MEET THE THRILLER AUTHOR PODCAST PRESENTS... BOBBY NASH

I sat down with author Alan Petersen on Thrilling Reads' Meet The Thriller Author podcast. We had a great time talking thrillers and I hope you'll give it a listen here.

It's Tuesday, time to meet a new author! In this week's podcast, I interview Bobby Nash. Bobby not only writes thrillers he's written comic books, graphic novels, screenplays, media tie-ins (including The Green Hornet!) and more. He's also acted and appeared as an extra with Kevin Bacon (giving him a Bacon number of one in Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon). We chat about all that and more, so click below to listen to the latest episode of Meet the Thriller Author.

You can give it a listen here.

Thanks again for a fun interview, Alan.

NASH FACT!

The ever-talented Mike Gordon sent this my way to celebrate my blink or you'll miss it moment in the pilot episode of FOX's The Following and I had to share. Absolutely brilliant.

Nash Fact: The "Ice Pick" girl in The Following pilot was actually a Bobby Nash fanatic who suddenly appeared on set to proclaim her intense devotion to the author. The producers and crew were so freaked out by the incident, they decided to include it in the episode. Attached is a photo of the original writings she had on her person before they were edited in post.

Thanks, pal.

This one didn't come out like I'd hoped so I scrapped it.

CATCHING A KILLER!

It's blurry, but it's me standing behind Kevin Bacon.
Bobby as Agent Edwards
I hope everyone caught my brief, but blurry moment on FOX's The Following last night. No worries, if you missed it, FOX is re-airing the pilot on Friday, January 25th. Plus, I'm posting the photos here. I also saw my car in the parking lot of the command center, which was cool. Plus, I was on set for many of the scenes in the pilot, even if you don't see me.

Created and written by Kevin Williamson (Scream, The Vampire Diaries), The Following stars Kevin Bacon (he of 6 degrees of... fame) in his first starring role in a TV series, along with James Purefoy as serial killer/cult leader, Joe Carroll (Rome). Also part of the cast are Natalie Zea (Justified), Jeananne Goossen (Alcatraz), and Billy Brown (Sons of Anarchy), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), and Maggie Grace (Taken).

In The Following, I played FBI Special Agent Robert Edwards (I got to come up with my characters name for the FBI badge and ID. I'm pretty sure I'll have him show up  in one of the Harold Palmer thriller novels down the road. Not sure if there's space for him in Evil Intent as it's well into its story, but you never know. Characters have a strange way of showing up where we least expect them. Just ask Sheriff Tom Myers, who appears in three novels I've written (one, the aforementioned Evil Intent, is still in process) and I've got an idea for a solo story for him as well. Not bad for a character that, when originally created, was never going to be used more than once. The mark of a good character, when he won't let you forget him.

Meanwhile, I'm into day two of my new day job. I feel very lucky to work with some very friendly people and so far so good. Still a bit to learn and took the plant tour today, which was nice. The company bottles perfumes and aerosol products so I spend my days talking about perfume, which is a new experience for me.

And here's my desk, which I'm getting set up.

Well, it's been a long day and I'm beat. Going to catch up with some TV shows on the DVR and veg.

Later.

TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT. ARE YOU READY FOR THE FOLLOWING?

Bobby Nash as Special Agent Robert Edwards on The Following
I am very excited for the premiere of The Following starring Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy on FOX tonight. I was on set for three days playing an FBI Agent and got hooked on the story so I'm excited to see how it plays out.

The photo above is me as FBI Special Agent Robert Edwards (a character I created and named so he might just show up in one of the Harold Palmer novels) backstage of the command center set.

OBSESSED?

I was actually there when they filmed the scene the attached photo is from. I'm sitting at a desk on the other side of the door (just out of sight, naturally). I am very excited for the premiere of The Following starring Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy on FOX this coming Monday. I was on set for three days playing an FBI Agent and got hooked on the story so I'm excited to see how it plays out.

THE FOLLOWING

l-r: Ashmore, Goossen, Bacon, Purefoy, Zea, Catlett
I was fortunate enough to work as an extra on the pilot for the new FOX series, The Following starring Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy, among others. The show has been added to FOX’s 2013 mid-season lineup on Mondays at 9 p.m.

I had a fun time playing an FBI agent for three days on this one. I just made out a very blurry image of myself in the background in the trailer. I was on hand for several scenes shown in the trailer. You can watch the trailer below or at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8H4ewQzKFM

From what I’ve seen so far, this looks like it’s going to be a good series. I’m looking forward to watching.

Bobby

The Following:

THE FBI estimates there are currently over 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances across the country? What if one brilliant psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a following?

