SOMETIMES I GET ASKED STUFF... EPISODE 47!

And we're back for the 46th installment of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff… WOW. 47 of these things. Who woulda thunk it? You can check out all of the past installments of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff... hereIt's been quite a while since the last time I did one of these so let's dive right in, shall we?

Q: "To be a writer you must write everyday." Agree? Disagree? Just Don't Care?

It would be great to write every day. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don’t. Like any job, you need a day off every once in a while. I try to write every day, but sometimes I am not able to do that. This past week, for example, I wrote very little. This week, I'm writing more.

Q: How was your holiday weekend? Did you stuff yourself with turkey? ;) Did you get some writing done?

The Thanksgiving holiday was okay. I usually use it as a chance to catch up on movies I haven't seen. A little writing was accomplished, though not nearly enough. Family matters kept me occupied.

Q: If you had the choice for your novel to be a commercial success or a literary success which would you prefer?

Commercial. I still have bills to pay and a hankering to eat every now and again.

TONIGHT'S WRITING SPRINT...

Got in some writing tonight, which was a refreshing change of pace. Project is slowing moving forward. Hopefully, I can pick up speed as the week continues on. Right now, I think it's time to push away from the laptop. A little TV to unwind before I catch the last train to slumberville.

Sweet dreams.

CON CANCELLATION

I am sad to announce that I have had to cancel my appearance at the Nashville Comic Con 25th Anniversary Event at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds on December 8 - 9, 2018. I was looking forward to returning to Nashville after a few years away, but alas, fate and finances decided otherwise. If you're in the Nashville area, I recommend checking out this fun convention. They have an amazing guest list that includes some of my favorite people, who I am bummed that I will miss out on spending time with at the con.

Learn more at www.comiccitytn.com and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/nashvillecomicday and tell everyone hi for me.

FAKE BOBBY REVEALED!

There's a Fake Bobby Nash Facebook page out there sending out friend requests. It is not me. If you get a friend request from me, please delete it.

I have reported it, changed passwords, and all the other tedious nonsense required when this crap happens.

I only have 2 Facebook pages. My personal page and my Author page. The same information is posted to both. The personal page has reached its maximum friend limit.

DEADLY GAMES! GETS NEW 4 STAR REVIEW ON GOODREADS!

A super huge thank you to author Adam Mitchell for his kind 4 STAR Goodreads review of my novel, DEADLY GAMES! I'm honored by the comparison to Lawrence Block. Glad you enjoyed the book. You can read Adam's full review HERE and below.

THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN NO SPOILERS SORRY!
Well what can I say about this book, there's twists galore in this read, i managed to knock it during a train journey and well it kept me going through the madness of platform changes, and worse...other passengers! What stuck me most was the writing style maybe its just me but Nash has a very 'Lawrence Block' vibe to his writing, which is nice to see now Crime and Thriller fiction in my eyes is becoming very linear and placid at times. In fact at times if i didn't know this was a Bobby Nash book i could have swore the characters stepped out of a Block book and into the pages of Nash's fictional world. So yes the characters were stars of the book, but it was the pace and edge to the writing that sold it for me.

Get this copy now i will say for my taste it's a tad pricey but then again, it's worth every penny be it a kindle copy or extra special paperback. So on the whole WELL DONE!

Deadly Games! is available in paperback and on your Kindle at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other on-line retailers. You can read Deadly Games! for FREE with your Kindle Unlimited subscription.

BOBBY JOINS THE NERDY LASER TO DISCUSS THE ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS MOVIE... DIE HARD!

I joined my pals, Richard Ewell and John Morgan "Bat" Neal on The Nerdy Laser podcast to discuss what is probably the greatest Christmas movie of all time. That's right, we're talking DIE HARD!!!!

The Nerdy Laser Podcast- Die Hard: A Christmas Movie!
On this episode of the Nerdy Laser I am joined with a few friends to discuss one of our favorite action Christmas movies of all time, Die Hard! Some consider it a Christmas movie, some don’t but its hard to argue how good this movie is. Bruce Willis goes from Moonlighting to Dying Hard and Alan Rickman amazingly enough makes his film debut as one of the greatest movie villains of all time!

