THE WRAP UP-- NEXT CHAPTER CON!

I was a guest at the first annual Next Chapter - a Books and Author Convention on Saturday, September 7, 2019 in Ringgold, GA. The event ran from 10a.m. - 4p.m. and featured authors of all stripes, an impressive kid's corner, and fun panels. You can find official photos from the event HERE.

I was on these three panels and had fun on each. The panelists were a lot of fun to chat with and the topics were interesting. :
11:00 - You've got the write Stuff, baby! How marvelous stories take form.
1:00 - A Peek Into Publishing
3:00 - Don't Kill My Favorite Character

A big thank you to Kenyon Henry, our host for the event. Kenyon and his team put on a great event and took good care of the guests, including feeding us, which is always a good way to an author's heart.

It was also great seeing friends like Dan Jolley, James Palmer, Ellie Raine, Seth Tucker, Stephanie Osborn, and more. The event supported local libraries and I am thrilled to say that a couple of my books will now be in Ringgold's library and available for checkout.

On a personal level, my Dad joined me for the day to help watch the table while I did panels. This is the first convention my dad has attended and I think he enjoyed himself. At first, I was afraid he would be bored as this is not really his kind of event, but R.O. is a charming, guy and, in typical fashion, found plenty of people to talk to at the event. I think he enjoyed it. We also had a nice ride up and back, which was fun.

I understand that there will be a Next Chapter Con in 2020. I would definitely love to return for that.

LIFE IN THE FASTER LANE COLLECTIONS - COMING 2018 FROM BEN BOOKS!

BIG NEWS! R.O. and the gang are back!

BEN Books is planning a collection of Life In The Faster Lane strips in book form to release in 2018. Writer/Artist Bobby Nash said, "I am excited to get R.O. back into print for a new generation of kids to enjoy." When asked if this collection could lead to new Life In The Faster Lane strips being created, Nash smiled and said, "Anything's possible."

Life In The Faster Lane strips can currently be found at https://fasterlane.blogspot.com.
The comic strip originally ran from 1992 - 2004 in Keeping Up With Kids magazine.

Keep watching this space for more news as it becomes available.

FEELING ARTSY...

Doing a little art yesterday. My first time (that I recall) drawing Hellboy. Mike Mignola's design work makes it look deceptively easy. Trust me, it is not. Click for a larger view.

Yesterday's Sketchapalooza continued with a visit by an old friend. It's been a long time since I drew R.O. and he won't let me forget it. R.O. and the Life In The Faster Lane cast were patterned after my family. R.O. is definitely my dad. You can see some of the old strips at http://fasterlane.blogspot.com (has not been updated in a long time. I'm planning a collection of Faster Lane strips this year. Adding some color to them. Fun trip down memory lane.

I packed up two packages of Bobby's Big Box O' Books yesterday and included a couple of box doodles before they go in the mail. Those are always fun to do.

It's not too late to get your Big Box O' Books. GET YOURS HERE TODAY!

HUMBUG! HUMBUG, I SAY!

Happy Humbug Day
And who better to share it with than my favorite curmudgeon, R.O. from my old Life In The Faster Lane comic strip. I'll be nice and keep my grumblings to myself today. HA!

It's also the 1st Day of Winter, but I don't have a handy comic strip for that one. :)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I probably don't say it enough, but I am thankful to all the people in my life. I'd also like to take a moment to thank all of you who stop by the site to read my ramblings and shameless self promotion or buy one of my books. I appreciate it.

But, enough with the mushy stuff (heh). Here are some of the old Life In The Faster Lane strips that dealt with Thanksgiving.

Enjoy.

Dig in!

Sometimes it better not to know.

And actual line uttered by my Dad.
Another one straight from the real R.O.'s mouth.

Sad, but true.

From the mouth of babes, eh?

I think we've all heard this one before.
Please ignore the web addresses at the bottom of the strips. They're from the old files and haven't been updated. Click on images for a larger view.

Happy Thanksgiving.

HALLOWEEN IN THE FASTER LANE!

I have a confession to make. I don't generally celebrate Halloween. Whew. I feel so much better after getting that off my chest. I have friends who go all out for Halloween and I do enjoy watching their efforts and I do enjoy seeing folks in costume. I used to Trick or Treat as a kid, but once I became an adult I just sort of stopped doing much for the holiday. I don't care for wearing costumes myself, which might be part of it. Regardless, I'm around cosplayers all year long at various conventions and appearances so costumes are just the norm for me. Oh well.

Anyway, once upon a time, many moons ago, I used to write and draw the Life In The Faster Lane comic strip for a local newspaper and then later for the internet. It's been awhile since I updated it, but you can check out some of the strips at http://fasterlane.blogspot.com. These strips were based on my family and I had fun doing them. It's been a number of years since I've drawn any strips though. Maybe I'll revisit the characters in the future.

For your Halloween pleasure, here are some of the Halloween-themed Life In The Faster Lane strips.

Enjoy.

EVIL'S COMING... DRINK UP!

I found a stash of Evil Ways shotglasses today that I didn't realize I still had. I thought I’d lost the last of them when my con bag was stolen from the car at Dragon*Con a month back. I guess this means I’ll still have a few more at cons, but when they’re gone, they’re gone. There are currently no plans to make more at this time. Maybe a different type of glass might happen in the future. We'll see.

Oh yeah, I think this is a good time to mention that the novel that inspired these, Evil Ways, will be returning soon to booksellers for those interested in reading it. You can read all about Evil Ways in the Novels tab above. The follow up, Evil Intent is on track to come out early 2013 as well.

On a totally unrelated note, my Dad’s home from the hospital and all settled in. He’s still high as a kite from the pain pills, but is moving around with the aid of a walker. Doctor said his knee replacement was a success. This is great news.

I'm still suffering from this pinched nerve/hip injury that has my Sciatic Nerve all in a knot. The pain has been less today, possibly because it had to be so I could help my Dad get up the stairs and into his house today. Hopefully, that means recovery is right around the corner. Walking is better, but the pain still comes when I'm in the processes of standing up or sitting down. Ouch.

Charlotte Comic Con Wrap Up!

I was a guest at the Charlotte Comic Con on Sunday, December 18th in Charlotte, North Carolina. A fun show. Con organizers Rick and Dave put on this one day show three times a year. They are always packed and it's great seeing more families at these events, especially all of the kids. They've even started doing a costume contest which adds some nice costumed folks to the mix.

Here are a few photos from the con.