Agent Robert Edwards
Welcome to THE FOLLOWING, the terrifying new thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson ("The Vampire Diaries," "Dawson's Creek," the "Scream" franchise).

When notorious serial killer JOE CARROLL (James Purefoy, "Rome") escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree, the FBI calls former agent RYAN HARDY (Emmy-nominated actor Kevin Bacon, "X-Men: First Class," "Frost/Nixon") to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll's capture nine years ago, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on the Virginia college campus where he taught literature.

Hardy is a walking textbook of all-things Carroll. He knows him better than anyone; he is perhaps Carroll's only psychological and intellectual match. But the Ryan Hardy who broke the Carroll case years ago isn't the same man today. Wounded both physically and mentally by his previous pursuit of this serial killer, it's been a long time since Hardy has been in the field. This investigation is his redemption, his call to action.

In contrast to nine years ago, Hardy isn't calling the shots on this case. He works closely with an FBI team, which includes all-business and tough-as-nails JENNIFER MASON (Jeananne Goossen, "The Vow," ALCATRAZ) and young, razor-sharp MIKE WESTON (Shawn Ashmore, "X-Men"). The team considers Hardy to be more of a liability than an asset. But Hardy proves his worth when he uncovers that Carroll was covertly communicating with a network of killers in the outside world. It quickly becomes obvious that he has more planned than just a prison escape, and there's no telling how many additional killers are out there.

Bobby Nash as Agent Edwards
The FBI's investigation leads Hardy to CLAIRE MATTHEWS (Natalie Zea, "Justified"), Carroll's ex-wife and mother of the criminal's 10-year-old son, JOEY (newcomer Kyle Catlett). Close during Hardy's initial investigation, Hardy turns to Claire for insight into Carroll's next move. The tension rises when Carroll's accomplices kidnap his intended last victim from nine years ago. Hardy becomes ever more determined to end Carroll's game when he realizes that the psychopath intends to finish what he started.

The thriller will follow Hardy and the FBI as they are challenged with the ever-growing web of murder around them, masterminded by the devious Carroll, who dreams of writing a novel with Hardy as his protagonist. The reinvigorated Hardy will get a second chance to capture Carroll, as he's faced with not one, but a cult of serial killers.

THE FOLLOWING is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Outerbanks Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. The series is created, written and executive-produced by Kevin Williamson. Marcos Siega ("Dexter," "The Vampire Diaries") also serves as an executive producer and directed the pilot.

MEET FBI AGENT ROBERT EDWARDS

FBI Special Agent Robert Edwards
I wish I had been able
 to keep my FBI I.D.
I was fortunate enough to work as an extra on the currently untitled Kevin Williamson penned pilot starring Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Jeananne Goossen, Natalie Zea, Shawn Ashemore, and Billy Brown. I can't say much about the plot or what was filmed as the prduction company likes us to keep that stuff under wraps, but here's what IMDB says about the show--

[UKWP] centers on a diabolical serial killer who uses technology to create a cult of serial killers, and the FBI agent who finds himself in the middle of it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2071645/

I had a fun three days on set. The actors, cast, and crew were all very friendly and we had some fun and a few laughs. I also met some very interesting people on set including a real FBI Special Agent, a real S.W.A.T. Team officer, a boxer and MMA fighter, a rapper, actors, and writers. Meeting new creative people is always one of the great bonuses of doing this kind of work.

Props. My badge and gun.
We had three long days (there before the sun  came up and leaving after it set), but I had a blast. My character was an FBI Agent who is part of an inter-agency task force. I got to create my character's name, which was cool. I almost called him Harold Palmer after the FBI hero if my novel, Evil Ways and the upcoming evil Intent, but instead I named him Robert Edwards. This was one of those names I came up with years ago when I was considering pennames for my writing. It was a simple one, really. In many cases (although not in mine), Bobby is short for Robert. My middle name is edward. Hence, Robert Edwards.

Don't call him "Bob"
I had fun with the character and started jotting down some notes about him during downtime on the set. Since I am still working on Evil Intent, I think there's a very good chance you will meet FBI Special Agent Robert Edwards there. If he's like he was on the set, then he's always on the move and always in a hurry to get there. Every scene I was in had him hurrying from one place to another. One of the other extras referred to my character as "the hardest working man at the FBI." That made my day. I also played him kind of ruffled. Shirt was always a little rumpled, tie not cinched up tight (mainly because I hate wearing a tie).

As the show gets closer to air (I hope. It's a pilot so hopefully a network will pick it up) I'll disclose some more details, but for now I can leave you with a couple of photos of me at FBI Special Agent Robert Edwards.
