“SAY GOODNIGHT, GOLDILOCKS!”

I'm working on Domino Lady novel today.
Here's a taste:

All he needed was one glimpse of the target’s beautiful face and he would be a very wealthy man. He held his breath and waited. Then it happened. He caught a hint of golden blonde hair and a flutter of movement next to the window. That’s when he knew she made a fatal misstep. He knew where she was hiding.

“Say goodnight, goldilocks,” the shooter whispered before pulling the trigger.

FYI: This is a sample from the first draft. It is quite possible it will change before all is said and done.

ANOTHER GREAT DAY AT THE KEYBOARD!

Saw this on Facebook today and liked it. This should be a poster.

Domino Lady
Not a bad day of writing, if I do say so myself. I did not reach quite as many words as I had hoped to do today, but it was still a productive day nonetheless. I'm entering the last leg of the Domino Lady novel now so things are kicking into high gear. I wrote an assassination today and a lot of gunfire. I actually scrapped a large chunk of the story today. It's always tough to lose large sections of text, but it wasn't working so I had to rework a scene and I think the story is better for it as a whole. Tomorrow, I see how Domino Lady gets herself out of this particular jam.

But right now I am exhausted after a long day. I'm going on 19 hours so far today after being woken early so I think it's time to call it a night.

Sweet dreams.

Next on Earth Station One...

Next week, Earth Station One takes a look at Surprising Sequels: Movie Sequels That Surprised Us. Has there ever been a sequel that surprised you by being as good as or better than the original like Spider-Man 2 or Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back? Perhaps just different enough to surprise you like The Dark Knight or Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan? Or any movies that surprised you by heading off into strange directions like Highlander 2 or Pirates of the Caribbean? And yes, even those sequels that didn’t quite work like Ghostbusters 2 or Star Wars Episode One? Plus, movies that we always thought should have had a sequel, but didn’t. These are the movies we’ll be discussing on ESO episode 140.

Then, ESO sits down with Doctor Who/Star Trek: The Next Generation writer Scott Tipton, who also takes a turn in The Geek Seat. And, as if that wasn’t enough, we take a look at the latest episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead as it heads into the fall finale. All that plus the usual rants, raves, shout outs, and the ever-popular Khan Report! It’s going to be another action-packed episode of Earth Station One you won’t want to miss.

ESO wants to hear from you. What movie sequels surprised you? What did you think of the latest episode of The Walking Dead? Have you visited a convention or planning one? We’d love to hear from you at www.esopodcast.com, email us at esopodcast@gmail.com, or call 404-963-9057. We might just read yours on the show. Follow ESO on Facebook and Twitter.

HEARING THE NIGHTBEAT

My copy of the new Nightbeat: Night Stories audio book from Radio Archives arrived today and I just had to dig into it. I listened to my story because I was really curious how it would sound. It’s a weird sensation hearing my words read aloud, especially by someone other than myself. I have to tip my hat to actor Michael C. Gwynne, who read the stories in this volume. He did a great job.

I’m excited to listen to the rest of the stories now.

Below is the Nightbeat: Night Stories press release for those who might have missed it the first time around.

Bobby

THE HEARTS HAVE IT!

There is much truth in this.

I’ve moved a step forward in my 2013 writing schedule and it’s shaping up to be a busy year. So far, I have scheduled to write (or finish in some cases) several novels in the New Year. Novels already started and on tap to be finished are Evil Intent, Lance Star: Sky Ranger “Cold Snap!,” and Blood Shot.

You’d think that’s enough, right?

Not even close.

I’ve already started prepping Deadly Hearts!, the tentatively titled (so it’s possible it might change) follow up to Deadly Games!. I like the title because it allows me to keep the “Deadly” part of the title and also keep a game-related motif in the title. I made up a mock cover placeholder for the website, which I’m also posting here. This is not the final cover. I have an idea for the cover designed and mapped out. I think it’s going to look great. I love designing covers. It is a fun challenge. I’ve already come up with a title and cover design for a third book featuring John Bartlett and Benjamin West after Deadly Hearts!.

