RUBY GETS SHOT DOWN!

Added a couple thousand words to my story for The Ruby Files vol. 2 today. Still a bit more to do to reach the conclusion, but it’s getting there. Here’s a taste:

He stepped up next to “Raven” as she pressed the elevator call button.

“Hi there,” Rick said, a playful smile on his face.

“Not interested,” she replied without turning to look his way.

“How can you say that? You don’t even know what it is I’ve got to offer.”

This time she turned to regard him. Her lip curled up in contempt as she saw the detective’s wrinkled clothes and coat that was frayed around the edges. No way were they in the same ballpark, much less the same league. “Oh, I think I know what’s on your mind, buddy,” she said. “And trust me, it’s not going to happen so you can just tell your story walking, all right?”

The elevator arrived with a ping and the doors parted. She stepped inside without a second glance in Rick’s direction.

He followed her inside and stood beside her, both of them facing the lobby through the open door.

She sighed loudly. “You really are pushing your luck, aren’t you?”

Rick smiled at her discomfort, but kept on the charm. “Oh, you have no idea,” he told her. “I do some of my best work after my luck runs out.”

Keep in mind that this is first draft. It might change a time or two before it gets sent off to the publisher.

New Pulp Publisher Airship 27 Productions has announced that Pulp Ark and Pulp Factory award nominated cover artist, Mark Wheatley will return as cover artist for the forthcoming The Ruby Files vol. 2.

Press Release:

Mark Wheatley, who crafted the beautiful cover for The Ruby Files vol. 1 has signed on to contribute a cover for the upcoming The Ruby Files vol. 2.

After announcing the news, Airship 27 publisher, Ron Fortier said, “Mark's gorgeous cover on volume one has deservedly been nominated for the Pulp Factory Award for Best Pulp Cover of 2012.  So you can image how thrilled and honored we are at having him on board for this new book. He's one of the most admired artist in the field today.”

Ruby Files co-creator, Sean Taylor also commented, “When I heard Mark Wheatley was back on board for another cover, I couldn't believe it,” Taylor said. “I mean, let's be honest, the stories may have really driven the book home for the first collection but what really, really attracted readers to the book in the first place was Mark's cover. We couldn't ask for better. Period.”

IT WAS THE DAWN OF THE THIRD AGE OF MANKIND...

This is the story of the last of the Babylon stations.

An incredible cast.
With those words, one of my favorite television series began on this date, 20 years ago.

Happy Anniversary, Babylon 5.

I've had the privilege to meet most of the cast at conventions over the years. They're a great group. I even interviewed Claudia Christian for the Earth Station One podcast. You can listen to that interview here.

If you've never seen Babylon 5, I encourage you to pick up the DVDs (you can find them pretty reasonably priced). Seasons 3 and 4 are some of the best TV I've ever watched.
Happy Anniversary, B5.

The Babylon Project was our last, best hope for peace.

Earth Station One Episode 151- The World of Mel Brook, Harrumph!!

Would you believe the iconic entertainer Mel Brooks visits the station and shares some laughs with the crew? No? How about his son, writer Max Brooks? No? How about Mike Faber, Mike Gordon, and Bobby Nash reviewing the great career of Mel Brooks with Sammi Stephans (Your Site of Sites), Patrick Freeman (Sci-Fi Janitors), Alex Autrey (7th Row Center), and Dr. Scott Viguie (Dr. Geek’s Laboratory). And loving it! Writer James Palmer feels some “high anxiety” as we strap him to The Geek Seat, and chairman Todd Patton tells us how it feels to be one of “the producers” of Con Nooga. Plus the usual Rants, Raves, and Shout Outs!

ACC/ESO 150 PHOTOS (FINALLY)

Bobby Nash at the Atlanta comic Convention
Ah, procrastination, the writer's best friend.

I finally pulled photos off my camera from the Atlanta Comic Convention, held on February 3rd and the Earth Station One live recording at Titan Games and Comics in Smyrna, GA on February 10th.

ATLANTA COMIC CONVENTION

As usual, ACC was incredible. The Super Bowl show never fails to bring in large crowds. I sold a few books, which is always nice, but it's always great catching up with friends at the show, and this time was no exception. If you've never been to one of the 4 Atlanta Comic Convention one-day shows each year, you should. They're great fun. Click for a larger view.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Let your fingers do the walking...

I was asked what was coming up next for me this year.
Thought I would share the answer here.

What’s next?

A lot of time travel for me this year.

Right now I'm working on a story for Airship 27's The Ruby Files Vol. 2, which takes place in the 1930s. Vol. 1 was recently nominated for several awards. Check it out at http://rickruby.blogspot.com

After that I dive into writing my first Fight Card novel in that series. www.fightcardbooks.com This one happens in the 1950s.

Then, I head to the 1960s for a Honey West/Domino Lady novel for Moonstone Books. www.moonstonebooks.com

After that, it's back to the present for Evil Intent for BEN Books. http://BEN-Books.blogspot.com and then back to the 1940s for Lance Star: Sky Ranger "Cold Snap!" for Airship 27 Productions. www.airship27.com

Whew. :)

The greatest crime-fighter of the 40′s returns in a third thrilling collection of original, action-packed tales of adventure, intrigue, and revenge. Life was bliss for millionaire adventurer Richard Henry Benson until that fateful day crime and greed took away his wife and young daughter… and turned him into something more than human. Driven by loss, compelled by grief, he becomes a chilled impersonal force of justice, more machine than man, dedicated to the destruction of evildoers everywhere. A figure of ice and steel, more pitiless than both, Benson has been forged into an avatar of vengeance, possessed of superhuman genius supernormal power. His frozen face and pale eyes, like a polar dawn, only hint at the terrible force the underworld heedlessly invoked upon itself the day they created… The Avenger!

IS WRITING REWRITING? YOU BE THE JUDGE.

Finally, a definition of writer's block I buy.

I joined in the conversation on the "Writing is rewriting" discussion on Sean Taylor’s blog.

Is Writing Really Re-Writing? (A Roundtable)

The axiom states that "Writing is rewriting" -- well, in your experience, is it really? Or is it the great lie that writing teachers and books about writing try to fool us with?

Is it possible to get it right the first time and require little to no really editing other than grammar and spelling from your draft version?

To get the skinny, we checked in with a group of tenured and new writers, and writers of both genre fiction and literary fiction, short stories and novels, poetry and comic book scripts.

In 3... 2... 1... Go!

Check it the discussion at http://seanhtaylor.blogspot.com/2013/02/is-writing-really-re-writing-roundtable.html

BOBBY STEPS INTO THE RING!

I am excited to announce that I will be writing an upcoming Fight Card novel under the Fight Card Books house name of Jack Tunney. I’ve been very impressed with the books that Paul Bishop and Mel Odom’s Fight Card Books have released and am honored to join the ranks of talented storytellers who are producing some of the best fight fiction ever.

Coming later in the year will be my novel, Fight Card: “Barefoot Bones.” Although still in the early stages, the novel will tell the story of the man known as “Barefoot Bones” from his less than stellar beginnings in the deep south where he learned to fight out of necessity. Then came a fateful encounter with Father Tim at St. Vincent's in Chicago taught him the sweet science of boxing. And from there to a battlefield in Korea where the stakes had never been higher. The one constant in Bones’ life has been fighting. Lucky for him, he’s good at it.
Also available from Fight Card Books.
Fight Card: Barefoot Bones

Coming soon!

As always, I’ll post more information and updates here as they become available.
