THE WRAP UP-- ACC100: THE ATLANTA COMIC CONVENTION

Another great Atlanta Comic Convention in the books. #ACC100 Hard to believe it has been 100 cons and ACC shows no signs of slowing down. The day started off pretty busy, then slowed a bit as the pouring ran moved in. As things eased off a bit, weather wise, the crowds returned and it was a rather busy, productive day. I met some new people, including some creators, and saw some friends, who came by to say hello. All in all, a fun day. I always have a fun time at ACC.

I'm looking forward to returning in January 2020.

The only downsides to yesterday's convention day was breaking the
crown off one of my teeth and still dealing with my sciatica pain. Thankfully, there was no pain with the tooth and I was able to save the crown. Heading to the dentist tomorrow to get it reattached. The hard part will be figuring out how to pay for it. Fun, fun. Today, I revisited the chiropractor to work on my Sciatica issue. I'm much improved over the past few weeks, but walking is still rather painful. Hopefully, it will continue to improve.

Onward and upward.

THE WRAP UP-- NEXT CHAPTER CON!

I was a guest at the first annual Next Chapter - a Books and Author Convention on Saturday, September 7, 2019 in Ringgold, GA. The event ran from 10a.m. - 4p.m. and featured authors of all stripes, an impressive kid's corner, and fun panels. You can find official photos from the event HERE.

I was on these three panels and had fun on each. The panelists were a lot of fun to chat with and the topics were interesting. :
11:00 - You've got the write Stuff, baby! How marvelous stories take form.
1:00 - A Peek Into Publishing
3:00 - Don't Kill My Favorite Character

A big thank you to Kenyon Henry, our host for the event. Kenyon and his team put on a great event and took good care of the guests, including feeding us, which is always a good way to an author's heart.

It was also great seeing friends like Dan Jolley, James Palmer, Ellie Raine, Seth Tucker, Stephanie Osborn, and more. The event supported local libraries and I am thrilled to say that a couple of my books will now be in Ringgold's library and available for checkout.

On a personal level, my Dad joined me for the day to help watch the table while I did panels. This is the first convention my dad has attended and I think he enjoyed himself. At first, I was afraid he would be bored as this is not really his kind of event, but R.O. is a charming, guy and, in typical fashion, found plenty of people to talk to at the event. I think he enjoyed it. We also had a nice ride up and back, which was fun.

I understand that there will be a Next Chapter Con in 2020. I would definitely love to return for that.

THE WRAP UP--THE SAVANNAH QUILL SWEETS, TREATS, AND READS FALL FESTIVAL!

I was a guest at The Savannah Quill Sweets, Treats and Reads Fall Festival on October 20, 2018 in Savannah, GA. The convention ran from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Cottonwood Suites in Pooler, Georgia, just one exit up from Savannah.

Adam Messer put on a great event in a nice convention space. Sadly, there wasn't much turnout from people coming to the event, which is a shame because there was a lot of good stuff there to see and do from authors and vendors alike. There were panels as well. I was on a panel at 1 p.m. along with authors Monica Floyd and John Stamp to talk about being an indie writer. It was a fun panel.

I had an amazing time and meet some cool new folks as well as catching up with friends. I hope they will be able to do another Savannah Quill festival. There's a lot of potential here.

I had also planned to head down I-95 about 99 miles to Kingsland, Georgia to tour the Stage 9 sets where Starship Farragut and Star Trek Continues were filmed. I love the sets and was looking forward to spending time visiting. Alas, as happens, things got in the way that kept me away from touring that grand ol' ship again. To those who were able to make it down for the open house, I hope you had a great time. I am loving seeing all of the photos posted.

THE WRAP UP-- ANOTHER CHAPTER BOOK SIGNING!

Bobby and his books.

Today, we celebrated Indie Author Day today at Another Chapter Book Store in Cumming, GA. I had a great time hanging with fellow authors James Palmer and Alison Reeger Cook. It was a fun day. Special thanks to Amy at Another Chance for taking such good care of us.

It was a fun day. I wish you could have been there.

THE WRAP UP-- MULTIPLE EVENTS (JULY HAS BEEN A BUSY MONTH)

July has been a busy month and I have fallen behind in posting my WRAP UP-- columns for events I've attended. I hope you'll forgive getting them all in one post.

Peter, Mike, and Bobby
On Saturday, July 7th, I took part in the Celebrate Independence Weekend with Independent Comic Creators book signing event at Richard's Comics and Collectables in Greenville, SC with my pals, and fellow comic creators Michael Gordon and Peter Cutler of Tiki Zombie fame.

