MY CONNOOGA 2014 PANEL SCHEDULE

My bio in the 2014 downloadable Program Guide

From Con Nooga 2013 with
Andrea Judy and Sean Taylor.
I will be a guest this weekend at ConNooga (February 21 - 23) in Chattanooga, TN.

Always a fun show, the ConNooga Literary Track is incredible and I’m honored to once again be part of it. My panel schedule was released today. If you’re at the con, please stop by and say hello. I will also have a table somewhere in the dealer’s room with books to show off and hopefully sell so I can cover my hotel bill for the weekend.

BOBBY NASH'S CON NOOGA 2014 PANEL SCHEDULE:
4:00 PM Fri   Con Center #15        Panel: Writing Believable Dialogue
10:00 AM Sat   Con Center #15        Panel: Writing for Graphic Novels
1:00 PM Sat   Con Center #15        Panel: Pulp Fiction - What is it?
5:00 PM Sat   Con Center #15        Panel: The Writing Life and What it Takes
8:00 PM Sat   Choo Choo  Gallery B   Plot or Die! It's a no-holds-barred Plot Off!
11:00 AM Sun   Con Center #17        Panel: Writing Opening Lines and Hooks

My 2013 table
All of these sound like fun panels and I’m looking forward to being on them. The highlight of last year’s con was the Saturday night “Plot or Die!” panel. Doing a plot off with the other writers in attendance was the most fun and most laughs I had the entire weekend, especially once everyone started trying to one up the others. If you can join us for that, I promise you will not be disappointed.

My Earth Station One/Earth Station Who cohorts will also be on hand for a live recording on Saturday at 3 pm at the Convention Center in room #13. The panel/recording is called “Introducing Peter Capaldi/Reviewing Matt Smith” and I will probably be sitting in on that one as well, time and space permitting, of course.

You can learn more about Con Nooga here. Plus, keep up with them on Facebook and Twitter. The Con Nooga Lit Track can also be found on Twitter as well.

Looking forward to seeing you at the con.

NOOGA! NOOGA! NOOGA!

So nice to have a restocked convention table again. Also, the return of the dead guy outline.

I spent the weekend at the Con Nooga convention in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

I had a fantastic time at the convention. I would like to take this moment to say a big ol’ thank you to all the great folks who stopped by my table and the panels I was one to say hello. I’d also like to thank Robby Hilliard and his staff for running an absolutely fantastic literary track.

Bobby & the ESO Mikes.
Here was my Con Nooga Panel schedule--

NOON - Plotter or Pantser? Using Outlines - Pros and Cons - discussion and workshop
1:00PM - Social Media - Platform: dos and don't for writing
3:00PM - So You Want To Be a Writer?
8:00 PM - What's My Plot? A No Holds-Barred Plot off! Challenge our authors with an idea and see who comes up with the best plot! (The most fun I think I had all weekend)

Sunday
12:00 PM - Writing Believable Dialog - discussion and workshop

All of them were gems and I, along with the other guests had some great conversations on the panels. Speaking of the other guests, I can’t say enough good things about the great folks I got to hang out with this weekend. As always, I had a great time with my Earth station One cohorts, Mike Gordon and Mike and Judy Faber. Plus, my frequent con-neighbor and Ruby Files co-creator, Sean (the love monkey -don’t ask. You had to be there) Taylor, con-daughter Charis Taylor, John Hartness, Andrea Judy, Stephen Zimmer, M. B. Weston, James R. Tuck, Dan Jolley, Shane Berryhill, Ed Crandell, D. A. Lewis, Michael D’ambriosio, D. A. Adams, Lysa Shin, K. S. THE NEXT BIG THING BLOG TOUR STRIKES AGAIN!

The Next Big Thing Virtual Blog Tour rolls on. I participated in this blog tour back in September and had a great time with it. I was thrilled to have been tagged by a few different authors to join the fun again. You can read my original Next Big Thing post here.

Special thanks to authors Selah Janel, Nancy Holder, and David Wood for each tagging me. Please visit their blogs as well to see how they answered the New Big Thing questions.

And now, on with the show...

Rules of the Next Big Thing
***Use this format for your post
***Answer the ten questions about your current WIP (work in progress)
***Tag five other writers/bloggers and add their links so we can hop over and meet them.

Ten Interview Questions for the Next Big Thing:

What is your working title of your book?
BN: I’m currently putting the finishing touches on an as yet untitled Domino Lady novel for Moonstone Books new thriller novel line.

Where did the idea come from for the book?
BN: Moonstone publisher, JoeGentile, asked me if I was interested in writing a pulpy political thriller starring Domino Lady and I said “Yes!” immediately. In the original Domino Lady series from the 1930s, Rob Wyatt was a character Domino Lady locked horns with who had ambitions to be Governor of California. That story was never told. When I started writing Domino Lady stories for Moonstone I would mention Wyatt and his desire to be Governor, although it was never the main plot.

When Joe said pulpy political thriller, Rob Wyatt was the first thing that popped into my head. It’s like I had been subconsciously planting the seeds for this story since writing “Target: Domino Lady” for the Moonstone anthology a few years back. I love it when serendipity happens.

What genre does your book fall under?
BN: Domino Lady is pulp and a political thriller all rolled into one.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
BN: I have always thought that Jeri Ryan would make a great Domino Lady, especially after seeing Dan Brereton’s cover to Domino Lady Vs. Mummy. I think she would be perfect as both socialite party girl Ellen Patrick and sultry adventuress Domino Lady. I could also see Jeri Ryan pulling off the 1930's Hollywood glamorous look.

Rob Wyatt has to look like a politician and a movie star who has a way with the ladies, but can also turn sinister. I think George Clooney certainly fits the bill. He doesn't play the bad guy often, but I think he has the acting chops to pull it off.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
BN: When gubernatorial candidate Douglas Hart is assassinated, Domino Lady makes it her mission to bring his murderers to justice.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
BN: Neither. The Domino Lady novel will be published by Moonstone Books as part of their new Moonstone Thrillers line.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
BN: It took a couple of months to get the first draft down. I worked on the novel in spurts around other deadlines.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
BN: Good question. I really haven’t thought about comparisons before. I don’t have any examples off the top of my head. Obviously, there are a lot of other pulp stories and political thrillers out there. I would hope that Domino Lady can compare to them.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?
BN: It all started when the publisher asked if I was interested in writing a pulp political thriller. From there I started putting ideas together and we were off.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
BN: I try very hard to make sure that my Domino Lady stories remain part of the same narrative that has gone before. By that, I mean that my Domino Lady is the same Domino Lady that appeared in the original 1930’s tales, but is also the same character that has been appearing in Moonstone Books titles as well. That sometimes means bringing in the supporting characters from those tales, or acknowledging things that happen in those stories when appropriate.

The Domino Lady novel will be available in 2013 with a cover by Douglas Klauba.

As part of the Next Bog Thing Blog Tour, I have to tag five writers as well.
I am tagging Paul Bishop, Van Allen Plexico, Dan Jolley, Martin Powell, and Barry Reese. Check their sites to see their answers to these questions.

Thanks for reading.

Bobby
