WHEN INSPIRATION STRIKES... AT THE WRONG TIME!

Do not attempt to adjust your monitor. It's blurry on purpose.
Well, hello there sci fi novella series idea. So nice to make your acquaintance. Unfortunately, I cannot stop what I'm doing to work on you and your freshly formed stories because, y'know, deadlines and stuff. I'll just jot down your deets and get back to you later, okay? Cool. It's a date. A later date.

#InspirationStrikesAtTheMostInopportuneMoments #inspirationstrikes #deadlines #amwriting
Or, as my buddy, Mike likes to say-- #ProlificProblems

I love it when inspiration strikes, but it always seems to happen at the most inopportune moments. I've added these notes to the to do file and have added this to my open projects board so I can get it scheduled. It's been a while since I did a sci fi story. This new idea has me excited. Hopefully, it will still be as exciting when I can get to it.

PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE SERIES SCALED BACK! FROM THE PEN OF BOBBY NASH SERIES DISCONTINUED!

Cover Art: Jeffrey Hayes
New Pulp Publisher, Pro Se Productions has made some changes to their Pro Se Single Shot Signature Series line. The line, which includes FREELANCER: THE TRAVELER SANCTION and CRIMSON MOON by Bobby Nash will not continue on in its original form.

I enjoyed my two Pro Se Single Shot Signature Series stories and there were plans for more to come. My contract called for 4 a year. With this announcement, those plans are on indefinite hold. It is possible they may resurface in the future, but for now there are no definitive plans going forward. It is my understanding that the two ebooks I wrote, FREELANCER: THE TRAVELER SANCTION and CRIMSON MOON will remain available for purchase from Pro Se Productions.

Pro Se’s Single Shots will continue and I hope you will check out what they have to offer. There are some good bite-sized stories coming from them soon.

Below is the press release announcement from Pro Se.

Bobby

PRESS RELEASE:

PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE SERIES SCALED BACK-SEVERAL SERIES MOVING TO BOOK FORMAT

In 2013, Pro Se Productions began a digital only line of stand alone short stories known as Pro Se Single Shots. In 2014, Pro Se announced a new imprint within the line, this one aimed at producing series that would have episodes/stories released on a schedule suitable to the author. Over 40 writers signed on initially and Pro Se’s intent was to focus on turning this program into a subscription service, offering this variety of titles.

Today, Pro Se Productions announces that due to a variety of issues, The Pro Se Single Shot Signature Series line will not continue on in its original form and will be massively scaled back.

“In all honesty,” says Pro Se Editor in Chief Tommy Hancock, “the responsibility for this change of plans in regards to the Single Shot series falls wholly on me, as does any fault for why the line did not reach the goals we originally set. It was an overly ambitious project that still might have reached its original goals had I not become ill, a condition that I dealt with for a large part of the last three years. I had built the Single Shot line to be one that I would handle exclusively and when I was unavailable, it left no one to keep it going.

“Even though,” Hancock continues, “I am healthy now, there were still issues with the concept as originally conceived. Finding a formatter who can essentially do thirty some odd titles monthly as well as building or finding a subscription plan we felt comfortable with has proven difficult. The biggest reason, though, is we have multiple series that simply have lingered on too long without new issues or have not started at all, and I just won’t have that any longer.”

The series that will continue as Pro Se Single Shot Signature Series are Chuck Miller’s Fabulous World of Zenith, Ian Watson’s limited series Byzantium, Tommy Hancock’s The Adventures of Doc Daye, and the as of yet to debut mini series, Tai of the Ebony Jungle by Philip Athans.

Series that will be ending with either their next or next two issues being released in March and April are Strikeforce Falcon by Richard C. White, Shadows Over America by Aaron Smith, Vengeance: The Cutter Series by James Hopwood, From the Pen of Adam L. Garcia, From the Pen of Greg Norgaard, From the Pen of J. Walt Layne, The Gatekeeper Chronicles by Terrence McCauley, and The Dark Gentleman by Barry Reese.

Friends of Fortune by Derrick Ferguson will not continue as a series. However, Ferguson will continue to produce Friends of Fortune stories as stand alone Single Shot releases in the future, released as they are completed by the author and edited.

Corpus Vile: Death In The City by Jim Beard will continue in some format with Pro Se in the future, either as a re-added series to the revamped Signature Series line or as a novel.

Bobby Nash’s From the Pen of series ended with the most recent story published, with Nash having plans for the characters from those stories in the future. Likewise, Percival Constantine’s Luther Cross series ended with the recent release of the latest episode, but Constantine plans to continue the adventures of Cross in 2017 via self publishing.

