.P. Darwyn Cooke
Not only was I a fan of Darwyn's work, but I'm still sensitive to the topic after my Mom's fight with cancer over the last year or so. Thankfully, her battle had a happier outcome, but it's still a very sensitive topic and it's hitting me harder than I expected today.

I can't tread water for a whole day.
I've also been feeling afloat the past few weeks. With the layoff from my day job fast approaching, I've been looking to my writing schedule that has backed up. There's a lot of work ahead of me and I have dived back into it to get back on track while looking for a new day job. Sadly, and this is the part that always depresses me to admit, but the writing simply does not pay the bills. Thankfully, I love what I do. I hope to continue doing it for as long as I can.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings this morning. Sometimes the best way to get through is to put your thoughts down.

Anyway, I should get back to work. Lance star can't take on all those Nazis by himself.

Bobby

PS: Fuck Cancer.

A NICE SURPRISE!

I had a nice surprise in today's mail. The kids at The Bridge School of Georgia made me a card thanking me for being part of the school's BridgeCon last month. So thoughtful and a great reminder of why I do what I do. I may not say it often enough, but I truly do love my job. Being a writer is very important to me and I hope to be able to continue doing it for a long time to come. You can read my wrap up for BridgeCon and photos here.

Thank you all. This brightened my day.

PUTTING A LITTLE SKY BENEATH MY FEET!

Sometimes you write a line that you really love. I ran across one today that I wrote a while back and it still works. It's a line from the upcoming Lance Star: Sky Ranger novel, "Cold Snap!"

“Good to see you again, General,” Buck said, offering his hand.
The general shook it. “Commander Tellonger, it’s good to see you again, too. I trust all is well with you.”
“Any day I can put a little sky beneath my feet is a good day, sir.”

That last line makes me smile as much now as it did when I wrote it the first time. It really fits the character.

Look for COLD SNAP, a Lance Star: Sky Ranger adventure later this year from Airship 27 Productions.

Also coming in 2016, Bobby Nash’s Adventures of Lance Star – Sky Ranger, a one shot special that collects all four previous Lance Star stories by Bobby and features sample chapters of Cold Snap.

SOMETIMES I GET ASKED STUFF… PART 36!

We’re back for a 36th installment of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff… another jam-packed edition. In addition to questions from fans and readers, I've also pulled questions from writing groups/blogs/facebook as well. Thanks for all of the amazing questions. Please, keep ‘em coming. I absolutely love answering them. Yes, even the silly ones from time to time.

You can check out all of the past installments of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff... here.

Okay, let's dive in, shall we? The first one is a doozy.

Q: Why don't you do/use a Kickstarter for your next project?

I get this question, or some varying degree of it, often. I’ve avoided answering it because I really don’t know how to put my thoughts into words on this topic. Just a couple of days ago, a friend and I had a similar discussion. He told me that I have a bias toward Kickstarter. Maybe he’s right.

First off, let me say that I think Kickstarter is a wonderful tool. There have been some great projects come out of it and I begrudge no one for using it and I've even backed one or two projects myself.

So why don’t I use it, you ask?

THE SLAP HEARD 'ROUND THE COMIC SHOP! A SNEAK PEEK AT DOMINO LADY THREESOME #2 ART!

"Oh, sister, you just made a big mistake."

One of the best things about writing comics is seeing art in the ol' inbox.

Here's a sneak peek at what was waiting for me today from Wendell Cavalcanti. The art above is from Domino Lady Threesome #2 written by Nancy Holder & Bobby Nash.

The Veil, Golden Amazon, and Domino Lady captured!
You don't tug on Domino's mask.
And if you backhand her, she's going to make you pay.

Here's some of the previous sneak peeks as well with the reunion of Domino Lady and The Veil at left.

The panel above has Domino Lady, The Veil, and Golden Amazon kickin' butt and taking names! 'nuff said.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY-- THE WRAP-UP!

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2016 has come and gone and boy is my hand tired.

On Saturday, May 7th, comic book stores everywhere celebrated the Free Comic Book Day event with free comic books, big sales on the non-free comics and trades, creators on hand for signings and sketching, bands, actors, you name it.

This year, I spent Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) at Galactic Quest in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I was supposed to head over to their Buford store in the afternoon, but I had such a long line at the Lawrenceville location that I never made it there.

Sketching at my table
My Saturday began when I arrived in Lawrenceville a little before 9 a.m. The store opened at 9. There was already a line running down the sidewalk, which is always a good sign. One of the things that really amazed me was how much the other shops in the city square were involved. The credit for making this a truly city-wide event is with the store's owner, Kyle Putkammer, who did a truly amazing job getting other venues involved. Not only did all of the local stores carry free comics for the event, there was live music on the square (sadly, I wasn't able to get over to see my pals in Radio Cult and Possum Kingdom Ramblers play). There was also a free screening of The Minions Movie at dusk for the kids.

City of Lawrenceville, GA
I was set up inside Galactic Quest's back room, which is an open space with tables for signings, concerts, and other gatherings. It's a nice space. since this was a comic book event, I only brought copies of comic books with me and left the novels in the car. I sold a few comics, not many, which is not unexpected. I do free sketches for FCBD so I'm not actively trying to sell books. It's hard to do both, but thanks to all those who picked up a book or two. I did spend most of the day talking up the Sherlock Holmes/Domino Lady trade paperback, in stores this Wednesday. Hey, have to get those plugs in where I can, right?

Below, I've shared a lot of photos and comments for each. I met a lot of incredible people on Saturday, especially some really cool kids who I did art for while we talked about their geeky comic book and movie interests. It was a great day. A big thanks to Galactic Quest for inviting me to join the fun.

I posted the photos below throughout the weekend from the event on Instagram, Facebook, my Facebook Author page, Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest with the hashtag #FCBD2016. I post to these places during my convention appearances so please follow me to see the photos in real time.

Thanks again to Kyle, Jami, and the crew at Galactic Quest! I had a blast!
