ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER...

Another couple of satisfied customers at my on-line store

I love it when my friends like my box art. Thanks for the kind words, Mark Holmes.

"Check out what came in the mail today! My Buddy Bobby Nash's new Nightveil novel packaged with box art. Some might call it a doodle. I call it Awesome!"

Thanks for the kind words, Robert Krog. I hope you enjoy the book and DVD.

"Among life’s simple pleasures is getting packages in the mail. This illustrated box came from writer, Bobby Nash, who goes above and beyond the call of duty and with style. He also attempted to remedy a bad situation that was no fault of his when the post office lost the first book I ordered from him. But just look at all this! It’s totally worth paying for it twice."

Thanks again, gents. Want to order books direct form the author. Check out my official on-line store. If you want something not yet in the store, drop me a message and I can get it to you.

THE WRAP UP-- NEXT CHAPTER CON!

I was a guest at the first annual Next Chapter - a Books and Author Convention on Saturday, September 7, 2019 in Ringgold, GA. The event ran from 10a.m. - 4p.m. and featured authors of all stripes, an impressive kid's corner, and fun panels. You can find official photos from the event HERE.

I was on these three panels and had fun on each. The panelists were a lot of fun to chat with and the topics were interesting. :
11:00 - You've got the write Stuff, baby! How marvelous stories take form.
1:00 - A Peek Into Publishing
3:00 - Don't Kill My Favorite Character

A big thank you to Kenyon Henry, our host for the event. Kenyon and his team put on a great event and took good care of the guests, including feeding us, which is always a good way to an author's heart.

It was also great seeing friends like Dan Jolley, James Palmer, Ellie Raine, Seth Tucker, Stephanie Osborn, and more. The event supported local libraries and I am thrilled to say that a couple of my books will now be in Ringgold's library and available for checkout.

On a personal level, my Dad joined me for the day to help watch the table while I did panels. This is the first convention my dad has attended and I think he enjoyed himself. At first, I was afraid he would be bored as this is not really his kind of event, but R.O. is a charming, guy and, in typical fashion, found plenty of people to talk to at the event. I think he enjoyed it. We also had a nice ride up and back, which was fun.

I understand that there will be a Next Chapter Con in 2020. I would definitely love to return for that.

SOMETHING NOSTALGIC... MY FIRST COMIC BOOK.

Talking about first comics on social media today got me feeling nostalgic for this issue. This was my first issue of Amazing Spider-Man, #192. I was hooked. A powerful story by Marv Wolfman, lots of action and adventure, and beautiful art by Keith Pollard and Jim Mooney. This book made me a comic book fan. It was fun reminiscing over these images from the issue.

About Amazing Spider-Man #192:
"24 Hours till Doomsday!"

Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson are shackled to a bomb together by Spencer Smythe, this bomb is primed to go off in 24 hours. Smythe, who is dying gloats that he will destroy the two men he figures destroyed his life. Spider-Man, not wishing to be blown up leaves the scene when he can't convince Smythe to disarm the bomb.

While in the city, the Fly has returned to New York in order to commit a crime involving an Egyptian delegation. At the Daily Bugle, Robbie Robertson tries to get a hold of Peter Parker after hiring him for an assignment after Jonah fired him, and hopes he hasn't made a mistake. However, Peter won't be taking and snapshots of an Egyptian display anytime soon, because he is too busy trying to get across the city with J. Jonah Jameson strapped to his arm, and Jonah being uncooperative and trying to unmask Spider-Man.

Spider-Man takes Jameson to Curt Connors to see if his old ally can help them, however, the police spot Spider-Man and Jameson entering through a window and burst into Connor's lab to investigate just as Connors is examining the device. While the police have a bomb squad investigate the bomb that Spider-Man and Jameson are strapped to, the Fly attacks an Egyptian delegate in order to steal his invitation to a King Tut.

When Blake Tower decides that Spider-Man and Jameson should be taken somewhere safe, Spidey refuses to accept letting Smythe win and escapes with Jameson. Meanwhile, Betty Brant is trying to gather Peter's friends together to be on hand when Peter gets his diploma and even calls Mary Jane. MJ misses the call by moments as she leaves her apartment to go and meet up with Peter for a scheduled date.

As Spider-Man and Jameson bound across the city to try and find a way to free themselves, they are spotted and attacked by the Fly. Because Spider-Man is shackled to Jameson, and more concerned about the newspaper editor's safety, the Fly makes short work of the wall-crawler and tosses him off a building. Spider-Man manages to lessen their fall and uses his body to blunt the impact with the ground, knocking Spider-Man out, and leaving Jameson an opening to unmask his longtime foe.

Meanwhile, Mary Jane grows impatient of waiting for Peter to show up for his date, and calls another date, deciding that Peter has had his final chance with her.

When Spider-Man has revived, he finds that Jameson had dragged the wall-crawler back to Connor's lab. There Connors tells them that he cannot disarm the bomb. Suddenly, Spider-Man realizes that there might be a way to stop the bomb back at Smyth's hideout and so with 4 hours to spare, they cross town to get there. They arrive to find that Smythe had died due to his terminal illness, however, a video of his final moments begins to play mocking their final fate and boasting over his posthumous victory.