We had a nice time hanging out at Richard's store and chatting with his customers. I managed to sell a few books, which is always a nice bonus. I also did a sketch too, and it was a doozy. I was asked to draw The Beatles. I hope I did them some kind of justice. We also talked up Richard's appearance (and grisly demise) in SNOW DRIVE, which is always a fun topic. I even spoiled the surprise that his character, though now deceased, is mentioned in SNOW TRAPPED as well.

A fun time was had and I look forward to returning to Richard's for a signing later in the year. Stay tuned for more on that as it gets closer.

The Incredible Faber Boys!
On Sunday, July 8th, I headed to my favorite recurring one day show in the south, The AtlantaComic Convention. As always, Wes and Dave Tillander put on a spectacular event. ACC is held 4 times a year and I have a blast at all of them. This is their 25th year doing these shows, I believe and I have been part of almost all of them. I think I've missed maybe 5 or 6 since they started. The next show is on Sunday, October 7th. If you're in the Atlanta area, please stop by and see us. It'll be fun.

I sold a few books, caught up with some friends, met some new people, and even snagged a few inexpensive trades at great prices. Sadly, while at the con, I learned of the passing of Thom Trainor, himself no stranger to this show. The con gave away 2 sets of passes to Dragon Con to a lucky winner before calling it a day.

On July 10th, I headed down to Butts County where I gave a presentation on How To Create Comic Books at the Jackson-Butts Public Library as part of their Libraries Rock celebration (A big THANK YOU to Radio Cult's Bambi Lynn for hooking me up with the library showcase group). I spent an hour with a great group of kids and teenagers as we talked comics and creating stories. It was a fun evening at the library. So much so, that I forgot to take photos. I have to remember to do that next time.

I plan to do more of these type of events.

Cobra Commander and The Joy of Joe!
On Sunday, July 15th, I headed downtown to the Georgia World Congress Center for the inaugural
Atlanta Comic Con. As with all first year cons, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was a fun day with some nice crowds. I understand that the crowds were a bit smaller on Sunday thanks to the Atlanta United soccer game (and World Cup viewing) were taking place next door. The train ride in and out was a bit cramped.

I was invited to the con to be part of a panel on Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. called Westerns in Science Fiction and Fantasy, which was moderated by author JD Jordan. The panel was a lot of fun and we had a decent sized crowd attend, which is always a nice bonus.

About Westerns in Science Fiction and Fantasy:
In many ways, the Western and Sci-fi genres are uniquely American—but their blending has influenced fiction worldwide. From Star Wars and Mad Max to Firefly and Cowboy Beebop, some of the most successful titles in genre fiction blend these two themes. But how do you balance them, what are the strengths and benefits of each, and how have some cross-genre properties succeeded where others have failed.

The con was fun.

I hope they return again next year.

Bobby introducing the crowd to
Abraham Snow in Snow Falls
On July 17th, I hopped in the car and headed up 85 North to Charlotte, NC for Books and Beer, a reading event hosted by my buddy James Nettles at Jackalope Jacks.

Usually, there are 3 authors reading from their work. Unfortunately, Misty Massey was ill and had to bow out so the readings were handled by me and Patrick Dugan, author of Storm Forged.

We had a fun time and I read from Snow Falls and The Ruby Files Vol. 2. I even sold a book, which was a nice bonus.

The crowd was enthusiastic and the SNOW covers look awesome under
the bar's black light.

As I wrap up this wrap up, I am preparing for my next convention. Please join me this weekend, July 27 - 29 in Hoover, AL for the Hoover Public Library Sci-Fi/Fantasy Festival. This is an amazing event with authors, actors, filmmakers, and more. It's always a fun and educational show.

Here's my panel schedule:

THE WRAP UP-- CONCAROLINAS

I was a guest at ConCarolinas in Charlotte, NC this past weekend, June 1 - 3. A literary con, CC brings in fans of books, sci-fi, and fantasy primarily, but I usually do well pushing my books there as well. I arrived Friday evening and set up and did a panel, hung out with some folks, then turned in, ready for a big Saturday. Saturday did not disappoint, although it deep seem to be a smaller crowd than normal. I was on several panels, all of which were a lot of fun. Due to an unforeseen personal issue, I had to leave Saturday night so I missed Sunday at the con.

Due to all of that, I didn't have time to take many photos. Sorry.

Here was my panel schedule:

FRIDAY, JUNE 1
Superheroes have been popular for decades, but society changes and our heroes need to, as well. What do we want from our superheroes now, that might be different from decades ago? How can superhero writers create characters that reflect the diversity of the population? This was a lot of fun. We talked super-heroes from the movies, TV, and comics. Lots of laughs.