I’ve also had an idea for a follow up to Earthstrike Agenda, which was a surprise even to me. We’ll see what happens, but it’s possible we might just see Virginia Harmon in action again.

I have a few other project planned for 2013, but it’s a little too early to start talking about those, especially considering how easy it is for those plans to change.

Keep watching bobbynash.com and BEN Books for more details as they’re available.

Happy Cyber-Monday!

CYBER MONDAY!

It's Cyber-Monday! I've got my Cyber-Monday tree all decorated and ready to celebrate.

Wait, that's not right.

Cyber Monday is a day set aside for after-Thanksgiving buys on-line. While you're surfing and shopping, I'd appreciate it if you took a look at some of my books as possible presents for a friend, loved one, or even yourself. Check the tabs above (novels, anthologies/short stories, ebooks, Amazon, Zazzle, podcast) for information and links to my work. I'd apprciate it.

Thanks and Happy Cyber Monday!

Bobby

PODCASTERS, WRITERS, AND ACTORS... OH MY!

Yep. This is my muse to a T.

Virginia Hey on Farscape
I had a great time sharing our gift ideas for Earth Station One’s Geek Gift Guide episode. Then, the ESO crew conducted a wonderful interview with Virginia Hey of Farscape, Road Warrior, and James Bond fame for this week's episode, which should go live on Wednesday or Thursday.

It's been a long, but productive day of podcasting, writing, posting, and updating websites. I did take a break to watch some TV tonight as well. Both Once Upon A Time and The Walking Dead turned in really tight episodes this week. Both are highly recommended. We'll review this week's The Walking Dead on ESO as well.

Also, don't forget that tomorrow is Cyber Monday. I'd really appreciate it if you tried one of my novels or anthologies.

Well, I'm beat so I'm calling it a night. Let’s do this again tomorrow, what d’ya say?

WHEN CREATIVITY ATTACKS!

This about sums it up. Sorry, I don't know the artist's name.

How can I say no?
I woke up this morning with a story idea for a new character. Not a bad way to start the day. let me tell you. This one's going in the "ideas to follow up on" file.

The wacky gift-giving season is upon us and the Earth Station One podcast is getting in on the celebration. Today we're recording our 3rd annual Geek Gift Guide, which is always a lot of fun. The episode will go live later this week. I'll let you know when.

After that, it's back to writing. I've got a date with the Domino Lady.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Bobby

OH, THOSE PESKY WRITER PROBLEMS...

I see this every time I look at my computer. It's tasks me.

Sometimes it ain’t easy being a writer, let me tell ya.

So I get an idea for a new book today. Always great when that happens, but I had to put the brakes on it because there are several priority projects ahead of it. I guess, as problems go, this isn’t a bad one to have.

The urge to start writing on this new idea is strong, but there are deadlines to meet on other projects so I had to clamp down that enthusiasm and put on the brakes. That's okay though. Like a nice meal, I'll let the idea simmer in the back of my mind for a bit.

Today was another busy one. Did a little more errand running with my Mom while my Dad is under the weather. Bought some groceries and assorted odds ‘n ends. Spent some time working on and posting at www.bobbynash.com, http://BEN-Books.blogspot.com, http://allpulp.blogspot.com, www.esopodcast.com, and assorted social media.

I also spent some time doing my homework for the next episode of the Earth Station One podcast, which is our Annual Holiday Geek Gift Guide. We’re recording on Sunday this week as one of our guests is from Europe so we’re rescheduling to accommodate the time difference. Plus, we’re interviewing Farscape’s Virginia Hey as well so it should be a fun day.

Oh, yeah, and somewhere in all of that I managed to get a little writing done too. Added a bit to the Domino Lady novel, which is getting closer and closer to the end. I can see the finish line in the distance. I expect to put this one to bed sometime in the next week or so.