Series that will be coming out from Pro Se as novels and/or story collections are Brad Mengel’s Australis Incognito, Van Allen Plexico’s Alpha/Omega, Terry Alexander’s Empress Debbie and The Caves of Destruction, David White’s Magee, Nikki Nelson Hicks’ Jake Istenhyegi, the Accidental Detective, Teel James Glenn’s The Adventures of Dr. Shadows, H. David Blalock’s The Velvet Wasp, PJ Lozito’s The Revenant Detective, Frank Schildiner’s Johnny Rich, Gary Phillips’ as of yet to be released Nefra Adams, E. W. Farnsworth’s yet to be released The Secret Adventures of Agents Salamander and Crow, Sean Taylors yet to be released Spy Candy, and Ralph Angelo Jr.'s yet to be released Tales of Torahg.

Some of the series that are to become books will have Single Shots released in the next two weeks under the Signature series line, as they are already prepared. These will serve as previews to the future volumes.

Any of the books announced that are in the possession of Pro Se Productions in first draft form by August 2017 will be released before year’s end.

Regardless of continuing as a series, as a book, or simply as Single Shots, the cover art originally designed for each title will be utilized.

“I can’t thank everyone involved enough,” says Hancock, “for the work done on this ambitious project. The Pro Se Single Shot Signature Series idea is not dead, just simply being rebooted in a way to make sure that when it can handle over forty authors again, it will be done right without fail.”

For more information on Pro Se Productions, go to www.prose-press.com and like Pro Se on Facebook.

THE RUBY FILES RE-OPENS IN 2017! VOL. 2 ANNOUNCED!

Step into the seedy underbelly with New Pulp's #1 P.I., Rick Ruby in the award-winning The Ruby Files Vol. 1 from Airship 27 Productions in paperback and ebook. Volume 2 is coming soon!

Vol. 1 Cover Art:
Mark Wheatley
Gangsters and Gun Molls! It was the 1930's and America was locked in the grip of the Great Depression. Gangsters controlled the major cities while outlaws roamed the rural back country. It was a time of Speak Easy gin-joints, Tommy-guns, fast cars and even faster dames. This is the world of New York based Private Investigator Rick Ruby, a world he is all too familiar with. From the back alleys of Gotham to the gold laden boulevards of Hollywood, Ruby is the shamus with a nose for trouble and an insatiable appetite for justice. So if you’ve got a taste for hot lead and knuckle sandwiches, tug your cuffs, adjust your fedora and light up a Lucky, a brand new pulp detective is coming your way. Created by pulp masters, Bobby Nash & Sean Taylor, Rick Ruby echoes the tales of Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe while offering up his own brand of two-fisted action. Joined by fellow pulp smiths Andrew Salmon & William Patrick Maynard, these modern scribes of purple prose present a quartet of tales to delight any true lover of private eye fiction.

The Ruby Files Vol. 2 is coming soon! Series creators Sean Taylor and Bobby Nash return with new stories and are joined by author Ron Fortier and Alan J. Porter. Interior illustrations provided by Nik Poliwko. Cover by Mark Wheatley.

Here's a sneak peek at vol. 2. Click on the images or open in new page for a larger view.

DEAL ALERT-- DEMONSLAYER: VENGEANCE #1 (BOBBY'S 1ST PROFESSIONAL COMIC BOOK WORK)

Cover Art: Andy Park
I ran across someone selling a copy of Demonslayer: Vengeance #1 on Amazon today for cover price ($3.99) or make them an offer. This was my first professional comic book story and isn't all that easy to find these days. If you're interested, head on over to www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XD2MT12 and check it out. It looks like the seller (who is not me, by the way) has only 1 copy on hand.

I do have a couple of copies of this issue and other Demonslayer comics that I ran across recently and will have them at SC Comicon next weekend.

WE LOVE READER REVIEWS! SNOW STORM GETS A 5 STAR REVIEW!

We love reader reviews! A BIG THANK YOU to Logan Proudfoot for the nice 5 STAR review of Snow Storm on Amazon. Read the full review here

Two Fisted Prose: Art for The Damned!
This is the 2nd book in Nash's Abraham Snow ouvre and it doesn't fail to deliver. The characters are lush, vibrant and real, the pacing pitch perfect and the action breathless.

Author Bobby Nash excells where so many other writers fail, he immerses himself in the waters of pulp fiction like a hard boiled sinner and emerges as a baptized revivalist, a gifted, insightful artist with a sardonic voice more befitting the classics than crime fiction.

