1980's Flash Gordon holds a place of esteem in the annals of sci-fi cinema. Not because of Max von Sydow's spectacular portrayal of Ming the Merciless. Not for the electric soundtrack by masters of rock Queen. Not even for the heart-quickening sights of Timothy Dalton in tights and Brian Blessed in leather panties. No, Flash Gordon is part of an elite group of movies that shaped the very persona of the founder of Needless Things, Dave West. This prestigious group includes such classics as Swamp Thing,Alligator, and Robert Altman's Popeye. These were just a few of the movies available on the broadcast marvel known as HBO during Dave's formative years.

HUNTSVILLE COMIC CONVENTION CANCELLATION!

Due to an unforeseen financial hiccup, I have had to cancel my appearance at the Huntsville Comic Convention in Huntsville, Alabama this weekend. Sincere apologies to those who were expecting to see me there.. I look forward to seeing everyone's photos from the con. Nathan, Wes, and Marc put on one helluva show. You definitely should check it out. There are several great writer and artist guests on hand as well as the savior of the universe, Flash Gordon himself, Mr. Sam Jones. There's even a Flash Gordon screening on Thursday with Sam that'll be big fun.
