A BUSY WEEKEND FOR THE LET ME TELL YOU A STORY TOUR...

Books. Reader. Writers. Friends. I had a great weekend on the road at a couple of book events with friends both old (perhaps I should say classic) and new.

On Saturday, I was part of Gwinnett Co. Historic Courthouse's first Literary Arts Festival in Lawrenceville, GA. An outdoor venue. Not a huge sales day, but fun.

On Sunday, I was thrilled to return to Oconee County Library's Oconee Book Festival in Watkinsville, GA. Always a fun day. I sold, and purchased, some books, caught up with pals, and did a panel.

The Let Me Tell You A Story tour continues this Saturday at Inklings Writers Fall Collective at The Mill on Etowah in Canton, GA (1pm - 4pm). Learn more HERE.

There is no fee for this educational event! It is open to the public so bring your friends! The Collective will start off with 4-5 speakers with a question and answer session. Afterward, there will be plenty of time to mix and mingle, have some snacks, shit-chat, and get to know each other. Come listen to some wonderful speakers, meet other writers/artists and see what everyone has been up to!

Bobby's presentation is Promo isn't a four-letter word. Learn how to get the word out about your work on a budget. How do you do all those events? I get asked this often. We'll look at ways to find events to showcase your work, what you should bring with you, expectations, and the like.

A QUIET MIND...

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and the house is oddly quiet. In those rare moments, a calm settles over me. My mind rests and I'm relaxed, at peace. At least for a few minutes. Then, my mind disquiets and goes back to yammering at me like an overcaffeinated child. I've experienced this sensation a few times since I was a kid. Today, it happened at 3am. Ah!

It's a strange sensation. I have always been a weird sleeper. I wake up every few hours. Sometimes I go right back to sleep. More often than not, I don't. It's not great for getting rest, but I'm used to it. As a kid, I would wake in the wee hours and just lay there in the dark. For the most part, I enjoyed the quiet, but there were those moments when I woke and was convinced there were monsters standing at the edge of the bed behind me, just waiting for me to turn over so they could strike. I would lay there, pretending to sleep so they wouldn't attack. Not sure why my child's brain thought such logic plausible, but it is what it is.

Maybe these moments were the impetus of my desire to create, to tell stories. Oddly enough, I recently wrote a comic script that utilized the monsters standing by the bed motif. It was a spec script. Hopefully, the publisher will accept it. Fingers crossed.

THE WRAP UP-- DAHLONEGA LITERARY FESTIVAL'S NORTH GEORGIA REGIONAL BOOK FAIR!

I had a fun time at the Dahlonega Literary Festival's North Georgia Regional Book Fair at University of North Georgia Dahlonega Campus on Saturday, September 13th. The college put on a great show with a nice lineup, wonderful location, and good panels. The faculty and students were wonderful and very helpful. Unfortunately, attendance was very low. It happens. It was a bit slow and sales were light. I sold some art, but no books. Still, aside from slicing open my elbow on one of my book racks (ouch), I had a great day.

It’s WIP Wednesday! With the cover reveal of “Snow Island” this week, I thought I’d use this work-in-progress post to share the construction materials for the yacht and helicopter scene on the lower left part of the cover. This scene includes 3D models, full-body portraits of people, and quick digital paintings of the sky and ocean surface. Despite its simplicity, it is one of the most tense scenes in the book. No spoilers here, as I would never risk the wrath of Snow Investigations and Security. “Snow Island,” by author Bobby Nash, is set to be released later this fall from BEN Books, and I’ll post more updates here when it’s available. Bobby's story in this collection is called "The Last Flight of The Night Witch." 

Having assisted in the Vistula–Oder Offensive and made part of the major advance into German-held territory where the Red Army captured Kraków, Warsaw, and Poznań, the Night Witches, a squadron of all-female pilots, were scheduled to stand down and be disbanded. Ace pilot Yelena Olva disobeys orders for a mission of revenge against the German officer who had captured and tortured her months earlier. After overhearing a communique that the German officer is making overtures of collaborating with Allied Forces to bargain for his freedom, Yelena cannot let this monster live. Though she knows it means imprisonment at best and death at worst, she sets out to kill one last enemy before he makes his final escape.

THE WRAP UP-- SOUTHEAST FANDOM FEST!

I had an absolutely amazing time yesterday at Southeast Fandom Fair in Tifton, GA. The Zone Collectibles & More hosted the event. Big thanks to Kevin Clady and his team for putting on a great event and for the awesome gift bag of goodies. Oh, and feeding us. Truly, the way to a creator's heart. I had bourbon chicken and rice for lunch. Delicious.

The event printed up copies of my serialized story, Lance Star and the Ghost Squadron, which I wrote for their monthly newsletter to give away for free to attendees. I still have a few left and will continue sharing them at cons.

We had to get a photo of Bobapalooza with me, Bob McGough, and Robert Jeffrey. Or, as Bob called it, Pokemon Evolution. Photo taken by honorary Bob, author Megan Kuykendall. It was also great meeting author Darius Knight. A great guest line up. You should have been there. We had fun.
