WE LOVE READER REVIEWS! 5 STARS FIR PULP ADVENTURES #32!

We love reader reviews! Big thanks to Michael R. Brown for his kind words and 5 STAR Amazon review of Pulp Adventures magazine #32.

"The latest issue of this magazine of new and old pulp stories. With the previous issue kicking off the fifth year of this revised version, Bold Venture Press put out the new issue of Pulp Adventures, #32 for summer 2019. Under a very nice cover (not by Norman Saunders) taken from a copy of True Detective in 1952, we again get a selection of new and old pulp stories in a variety of genres.

In the area of classic pulp fiction, we get stories from a trio of great pulp authors, whose works are published along with the original interior artwork.

From Charles Boeckman (1908-2015), whom Bold Venture has reprinted a couple of collections of works and has been included in past issues, we get murder mystery detective story, “The Death Dancer.” This appeared in Popular Detective in 1951.

Adventure author Talbot Mundy (1879-1940) gives us “Roman Holiday,” which is a story about Christians and Romans, and gladiator games, set during the reign of Caligula. It appeared in Golden Fleece in 1938, which was a short-lived (eight-issue) pulp devoted to historical adventure. It’s front cover was used as the back cover of this issue.

Sax Rohmer (1883-1953), creator of Fu Manchu, wrote various short stories. So we get “The Pigtail of Hi Wing,” a mystery tale set in Chinatown. It’s from Blue Book in 1916, though am sure it originally appeared in the U.K. first.

We get a variety of New Pulp fiction: air adventure, detective, horror, science fiction, nautical adventures, and more.

Lance Starr is a New Pulp air adventures in the style of Bill Barnes and others. There have been four collections from Airship 27, and Bobby Nash gives us another short story: “The Mystery of Island X!” Here Starr and his crew check out a strange volcanic island and work out its mysteries. This is my first time reading this character, and found it pretty good.

William M. Hope‘s “The Spawn of Lilthu” is a Lovecraftian horror tale set in ancient times.

David Bernard gives us a giant-insect science-fiction tale in “The Wicked Big ‘Monstah Ovah Bawstin’.” Adam Beau McFarlane gives us another Black Island Tavern tale in “Time and Tide.” He last appeared in issue #29.

We get a science-fiction tale, “Stranded at Saturn,” from Jack Halliday. From Robert Walker, we get a different tale about an assassin in “A Snitch in Time.”

As always, it’s a great issue and I look forward to the next issue. Bold Venture has been doing a good job of getting them out on a quarterly basis, and we are promised the fall issue in October.

AT THE EARTH'S CORE GETS A NEW SUNNY 5 STAR REVIEW!

Huge thanks to reader J. Martin for leaving the kind words and 5-STAR Amazon review of Dark Horse Comics' graphic novel adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' At The Earth's Core by Bobby Nash and Jamie Chase. It is appreciated.

Art: Jamie Chase
"If you are an Edgar Rice Burroughs fan but don't have this graphic novel version of "At the Earth's Core," it's worth it to obtain one. Bobby Nash condensed ERB's story to mesh with the illustrations of Jamie Chase and together they place ERB's inner world before the reader's eyes in a manner that is just about the way I pictured it in my imagination while reading ERB's original."

Read the full review and learn more about ERB's At The Earth's Core at www.amazon.com/dp/161655746X. This book is out of print so copies are limited.

Happy reading.

#THESUMMEROFSNOW - ARTIST JEFFREY HAYES JOINS SNOW TEAM!

Snow Art in Process by Jeffrey Hayes
#TheSummerofSnow continues!

There are still two books to release in Snow series 1, but we're already looking forward to Snow Series 2. I am thrilled to share the news that artist Jeffrey Hayes has joined the Snow team and is currently working on a cover for a Snow series 2 release. I have already loosely plotted 3 stories for series 2 and this is the first bit of art.

