THE WRAP UP-- COLUMBUS COMIC AND TOY CON!

I had a great time at the Columbus Comic and Toy Con at the Coca-Cola Space Science Center in Columbus, GA on Sunday, February 25th. Guests for the event included Chris Garrett, Paul Maitland Art, Doug DeTar, and Bobby Nash. My carpool buddy, Michael Gordon also joined me at my table with copies of Earth Station One's Tales of the Station anthologies.

I would like to thank Dutch Cummings for putting on a fun con, my fellow guests and dealers with stuff I spend way too much money on, and everyone who stopped by my table for making today a fun day. To those who stopped by to say hello, it was a pleasure to meet you. To those who bought books, a BIG THANK YOU! I also met a few first time con-goers and it's always nice welcoming them into the fold. I'd also like to thank Molly Simkins for the dragon sketch card she drew for me (photo attached).

It was great being back in Columbus. If you've never been, they hold this convention two times a year and the space science center is also fun to visit.

BOBBY'S WHITE BOARD-- TO DO 2018!

I updated my 2018 writing projects list today. It's blurry by design to keep some things secret. There are also a couple of unconfirmed items not yet added to the list so expect it to be amended eventually. Looks like a busy year. I better get to work, huh?

SKETCHING FOR CHARITY

Hey, Tennessee fans, it's been a while since my last visit to a con in your great state so please join me on March 10th in Gray, TN for the Tri-Cities Toy and Hobby Show. I will have books on hand for sale and will also be doing sketches with proceeds going to the convention's charity of choice, Coalition for Kids.

From the Tri-Cities Toy and Hobby Show Facebook page:
I am excited to announce that author extraordinaire Bobby Nash will be our guest at the Tri-Cities Toy and Hobby Show on March 10th at the Appalachian Fairgrounds. If you are not familiar with his work, please check out his website bobbynash.com. In addition to being a writer, he is also a very good artist and will be doing sketches with the money going to Coalition for Kids. I hope that everyone will help support a great charity. Please help by volunteering at the show, donating items to sell, sharing my post, offering suggestions to better the show or any other way that you can think of. Thank you everyone and may God bless you.

See you at the con.

Exciting news for Rick Ruby fans.

Creators Nash and Taylor
Not only is The Ruby Files Vol. 3 of the anthology series in production, but there is an all-new The Ruby Files novel in the works as well. Sean Taylor and I have signed off on the plot and the writer is excited to dive in and get started.

Airship 27 Productions' Ron Fortier shared the following statement on social media:
If you are a Rick Ruby fan and enjoyed our first two anthologies, then you are in for a treat. There is a full length Rick Ruby novel now in the works by one of our Airship 27 writers. Can't say much more right now, don't want to give it all away just yet, but it has been officially sanctioned by creators Bobby Nash and Sean Taylor.

I'll share more information here and at the Official Rick Ruby site as soon as it is announced.

The Ruby Files Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 are still available in paperback, ebook, and audio formats.

Earth Station Who podcast episode 178

About Earth Station Who episode 178:
Why has it taken so long for the award-winning author Bobby Nash to join Mike, Mike, and Mary on ESW? Turns out he was stuck in traffic. Much like the Tenth Doctor and Martha in New New York. Give it a listen HERE.

We want to hear from you! Please write us at eswpodcast@gmail.com. Also, please subscribe and rate the show on iTunes, Stitcher Radio, Google Plus, or wherever fine podcasts are found. Feedback is always welcome and much appreciated.

SUPERHEROES AND SUPERSTARS

Captain Nash: Hero for Hire
I took a road trip to Greenville,SC with my buddy, Mike Gordon today. We visited a couple of cool comic shops and then made a stop at the Superheroes and Superstars: The Works of Alex Ross exhibit at Forman University's Upcountry History Museum. Sadly, photos of the original art was prohibited so here's the sign and me at the photo backdrop and a few odds and ends outside of the exhibit.

The exhibit runs through June 3, 2018.

Love the look of these doors.

I thought I was being Hawkeye until I noticed the Bat-symbol.