Nerdy Laser is the coolest podcast in Bayside! Your host Richard Ewell takes you on a trip through the nerdy rabbit hole that is pop culture. One of the focuses is the nineties which is close to Richard’s nerddom but nothing is off limits. He has a variety of guests that come on to share their knowledge and love for any subject from 90’s soundtracks to Jurassic Park. Give us a listen and remember, keep it nerdy.

You can listen to the full episode HERE.

Of course, I can';t talk Die Hard without hearing this song playing in my head.

Keep it nerdy!

TONIGHT'S WRITING AND A TEASE...

I haven't written much of anything in the last week. There were a few reasons for this. I threw my back out, was not sleeping well, a little depressed, my dad was under the weather and had a few doctor visits, that sort of thing. Basically, real life stomped on my creative life. It happens.

Tonight, I was able to sit down for a short sprint and added a good thousand words to a story as well as worked on the plot for it as well. The villain had been a little fuzzy for me, but I finally figured out not only who the villain is, but also why the villain is doing what he is doing. Knowing that, is a big weight off my shoulders.

Hopefully, real life will not stomp as hard going into this week and I can continue to be productive.

R.I.P. STAN LEE!

I am saddened to hear the news that Stan Lee has died. I did not know Mr. Lee personally, although I did meet him briefly a couple of times at conventions. My memory of those encounters was of a man of boundless energy and a love for comic books that was infectious. Of course, growing up as a comic book fan, I knew Stan's name. As a Spider-man fan, I remember seeing and hearing his opening narration for several animated shows. Stan's legacy endures and the characters he helped create will keep his memory alive. Rest in Peace, Stan. Excelsior!

SOMETIMES I GET ASKED STUFF... EPISODE 46!

And we're back for the 46th installment of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff… WOW. 46 of these things. Who woulda thunk it? You can check out all of the past installments of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff... hereIt's been quite a while since the last time I did one of these so let's dive right in, shall we?

Q: What inspired you to write your first story/novel?

There was this urge to tell the story and I wanted to see if I could do it.

Q: Why do so many writers care about the small and irrelevant things, [ex] Page count , and font to name a few? Quality not quantity. Writing is a way to express your views, to open and build worlds. If you want a short story to have 2 pages, great! If you want the same story to have 50 pages , awesome! But it shouldn't matter how long it is, how many words it contains. It should be the quality of immersion of the world. Word choices don't truly matter , nor does even word correctness , ( Think of Shakespere , who invented words and slang ), just write. Worry about the small things after you are happy.

I can't speak for all writers, but I work for publishers. Those publishers set the word count based on pages and cost to the reader. If I want to write for publishers, then I have to tell the story within their guidelines. If writing is your hobby and you are doing it for fun, then by all means, do whatever you want. If your goal is to be published and your books distributed for sale, there are guidelines that you have to adhere to if you want to make that goal a reality.

Q: Are you interested in creating characters that reflect your political beliefs? Should you create characters that reflect your political beliefs?

I try to avoid politics because it never ends well. Politics makes even the nicest of people turn into raging assholes, no matter which end of the political spectrum they fall.

That said, I write thrillers, sometimes political thrillers, and when writing about politicians, politics will be discussed. My job is to be as honest as possible. I'm not here to preach or push an agenda. I'm here to entertain.

A LITTLE BLAST FROM THE PAST...

Here's a fun blast from the past. Yin Yang, a graphic novel written by me with art by Luis Rivera. Luis and I created a whole universe of super heroes and villains basically for this funeral scene, which lasts 3 or 4 pages. Luis' artwork is amazing and he really captured what we wanted in this scene,

Arcana still has copies in paperback and ebook. https://arcanacomics.com/titles/yin-yang

TODAY'S WRITING...

Today was a good writing day. I wrote a little over 3,000 words, put the final polish on a novella and got it sent off to the publisher for edits, and even did a little admin work. Definitely a good creative day.

Writing THE END is always a great feeling. I completed the polish on Hunter Houston: Horror Hunter Book 1 "Hunter Houston and the Molten Menace" and it is now off to Falstaff Books to start the editing process. I've already started on book 2 and am enjoying the villain in it, but before I can dive into it full force, I have another novel to complete that re-imagines an old pulp character in modern day. So far, I'm having fun with it.

'night, all.
