IT ONLY TOOK 30 YEARS...

Writing is such an odd business. This past week, I was offered the chance to write a novel featuring a character I have actively pitched comic book stories with for over the last 30 years. Eventually, I realized it wasn't going to happen and stopped trying. Now, I'm getting a chance to write the character in novel format. I'm so excited. No details as yet, but will share them soon. I may have spilled the beans on a podcast interview I did last night that will be out later this week. Hint! Hint! Nudge! Nudge! Or, if you were at River City Comic Expo last weekend, you may have heard it on a panel.

This is further proof that you should never give up on your dreams. Sometimes things take a while. I'm excited to be working on this character.

Okay, here's another hint that will tell you nothing. The image to the left is a crop from a well-known image featuring this character from many years back.

More news on this soon.

THE WRAP UP-- RIVER CITY COMIC EXPO!

Like a (melon) baller!
The River City Comic Expo was held on June 11 - 12, 2016 in Little Rock, AR. I was a guest at the convention for the first time this year as the show moved from a 1 day show to a 2 day show. The show had great attendance and I saw a lot of enthusiastic fans, gamers, and cosplayers walking the floors and hanging out. Sales were slow for the weekend, but I had an absolute blast seeing some friends I hadn't seen in a long time and meeting some people for the first time.

I was part of some panels and meet 'n greets, including a fun Friday night party on Junction Bridge. There were cool conversations and a great view.

I was a guest in the Pulp Ark section of the con and Tommy Hancock took good care of me and the other guests as well. I also did panels for Pulp Ark. Those were fun, definitely the highlights of the weekend for me.

PULP ARK MEET AND GREET-This is a drop in Panel for both Pulp Ark Guests and Fans, very informal, chance to stick your head in, see what great Guests Pulp Ark is bringing to River City and have a few personal, casual minutes with actors, writers, and more! Lots of cool discussions about writing.

THE FIVE Ws OF PULP? (Mostly What it is!) Aubrey Stephens, Tommy Hancock, Bobby Nash, Phillip Drayer Duncan, David White-Pulp Fiction- Learn the history of one of the most influential mediums in pop culture and how magazines of the 1930s and 40s have led to an exciting new style of writing that is all over the place today. From the origins of science fiction to brand new heroes today in all sorts of books, comics, anime, movies, television series, and more, find out how Pulp has gone from being a type of Fiction to a Culture all its own. Tommy asked us to introduce ourselves and tell us what one of the Ws of pulp was that described us. He asked me to go first. I introduced myself and told the crowd that my W stands for Whore because
I write almost anything for money. I don't think that was the W Tommy had in mind.

GHOST IN THE GENRE-Paranormal Fiction Larry Flaxman, Alexander S. Brown, Santiago Cirilo, Bobby Nash, Brad Carter-The term ‘Paranormal’ covers a wide spectrum, it’s not just about ghosts anymore. Learn the basics and ins and outs of Paranormal Fiction, what’s hot now and what’s not anymore, from top names in the field. I was a little out of place on this panel, but I talked Ghost Gal. My ghosts are purely fictional. I don't really have any experience with the real thing, which is where this panel went.

The Pulp Ark Awards were handed out on Saturday. but I was unable to make it over to see the presentation. Congratulations to the winners.

BOBBY'S RIVER CITY COMIC EXPO PULP ARK PANEL SCHEDULE RELEASED!

Join me at the River City Comic Expo on June 11th - 12th in Little Rock, Arkansas. There are some great guests attending and a good time will be had by all.

This is also the only con where the Operation: Silver Moon team of Bobby Nash & Rick Johnson will be appearing together so don't miss your opportunity to meet us both and get your book signed. I also understand that Rick will have original art from the book for sale as well.

If that wasn't enough, this is also the only con where Bobby Nash and Rob Davis will appear together this year. Not only is Rob the art director for Airship 27 Productions, but he handled artwork on anthologies featuring my work, including Secret Agent X Vol. 4 and Lance Star: Sky Ranger vol. 2.

Tommy Hancock will also be on hand. He has edited and/or published several stories of mine over the years. This is also our only joint appearance scheduled for this year.

I hope to see you at the con.

DOMINO LADY “MONEY SHOT” NOMINATED FOR A PULP ARK AWARD!

I am excited to announce that my Domino Lady “Money Shot” novel has been nominated for a Pulp Ark Award for Best Novella (the novel/novella count is based on word count so even though the publisher calls it a novel, the awards do not).

To say I’m thrilled and honored is an understatement. Thanks to those who nominated my book. It is appreciated. Congratulations to all the nominees.

If you’d like to cast your votes for the Pulp Ark Awards, the ballot and instructions are below.

PULP ARK AWARD NOMINEES ANNOUNCED!

PRESS RELEASE:

The Pulp Ark New Pulp Awards, as announced earlier this year, are continuing in 2016 and will be awarded at the River City Comic Expo June 11-12, 2016 in Little Rock, AR.

With nominations now closed for the 2016 Pulp Ark New Pulp Awards, voting is open from February 5th, 2016 to 5:00 PM CST February 21, 2016.