Somewhere in there I popped in a DVD, since there was nothing on TV tonight, and watched a couple episodes of Buck Rogers. Still a fun show. But, it’s a little past 3 a.m. as I write this so it might just be time to call it a night. Think I’ll watch tonight’s episode of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea that I DVR’d off MeTV then call it a night.

Until tomorrow.

Bobby

A BIT TOO OLD FOR COMICS? REVIEWS EVIL WAYS

Reader Robert McIntyre posted a fantastic review of my novel, Evil Ways over at his A Bit Too Old For Comics? Blog. You can read the full review here.

From the review:
“The whole story moves on at a cracking pace and no part of the plot is wasted no matter how trivial it may seems at the time of reading it, the whole book is littered with small clues throughout that take you on the same ride as the characters to the final conclusion of the book and what a conclusion it was.”

“I was hooked on the book from the first paragraph, and read the book in the space of a week which for me is a quick read; it’s also an indication for me on how good I think a book is if I read it that quickly.”

You can read the full review at http://toooldforcomics.blogspot.com/2012/11/evil-ways-by-bobby-nash.html.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Robert. I'm glad you enjoyed Evil Ways. This novel holds a special place in my heart, being the first published. I'm so excited to have it back out there. A new Harold Palmer thriller called Evil Intent is scheduled for 2013 (now I just need to finish writing the darn thing).

Sheriff Tom Myers was an unexpected surprise. As I got to know the character his part in Evil Ways continued to grow. The same things happened in Deadly Games! He was originally only going to be mentioned there, but the character kept telling me that he would be involved in the events of that novel. Of course, you should always listen to your characters. I did and I think the story is better for it.

I have a loose plot for a stand-alone novel featuring Sheriff Myers that I hope to write in 2013 (once I clean off my current slate of works in process). The character has become one of my favorites. Oh. I should also mention that Sheriff Myers makes a brief cameo appearance in Evil Intent as well.

Thanks again for the review. It is appreciated.

I ♥ LATE NIGHT WRITING!

Art: Uwe Jarling
I should write at night more often. I seem to be more productive working into the wee hours of the morning. Probably because there are fewer distractions, I’d guess. I added a couple thousand words to the Domino Lady novel tonight and had a nice showdown between two characters. Hint: one of them didn’t survive it.

All in all it was a pretty good night of writing, but it's going on 5 a.m. and I’m tired so I think it’s time to call it a night (or morning).

Until tomorrow (or later today if you prefer).

Bobby

PS: I was saddened to hear of the passing of actor Larry Hagman today. He was a TV icon. I got to see him briefly, although didn't get to actually meet him, at Dragon Con a year or two back when the I Dream of Jeannie cast was there.

BLACK FRIDAY BLUES!

Despite my best-laid plans I broke with tradition and accompanied my Mom on a Black Friday shopping trip today since my Dad is sick and couldn’t join her. Thankfully, we didn’t have to fight too many crowds though. We went after 2 p.m. so it was all good. She found everything she wanted to buy too and didn't have to leave house before the crack of dawn.

Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday, which is an initiative where people are encouraged to visit local or small businesses. As I, as a writer/publisher am considered a small business, I rather like this idea. Heh. Of course, I think that books (paperback or ebook) make a great gift. There are a lot of talented writers out there with some great books that I'm sure you'll enjoy. Not one to pass up a chance for some shameless self promotion, let me also say that there are some links on this very site to some books I hope you'll enjoy. I know. Ain't I a stinker?

And then there's Cyber-Monday. I'm sure I'll promote that one too. :)

Now it’s time to settle in and get some writing done.

Have a great weekend.

Bobby

NO TURKEY COMA FOR ME THIS YEAR.

I actually ate two sensible meals today, careful not to overdo it. I’ve worked hard to lose some weight and didn’t want to undo that work. It wasn’t easy though, let me tell you.

Anyway, since there wasn’t much on TV tonight (although I did get sucked into a couple episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation on BBC America, which reminded me of the image above) I did some writing and made a nice dent in the novel in progress.

Calling it a night now, but back at it tomorrow.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