SATURDAY, JUNE 2
Come watch our writing teams collaborate on a character and topic the audience throws at them. This type of panel is always a crowd-pleaser. Always fun. The panelists and audience crafted a time travel story from scratch.

The novella fell out of fashion several years back, but is now making a comeback in this time of e-readers and digital publication. Let's explore the benefits and costs off novella writing, and why it is an option novelists should consider. A great discussion on the good, the bad, and the ugly of writing, producing, and reading novellas. There was a lot of good information shared on this one.

How fast do you NEED to release books to make a living? Once upon a time it took years for books to be released, but these days, readers are demanding we write as fast as they can consume. Our panel talks about whether or not you need to release a book every fifteen minutes to make money. This one had my name written all over it. Another great panel on the craft of writing and writer's output.

4:30 pm - Author Reading with Bobby Nash No one actually came for my reading, but I met a nice lady and we talked about writing for 30 minutes so that was good too.

9:00 pm - Off With Her Head!
There’s no way around it – sometimes a character has to die. Should you use poison, a blade, fire? What’s the surest method? How long will it take for him to die? Let’s talk about the nitty-gritty of killing off characters. Because I had to leave early, I missed this panel, which is a shame because I was really looking forward to it.

Thanks for another great year, ConCarolinas.

THE WRAP UP-- SAVANNAH MEGA COMIC CON

Truly outrageous!
Apologies for the delay, but it's been a busy week. On May 12 - 13th I was in historic Savannah, Georgia for the Savannah Mega Comic Con 2018. I had a fun time at the event, in spite of a few logistical issues, which we got worked out fairly quickly. There was a nice, but small crowd at the con and I sold a few books, not as many as I had hoped, but... and I did several sketches. Teaming up with my pals, John Hartness and Davey Beauchamp, I offered a free sketch card piece of art to anyone who came by my table that bought something from either of them and showed it to me. It got a lot of people to the table so I'd call it a successful idea (it was all John's idea, that clever so and so) that I will have to do again.

I had a fun time hanging out with friends, meeting some new folks too, which is a nice bonus. On Saturday night, John, Davey, and I discovered The Chromatic Dragon restaurant and video game bar. It was nerd paradise. We loved it!

Thanks again, Savannah Mega Comic Con for having me at your con.

THE WRAP UP-- WINDY CITY PULP AND PAPER CON AND BEYOND!

Over the weekend, my family took a long overdue road trip together. It's been 7 months since my mother passed away and my dad needed to get out for a bit. I think we all did. The Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention was this weekend, and since I was nominated for a couple of awards, we packed up the vehicle, put Georgia in our rear view, and headed toward Chicago. The plan was to not get in a hurry, which we didn't, make several stops, which we really didn't do either, except for a quick stop at McKay's in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I love that store and can't pass through without visiting. We traveled through Tennessee, Kentucky, and into Illinois on Thursday, arriving very early Friday morning.

It's a good thing we went as it turns out I won the Pulp Factory Award for Best Short Story, which was pretty darn cool. The awards ceremony was held Friday evening to a lively crowd. It was a wonderful moment and I was honored to accept my first Pulp Factory Award in person while surrounded by my friends.

Speaking of, I also got to hang out with some talented friends that I don't get to see near often enough or had never met in person until this weekend like Van Allen Plexico, Wayne Reinegal, Ron Fortier, Rob Davis, Doug Klauba, David White, Ray Reithmeier, Will Murray, Mike Chomko, and more. I apologize if I forgot anyone. It's been a long weekend and I am terrible with names so there are a few folks I met for the first time and I'm blanking on names. Apologies. The old brain has turned to pulp, methinks.

The Pulp Factory Awards were presented at the 2018 Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention in Chicago. I was honored to have SNOW DRIVE nominated for Best Novel and my story, "Takedown" from THE RUBY FILES Vol. 2 nominated for Best Short Story.

The winners for works published in 2017 are:
Best Novel: Pulp Heroes: Sanctuary Falls by Wayne Reinagel
Best Short Story: Takedown by Author Bobby Nash from Ruby Files, Vol 2
Best Anthology: The Ruby Files, Vol 2 (Airship 27)
Best Cover art: Holmes & Houdini by Chad Hardin Art
Best Interior Art: The Ruby Files, Vol 2 by Nik Poliwko
Special Award: Pulp Grand Master: Ron Fortier

Congratulations to all the winners!

I am truly honored to accept the award for Best Short Story for my story, " Takedown" from Airship 27's The Ruby Files, Vol 2The Ruby Files was nominated 5 times and won 3. Congratulations to Team Ruby! I am proud of you all and thrilled to be part of this amazing book.