“It’s time,” says Tommy Hancock, Coordinator of Pulp Ark and the Awards, “to pick the best of the best from 2015.  And we have always prided ourselves on being the Pulp Award that has always been open to public voting and we continue that practice this year. Anyone of age can vote, but we do ask, as always, that this be treated fairly and justly. Of course, we are aware of ways votes could be made that are either not valid or simply a result of someone begging everyone in their family and graduating class to vote for them.  What we ask is that those who vote and encourage others to vote do so with the right intent and consideration for all involved.”

Voting is open to all who wish to vote that are 18 years or older.  All voters are subject to being asked to provide verification of age or identity if necessary throughout the voting process and the determining of winners.  Refusal to do so if requested will result in the voter’s ballot being voided.

If you nominated in a particular category and do not see your nomination on the final ballot, it is because either the work/nominee was not appropriate for this year’s ballot due to not having been published or first published in 2015 OR it did not meet qualifications for another reason, such as a nominated work being a comic book or audiobook only, not a work of prose.

Voting opens on February 5 and will be open until 5 PM CST on February 21, 2016. All who wish to vote are asked to cut and paste  the ballot from the Pulp Ark Award Facebook page or any other source where the ballot is posted.  Then, the voter is requested to vote only ONCE for each category and to EITHER only list the nominee they are voting for under each category or to highlight the nominee (s) they are voting for in RED.  Once they have completed their ballot, voters are asked to email the ballot to PulpArkNewPulpAwards2016@yahoo.com. Each ballot must contain a link to a Facebook page, a Twitter account, an email profile, or some other verifiable source by which the identity of the voter can be affirmed.

In the past, the Pulp Ark Awards were physical plaques presented to each winner. The final form of the 2016 Awards has not be determined at this point, but a physical award of some sort will be given to each winner.

NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN FOR 2016 PULP ARK NEW PULP AWARDS!

The Pulp Ark Awards Have Returned!
NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN FOR 2016 PULP ARK NEW PULP AWARDS!
The Pulp Ark Awards return. Now accepting nominations. I plan to submit some nominees and I hope you will too. Hopefully, some of my 2015 work will make the ballot.
Vote Today!
Bobby

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-
NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN FOR 2016 PULP ARK NEW PULP AWARDS!
Pulp Ark, a convention focusing on New Pulp Fiction and Culture, was held from 2011 to 2013. In 2015, Pulp Ark returned as a major component of the River City Comic Expo in Little Rock, AR. A primary part of Pulp Ark for its first three years were The Pulp Ark Awards, fan voted awards for Genre Fiction defined as New Pulp.
According to Tommy Hancock, founder and coordinator of Pulp Ark and the Awards, The Pulp Ark New Pulp Awards are continuing in 2016 and will be awarded at the River City Comic Expo June 11-12, 2016 in Little Rock, AR.
“It feels right,” says Hancock, “to return the Awards to their association with Pulp Ark, especially with the successful return of the convention in a slightly new form in 2015. We’ve reviewed the slate of awards given in the past and have reduced the number for a variety of reasons, and although we may add removed awards back or even new categories at a later date, we feel like the awards offered are comprehensive for the state of New Pulp today. Pulp Ark was conceived to bring the best and brightest creators to the public’s attention and the Awards proved then and will again prove to be one of the best possible ways to do just that.”
Nominations for the 2016 Pulp Ark New Pulp Awards are now open and will close at 5 PM CST on February 1, 2016. Anyone can nominate in any of the available categories for work that was published in 2015, either in print, ebook form, or in an established internet venue, such as an e-magazine. Postings on personal blogs do not qualify.
All nominations that are made that fit the qualifications of New Pulp will be placed on the final ballot, regardless of the number of nominations any one work or individual receives. NO CREATOR MAY NOMINATE HIM/HERSELF OR HIS/HER WORK FOR A PULP ARK NEW PULP AWARD. Publishers may, however, nominate works from their own publishing houses as long as the Publisher is not a writer or artist involved in the nominated work. This is also a change from previous years.
To determine if a work or creator qualifies for these awards the definition for works that qualify is as follows-New Pulp is fast-paced, plot-oriented storytelling of a linear nature with clearly defined, larger than life protagonists and antagonists, creative descriptions, clever use of turns of phrase and other aspects of writing that add to the intensity and pacing of the story.
Hancock also states, “Every year we held the awards, we received nominations that, due to the subjective way that New Pulp is defined, might be questionable in terms of qualifying as New Pulp. As we have done in the past with the Awards, there will be a selected committee of 4-5 New Pulp creators who will, when such questions arise, be consulted to determine inclusion of said work as a nomination.”
The only works eligible for the 2016 New Pulp Awards are those produced between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015. Anyone can make a nomination and anyone that makes a nomination will receive a ballot on February 2nd and voting will be open until 5 PM CST on February 17, 2016. Also, ballots will be posted on the Pulp Ark New Pulp Awards 2016 Facebook page and available for anyone who wishes to cut and paste and email the ballot to PulpArkNewPulpAwards2016@yahoo.com.
The Categories open for Nomination until 5 PM CST February 1, 2016, are as follows.