While in Greenville, we popped into Borderlands Comics for their annual big sale. Nice crowds on a drizzly Saturday.

It's also always great visiting with Richard's Comics when I'm in Greenville.

Mike Gordon
It's Clobberin' Time! I picked up some cool stuff today featuring everybody's favorite blue-eyed Thing.

DERRICK FERGUSON GOES 5 ROUNDS WITH BAREFOOT BONES!

A big Thank You to my friend, Derrick Ferguson for his kind words about Fightcard: Barefoot Bones. You can read Derrick's thoughts in their entirety HERE.

THIS IS HOW IT STARTS: If the daytime Soap Opera ever makes a comeback, Bobby Nash could give up writing thrillers, New Pulp action adventures, science fiction and make a good living writing for them.

This was a tough book to write. I loved doing it, but boy do I put "Bones" through hell in this story. Finally, my M*A*S*H knowledge paid off. It came in handy when writing 1951 Korea. Ha! Ha!

THE RUBY FILES VOL. 1 GET 5 STARS ON GOODREADS!

Big thanks to Author and Patron Darrell Grizzle for his 5 STAR review of The Ruby Files vol. 1 at GoodReads. Thanks, pal. Read the full review HERE.

"A missing-person case is neatly wrapped up, but then things take a turn for the worse when a dead body is found in the snow. That’s “The Case of the Wayward Brother” by Bobby Nash, one of four stories in this book featuring Rick Ruby, a tough-talking ex-cop turned private eye. Fans of film noir and two-fisted action will love this collection. Pulp fiction at its finest!"

SOMETIMES I GET ASKED STUFF... EPISODE 45!

And we're back for the 45th installment of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff…
You can check out all of the past installments of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff... here.
Let's dive right in, shall we?

Q: Why do you write?

The ideas keep coming and I need to get them out. Plus, I love the challenge of crafting a story, getting to know characters, and hopefully entertain readers.

Q: HOWS YOUR YEAR GOING? Are you where you want to be yet? How does next year look? Too early?

It's not been a good year for many reasons, not all of which are writing-related and most of which I won't go into here, but things start to turn around. On the writing side of things, last year has been just okay. I have fallen behind on deadlines due to the things I didn't go into detail on, but I am working on catching up. My output has been less than previous years, but new books do come out. I'm already booking writing gigs for publishers into 2018.

Q: What are your 2018 writing plans/goals?

At least 8 novels/novellas and a graphic novel are on the schedule to write, plus stuff already at the publishers waiting their release. There are other plans in place as well. Hopefully, I can write more comics.

HE SAID, SHE SAID: ELMORE LEONARD'S WRITING TIPS

Elmore Leonard is one of the great novelists of our time (everyone should go out and watch all 7 seasons of Justified right now. Go ahead. I'll wait) and he had some good guidelines for writing fiction. I agree with all but one of the tips listed above. Using "said" only is dull. When I need a piece of dialogue to stand out, something other than "said" happens. I use it sparingly and for effect, but knowing when to break this 'rule' comes in handy.

Justified. Now on DVD.
An example:

"Get back here," Tom said.

"Get back here!" Tom shouted.

I try not to use other tags often so when I use something like 'shouted', it stands out.

What do you think, writers and readers? Do you agree or disagree with Elmore's tips? Please, let me know and tell me why. What works for you?

ATVFEST 2018 PRESENTS ASH VS. EVIL DEAD AND BLACK LIGHTNING!

Bruce Campbell
I was able to head down to SCAD Atlanta for the 2018 SCADShow aTVFest for the panels for Ash Vs. Evil Dead on Friday and Black Lightning on Saturday. Both panels were fun and we got to see upcoming episodes. The first episode of Ash vs. Evil Dead season 3 (premiered Feb. 25 on Starz) and Black Lightning episode 4 (airs Tuesday, Feb. 7 on The CW). Both panels then had Q and A sessions with the casts. It was a fun time.

Apologies for the less than stellar photos. All I had was my camera phone and I wasn't close to the stage at any point. A fun time was had. I highly recommend both shows. There are more photos on my social media pages.
