REMEMBER...

Remembering the Attack on Pearl Harbor on this December 7th.

A couple years back, I did a good bit of research on the attack and events leading up to it for an educational graphic novel. That project gave me a greater understanding of this infamous day in history.

Sigh...

I got accused of this so I want to state, for the record, that I do not pay for book reviews. Never have. Never will. I also do not pay for interviews or podcast appearances. I like reviews as much as the next writer, but I'm not going to pay for them. How can I trust a paid review?

Sorry for the mini-rant. Now back to your regularly scheduled social media, already in progress.

"AN EXCITING SERIES!" TOM MYERS' 'IN THE WIND' NABS A NEW 5 STAR READER REVIEW!

We Love Reader Reviews! Big thanks to Josh Hitch for the kind words and 5 Star Amazon review for In The Wind - A Tom Myers Mystery. You can read it HERE or below.

"An Exciting Adventure. Really enjoyed this novella length novel starring small town Sheriff Tom Myers. A safe house is put into use in his county but the FBI and the Marshals failed to tell him. When everything goes wring and the witness that was being guarded is in the wind along with several bad guys looking for him is when Myers finds out about it. He sets up his department to try and find the witness but that is easier said than done in such a large rural area. Plus there is a time limit since the bad guys want to shut up the witness permanently. Highly recommended, well written and fast paced. The characters are well done and Myers is an interesting mix of capable and I'm getting to old for this. Will definitely read what is next for Myers and crew."

Thanks again, Josh.

BURIED TREASURE...

I've been slowing going through my storage and getting rid of stuff cluttering up the garage. Today, I found a nice bit of lost treasure. Some of my college art projects, a button from the Harriette Austin Writers Conference (I really miss her), & copies of Evil Ways (7 paperback, 3 HC) from the original, less than great publisher 20 years ago. Does this make them collectors items? If anyone wants one, let me know. If not, back into storage they go. :)

It's amazing the stuff you find tucked away, huh?

FINDING THE MISSING PUZZLE PIECE...

I have a story still in the early process, just starting to come together. The main plot is there, but something is missing, a detail to tie it all together. Sometimes these little plot details are elusive. Last night, that piece of the puzzle fell into place, solving that plot problem. Now it's ready to cook. I love it when that happens. #AmWriting

MEET DEPUTY U.S. MARSHAL WILLIAM TEAGUE

Meet Deputy U.S. Marshal William Teague.

I'm currently on the 3rd draft of Nowhere To Run, featuring the return of Deputy U.S. Marshal William Teague, who previously appeared in Evil Intent and In The Wind. This is his first starring thriller novel and I'm having fun getting to know more about the character as the story unfolds. Teague is a dedicated lawman on the trail of Cyrus Drake, a known hijacker, kidnapper, and extortionist. A downed plane sends Teague to Black Mountain Pass in search of survivors and a fugitive on the run.

I originally wrote Nowhere To Run as a novella, but that required having a lot of story happen off the page. I'm now adding those scenes to make this adventure/thriller novel length, which I think will make it a better story. You can read the novella version on my Patreon page HERE by joining for as little as $1. More details to come. Stay tuned.

SPAM AND SCAM!

I get these scam promotion emails often. Most likely AI or bot generated. I generally just junk mail 'em, but today's made me laugh. It mixes Snow Island, Dante's Rebirth, and pulls a character named Lucy from... somewhere. Not from one of mine, I don't think. Oh, and it thinks Snow Island is a Christmas themed romance novel.

The only thing they got right was the title, Snow Island. Yeesh.

The real Snow Island is on-sale HERE if you're interested. Not hard to find. Just know it's an action/thriller NOT set at Christmas.

BREAKING INTO COMICS...

I was asked on social media to share the story of how I broke into comics. I thought you might enjoy it as well.

I sat down one Friday evening after work (this was in the late 90s) and emailed every publisher, big and small that had an email or contact button and introduced myself, showed some samples of my comic writing, and asked if they were open to submissions. Out of all of them I reached out to, I don't recall an actual number, but it was a lot, only one responded and told me that they were a small publisher and were sadly closing up shop.

A year later, I got an email from them again. One of their books had been picked up by another publisher and the scripter of the original decided not to continue with the book. The artist plotted the book and I was contacted and tried out for them. I worked on that book off and on for four years. Having a printed comic in hand helped open doors for me to talk to other publishers.

From there, I used my published work to talk to publishers. I still do that today. Like then, sometimes I get a response. Most of the time, I don't. I keep plugging away, creating comics I hope publishers will enjoy and think I might be a good fit for them.

Timing and luck certainly plays a role as much as talent and ability.

I also write more than comics. That diversity of publishing methods has come in handy. I was hired a couple of years ago to write crime comics because of my crime novels.

Thanks for letting me share.

LAST CALL!

There's only two events left on my 2025 Let Me tell You A Story Tour. November 29th and December 13th. Whew. It was a busy year. I was part of 37 in person events (so far). It would have been 41, but illness had me cancel 3 & lack of funds another. I'll close out 2025 with 39 in person events. A busy year.

I'm prepping a few ideas for my 2026 tour. Naming them is tough. Calling it the "Bobby's Too Tired To Travel Tour" or "Help Bobby Buy More Books Tour" doesn't have the same kind of kick. Any ideas?

ON THE ROAD AGAIN! TWO LIBRARY EVENTS!

Hi, there. I hope you're having a great weekend.

I had two events this week, one Friday and one Saturday.

On Friday, I was scheduled to present a free "How To Create Comic Books" presentation at the Watkinsville-Oconee Public Library in Watkinsville, Georgia. I've done events here before, but this was my first solo event there. Sadly, no one showed up for it so it didn't happen. Bummer, but it happens. It gave me a chance to chat with the librarian and catch up.

A funny aside. As I was packing up to leave, two college students approached me, asking if I was an author. One of them told me I looked like an author. I'm still not sure how to take that. :) They had a class assignment to learn about writing children's books, do's and don'ts, rules, etc. They came in and asked the lady at the information desk where they could find said information. She pointed them my way. So, if nothing else, I helped those guys with their assignment, which was pretty cool and unexpected. They took a photo with me and took a business card as proof of meeting me for their professor.

Since I was out early, I called some friends who live close by and had dinner with them so it was still a good day.

On Saturday, I traveled to Mabelton, Georgia to visit South Cobb Regional Library's Indie Author Book Fair. My first time at this particular library. It was a good time. I knew a few of the other authors there and met some new people as well. It was a bit slow, but they had maybe twenty people come through during the time we were there. I sold three books and a piece of art. Not a bad start for their first author event.

I love doing events and plan to keep doing them, but one of my goals for 2026 is to do fewer, but make sure I do the ones that work best for me. Of course, I say this every year. Hopefully, I can make it stick this time. I can already hear laughter in the distance. :)

While there, I heard an author say on a panel that she self-published because traditional publishing was too expensive. This has been rattling in my brain since I heard it. I'm sharing it here as I know there are writers who read these.

Just a reminder. If a publisher asks for money to publish your book, they are not a traditional publisher. If you have to pay to publish, that's a vanity or hybrid press. I'm not here to argue the merits of those options. If they're for you and you understand what you're getting into, that's your business. Just don't call it traditional publishing because it's not.

The only time I send money to my traditional publishers is if I want to buy discounted author copies for cons and events.

End of sermon.

I only have two more events this year. November 29th, I'm doing a bookstore signing for Small Business Saturday and December 13th, another library author fair. Should be fun.

I hope you have a great week.