With a moment to spare, Jameson begs Spider-Man to save his life, and the wall-crawler deduces that there must be some central control computer for the bomb if Smythe could track their progress. He finds the computer and deduces that if he could freeze it, it would stop the bomb. Finding John Jameson's discarded cryogenic container in the room, Spider-Man uses it's freezing gasses to freeze the computer into inoperation. This causes the shackles to release freeing them. With a few seconds left, Spider-Man tosses the bomb out the nearest window where it goes off harmlessly.

Finally free, and having cheated death, J. Jonah Jameson goes from being a coward begging Spider-Man for help to berating the wall-crawler and accusing him of his involvement in the whole plot. Spider-Man, fed up with dealing with Jameson for one day jumps out the window and escapes, leaving the emotionally unstable Jameson to lament over the fact that he hates Spider-Man for making him feel inferior.

What was your first comic?

SOMETHING CREEPY...

New series poster
So, I saw an article on the new Creepshow series that will premiere in October on AMC's Shudder streaming service. As you may remember, I worked on a story for this series. Since then, I have learned a bit more about the episode I am in.

This is courtesy of an article on Den of Geek:
Dana Gould will star in "Skincrawlers," described as “a tale about a man who considers a new weight-loss treatment that has unexpected complications.” The script was written by Paul Dini and John Langford, with Roxanne Benjamin set to direct.

I did not know that Paul Dini, a writer whose work I love, wrote the episode.

Ready for my close up
That is exciting. I had a lot of fun working with actors Dana Gould and Hina Khan and director, Roxanne Benjamin. I also got to meet showrunner, Greg Nicotero as well. It was a fun, laid back set.

I will share more once it's available. At the moment, I'm bound by NDA not to share publicly so you guys get the sneak peek well in advance of everyone.

I'm looking forward to seeing the episode in October.

SOMETHING SKETCHY...

I did a commission recently featuring headshots of The Avengers for the client's sister. He wanted to give it to her for her birthday. Here's the birthday girl, Shounda, with the finished commission. I'm glad she liked it.

Oh, and Chewie was the envelope art.

I am open for commissions. Just shoot me an email if you're interested. Soon, I will have it so commissions can be ordered through my store.

Back to the ol' salt mines...

My unplanned few days of rest and sleep was sorely needed, but it put a crimp in my writing schedule. Today, I'm back at the writing desk and pushing through the discomfort in my leg to get some work done.

A few weeks back a box fell on said leg and cut it. Not a huge deal, but I'm also diabetic so the injury is not healing fast. Nothing serious, until I walked on it for 5 days at Dragon Con in the heat, and without taking my meds correctly. Yeah. I'm an idiot.

After the con, the pain was intense so a trip to urgent care got me back on track. It hurts less when elevated, but it's hard to write in that position so I haven't the past few days.

There's a lot of work to do. Patreon's ebook of the month will be heading out soon. I also have September's newsletter to create and publish, the final chapter of Suicide Bomb to write, and assorted deadlines to meet. That's this week so look for a few posts in the coming days.

Have a great week.

WE LOVE READER REVIEWS! 5 STARS FIR PULP ADVENTURES #32!

We love reader reviews! Big thanks to Michael R. Brown for his kind words and 5 STAR Amazon review of Pulp Adventures magazine #32.

"The latest issue of this magazine of new and old pulp stories. With the previous issue kicking off the fifth year of this revised version, Bold Venture Press put out the new issue of Pulp Adventures, #32 for summer 2019. Under a very nice cover (not by Norman Saunders) taken from a copy of True Detective in 1952, we again get a selection of new and old pulp stories in a variety of genres.

In the area of classic pulp fiction, we get stories from a trio of great pulp authors, whose works are published along with the original interior artwork.

From Charles Boeckman (1908-2015), whom Bold Venture has reprinted a couple of collections of works and has been included in past issues, we get murder mystery detective story, “The Death Dancer.” This appeared in Popular Detective in 1951.

Adventure author Talbot Mundy (1879-1940) gives us “Roman Holiday,” which is a story about Christians and Romans, and gladiator games, set during the reign of Caligula. It appeared in Golden Fleece in 1938, which was a short-lived (eight-issue) pulp devoted to historical adventure. It’s front cover was used as the back cover of this issue.

Sax Rohmer (1883-1953), creator of Fu Manchu, wrote various short stories. So we get “The Pigtail of Hi Wing,” a mystery tale set in Chinatown. It’s from Blue Book in 1916, though am sure it originally appeared in the U.K. first.

We get a variety of New Pulp fiction: air adventure, detective, horror, science fiction, nautical adventures, and more.

Lance Starr is a New Pulp air adventures in the style of Bill Barnes and others. There have been four collections from Airship 27, and Bobby Nash gives us another short story: “The Mystery of Island X!” Here Starr and his crew check out a strange volcanic island and work out its mysteries. This is my first time reading this character, and found it pretty good.

William M. Hope‘s “The Spawn of Lilthu” is a Lovecraftian horror tale set in ancient times.

David Bernard gives us a giant-insect science-fiction tale in “The Wicked Big ‘Monstah Ovah Bawstin’.” Adam Beau McFarlane gives us another Black Island Tavern tale in “Time and Tide.” He last appeared in issue #29.

We get a science-fiction tale, “Stranded at Saturn,” from Jack Halliday. From Robert Walker, we get a different tale about an assassin in “A Snitch in Time.”

As always, it’s a great issue and I look forward to the next issue. Bold Venture has been doing a good job of getting them out on a quarterly basis, and we are promised the fall issue in October.