I didn't have a table at the con and only told two people, only one of whom was at the con, that I was coming. I wanted to surprise everyone, which I did. That was nice. I did hear a lot that if people knew I was coming they would have brought books to get signed so I will make sure to announce these things in the future. I still managed to sign several books that were on sale in the dealer's room.

On Saturday, we hit the road for Cherryville, Missouri, a tiny, tiny little town that was very hard to find on a map, which we had to use since there was no cell service int he area so no
GPS. My Dad has an old Army buddy who lives in Cherryville. They still trade Christmas cards and talk on the phone, but have not seen one another in person in 48 years. Since we were sorta, kinda in the neighborhood, we planned a reunion and had a grand visit for a few hours. Hopefully, they won't wait so long to meet up again. It was my first visit to Missouri, which was neat. I got to see the famous St. Louis Arch. Although we didn't stop to visit, it looked cool from the interstate. I grabbed a souvenir shot glass to commemorate the experience.

Next, we headed to Metropolis, Illinois, also arriving there very early in the morning. I love Metropolis and was looking forward to showing my dad and brother the Superman and Pop Culture museums on Sunday before we headed home, but alas, nether of them had any interest so we left without taking the tour. We did stop so I could take a quick photo with the Superman statue.

From there, it was back through Kentucky, Tennessee (where I snapped a shot of the fabled Batman Building), and finally back home to Georgia where I crashed hard after getting home. It was a long, tiring weekend, but I had an absolutely amazing time. I posted a lot of photos from my travels to my various social media pages. Hopefully, they were not too intrusive.

All in all, it was a great weekend. Thanks to everyone who helped make the weekend possible and enjoyable. Maybe I'll be able to return to Windy City Pulp and Paper Con next year with some books to sell.

THE WRAP UP-- SC COMICON 2018!

Bobby with Gotham's Maggie Geha
and ESO podcast's Mike Faber.
Sorry for the delay in getting this one posted. It's been a hectic week.

Last weekend (March 24 - 25th), I was a guest at SC Comicon in Greenville, SC. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite cons of the year. This was the 5th year and it was another great one. I was set up in Artist Alley at table #522. There were great crowds all weekend and I even managed to sell a book or two. Always a nice bonus. Another nice bonus was getting to meet, briefly as we passed each other in the green room, Carey Elwes and Adrian Paul.

I wasn't at my best, physically. A minor accident had knocked my hip and back out of alignment. Painful, but easily corrected by a
Robert and Michele Young
our most gracious hosts.
visit to the chiropractor. The unwanted side effect was a flare up of Sciatica, which runs the length of your right leg from your butt to your foot. Not excruciatingly painful, but a constant pain that kept me off my feet most of the weekend so I didn't get to walk around or shop as much as I would have wanted. Apologies to those I did not get a chance to see.

As always, Robert and Michele Young and their staff did a bang up job taking care of us and putting on a wonderful event. There was also a reception at the Alex Ross museum exhibit. I had seen it before, but it was worth a return visit. If you're in Greenville, SC between now and June 3rd, I highly recommend it.

On Sunday, I filled in for the ailing Mike Gordon, who was unable to make the con due to being ill, moderating the Meggie Geha panel with
Sanford Greene's
convention book
cover art.
Mike Faber. Mike and Mike are the hosts of the Earth Station One podcast and great guys. You should give their show a listen. Maggie portrayed the second iteration on Poison Ivy on FOX's Gotham and she was a great guest and had a lot of cool stories. I believe Mike is planning to release the recording of it on ESO's Patreon Page.

To those who came out, stopped by the table or the panel, bought something, or just said hi, I appreciate it and I hope you had a great con.

Let's do it again next year.

Bobby

SC Comicon 2019 dates are March 9th - 10th.

THE WRAP UP-- TRI-CITIES TOY AND HOBBY SHOW!

Bobby with Michael Stevens.
I was a guest at the Tri-Cities Toy and Hobby Show on Saturday, March 10th in Gray, Tennessee, a suburb just past Johnson City, where I spent the night. In addition to selling books, as I usually do at events like this, I offered to do $10 sketches with the money from each going to the convention's charity of choice for the weekend, Coalition 4 Kids. I only had one taker, but I am proud to announce that the convention raised $3,555 for Coalition 4 Kids.

A Big Thank You to Michael Stevens for hosting an amazing event and taking good care of me. Also, many thank you very muches to everyone who came out and supported the charity, bought some cool stuff, and generally had a great time. To those who stopped by my table to say hello and check out my books, you all rock. Thanks.