"I am thrilled to have Jeffrey Hayes design a Snow cover. Jeff's cover convey a sense of power and motion that makes the images leap off the page and just feels right for an action/thriller like Snow. Just seeing the tease above has me excited to start writing that Snow story. I have to keep reminding myself there are a couple in front of it to finish first." - Bobby Nash

I’m very excited to be working on this project. Bobby Nash has created a fun and exciting character that inspires my creativity. Abraham Snow is a character who finds himself in any number of crisis - for an artist, that opens up many visual opportunities. Over the coming weeks I will be developing an initial illustration that I hope will capture the thrills, mystery and excitement found in the SNOW book series.” - Jeff Ray Hayes
I will share more of Jeff's Snow art as we go along.
Jeff and I have been part of the same books before Snow. He did some covers for Pro Se Productions on projects I was involved with. I'm pasting them here as well so you can check out his fantastic art. Check him out at Plasma Fire Graphics, Facebook, and Instagram. Shoot him a friend request and tell him Snow sent ya.

Welcome to Team Snow, Jeffrey Hayes!

LANCE STAR: SKY RANGER VOL. 1
A high flying pulp adventure anthology

Airship 27 Productions and Cornerstone take to the skies with the release of their reprint edition of LANCE STAR – SKY RANGER. This collection of new stories starring the long forgotten pulp hero was the first anthology title produced by Airship 27 Productions, dated 2006. Its overwhelming success helped launch the company’s ambitious plans to bring back classic pulp characters in brand new adventures. “Without LANCE STAR – SKY RANGER, there probably would have been no Airship 27 Productions,” claimed Editor Ron Fortier. “It was the book that got us going.” This anthology features four action packed tales of Lance and his loyal Sky Rangers. They include Attack of the Birdman by Frank Dirscherl, Where the Sea Meets the Sky by Bobby Nash, Shadows Over Kunlun by Win Scott Eckert, and Talons of the Red Condor by Bill Spangler with cover and interior art by comic pro, Rich Woodall of Johnny Raygun fame. The book also contains an article on the history of the character by Norman Hamilton and a second on airplane modeling in the 1930s and 40s by Larry Marshall. Included as an added bonus feature for this new edition is an excerpt from Bobby Nash’s full length novel, Lance Star: Sky Ranger “Cold Snap!” coming soon!

At the height of the pulps’ popularity, flying heroes like Dusty Ayers, G8 andamp; His Battle Aces and Bill Barnes were among the biggest sellers on the market. Airship 27 Prod. is once again turning the spotlight on another such aviation daredevil, LANCE STAR – SKY RANGER!

Each month, my $5 and up patrons receive an ebook from my back catalog as part of their subscription. This month's offering is The Spider: Extreme Prejudice from Moonstone Books. The Spider: Extreme Prejudice features my story, "Fear The Dark," which was nominated for a 2014 Pulp Factory Award and a 2014 New Pulp Award. Sadly, it did not win, but it truly was an honor to be nominated. The anthology was also nominated for Best Anthology the same year. The Spider was a fun character to write, a pulp hero of the shoot first, ask questions later mold. I had a great time pitting him against a supernatural entity hellbent on destruction.

WE LOVE READER REVIEWS! SANDERSON OF METRO GETS 4 STARS!

WE LOVE READER REVIEWS! A huge thank you to Virginia E. Johnson for the kind words and 5 STAR Amazon reader review for SANDERSON OF METRO by authors Frank Dirscherl and Bobby Nash. Read the full review or leave one of your own HERE (available in paperback). Also available in hardcover HERE.

"Highly recommended! From the comic book series the authors bring the origin of The Wraith to prose fiction. Paul Sanderson, of Metro, is a spoiled rich kid reaching for attention from his mother and father and can’t find it. As an adult he sets out to travel the world looking for his place in it. Almost dying in the African desert, he is saved by a native who tells him there is an ancient prophesy about a white man coming who will save the world, and Paul is the fulfillment of that prophesy. He is taken to a mountaintop where an old man trains him for his coming place in history as the Dread Avenger of the Underworld. But it goes deeper than this. If Paul dies, he is to pass on the power to someone else.

In fact, it is the second man telling the story, as Paul has already died and been replaced by Michael Reeve, a Metro policeman. The story is well written, and the Paul Sanderson’s character flushed out fairly well, but for an origin story we don’t get a whole lot of action. There’s just enough to move the story along. And by the time he starts to fight crime in Metro City, it’s time for him to die and be replaced by the super hero who will carry the legend on after Paul’s death. This is Book #1 in the prose series, and I suspect there is more action in future stories, or at least I would hope so. For those following the Wraith’s stories in comic books, this prose entry will clear up a lot of mystery behind the character, and is a must read for that reason alone. I highly recommend this well written entry for all comic book fans.
"

Thanks again, Virginia.