Seldomnly does a writer transcend genre fiction with this sort of artistic abandon, this sort of zeal. Two fisted prose of this Ilk belongs alongside the works of Hemingway, Chekov, Kerouac and Nabikov.

WOW. Thanks again, Logan. Reviews are always appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to write and I'm glad you enjoyed Snow Storm.

PROOFIN' GALLEYS...

Two computers comes in handy when it's time to proof galleys. Oddly enough, I had two galleys come in today that needed to be proofed. That means two new books featuring my work are coming soon. That's always great to hear.

Galleys generally have a quick turnaround so whenever you get them in, you have to basically drop everything and check them to make sure there are no errors. This is the last pass the writer gets before heading back to production.
More details when I can share them.

A FULL AND BUSY DAY...

Goodnight from the
desk of endless tasks.
Today has been a full, busy day... and I love it. I added some new words to The Wraith: Sanderson of Metro novel, did final edits on a new book that will be out within a week or so, got to see the cover for said book, wrote blurbs, cover copy, worked on Patreon things, participated in one of my publisher's chats, and more. Like I said, a good, full day at the ol' writing desk. Now, I'm beat so I think it's time to call it a night. Will dive back into it again in the morning.

Sweet dreams.

OPENING LINES!

Cover: Dennis Calero
I was asked an interesting question today.
What's your favorite opening line from your own work?

I thought about that and picked a recent one I really liked.

Abraham Snow knew he was about to die--
--and the thought of it pissed him off to no end.

That's the opening line from SNOW FALLS.

Opening lines are very important in a story. That first line will either hook your reader or not. If not, they may not read any farther. If it does grab them, then hopefully they will keep reading.

What are some of your favorite opening lines?

BIBLIORATI TAKES A LOOK BACK AT BOBBY NASH'S FANTASTIX!

Original novel cover.
Bibliorati's Ron Fortier jumps in the way back machine for a look at my second published novel, FANTASTIX. I really loved this novel and have fond memories of the super-powered characters involved. I also wrote a graphic novel version of this tale that was illustrated by the great Daniele Serra. Sadly, both the comic and novel have been out of print for years, at least a decade for the novel, a little less for the comic. Here's hoping maybe one day the property owner will get them re-released. You can read the full review here.

This is only Nash's second book and it is wonderfully executed. He has matured considerably as a writer since that first offering and the control with which he spins this yarn is both deft and entertaining. I really enjoyed reading this book and came to love these characters. If superheroes are your cup of tea, do not pass up FANTASTIX. It has a lot to say.

The odd thing about the timing of this is that this is the free ebook giveaway to Patrons of my Patreon page who pledge $5 and above are receiving in April. Fantastix is a true rarity in my body of work. Only a small few saw this novel before it was pulled from sales channels. Want the chance to read this novel, the only way to get it is to pledge $5 or more a month to my Patreon page. You'll also be entered into monthly giveaways, a free ebook each month, some nifty behind the scenes information, and Patron exclusive sneak peeks of works in process. You should join us. You can sign up for Patreon here.

SUPER-SIZED SOMETIMES I GET ASKED STUFF… PART 39

After a short hiatus, we are back for a 39th installment of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff… I know I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating-- thank you for the continued questions. I love answering them. Please, keep ‘em coming.

You can check out all of the past installments of Sometimes I Get Asked Stuff... here.

You tell 'em, Calvin!
This first two questions are a good indicator of just how behind I am.

Q: What is your New Year’s writing resolution for 2017?

I'm not really a resolutions guy. I plan, sure, but I do that throughout the year, not just at the beginning of the year. Planning requires the occasional restructuring or course correcting as things like real life or publishing issues get in the way. Believe me, they both happen. 2016 was a year where these type of hiccups happened to me a lot.

You tell 'em, Jean Luc!
If I had to make a New Year's Writing Resolution, I guess it would be to improve time management so I can write more. My 2017 schedule is pretty full, which is great, but if I could improve my writing time that would be beneficial to moving my writing career forward and maybe gets me one step closer to my writing/publishing goals.

Q: It's a NEW YEAR! What would you like to see happen for you as an author in 2017?

Hopefully, I will get one step closer to having "New York Times
Yep. Writing is exactly like this. :)
Bestselling Author" in front of my name. It's a goal.

Q: What motivates you more as a writer? Making sales? Getting great reviews? Getting fan mail? The constant challenge to write something better or extremely unique?

As I'm writing, it's the challenge to tell the best story that I can tell. Once it's out, there is the sales and reviews aspect that I think about while promoting the work. I don't think about the sales as much while writing though.
